I prefer direct. I wear my emotions on my sleeves as far as body language is concerned. I actually try to pay attention to reactions on a sub-conscious level now. I am a former professional poker player, I play semi-professionally now (basically part time, maybe 5-10 hrs/wk). Honestly, it's just a numbers game. The vast majority of women will either not be interested or taken. What I always tell people is expect to fail more often than you succeed. Unless you're Channing Tatum, and then everything doesn't matter. I hear you on losing interest really quickly. The biggest issue with talking fast, is especially if you're not a pro, you will say some shit you can't dig yourself out of. It's always best to pace yourself and just relax. Slow = confident.

Even if you're not fit, putting time and effort into your outward appearance makes you infinitely more attractive. Shit I've seen 300 lb dudes that look very nice before and I've seen 205 lb ripped dudes who look homeless.

Ehh, it really depends again on your delivery. If you see someone all bundled up on a chilly day, you can walk next to them and say something like "Isn't this weather terrible? It's so cold!" and then escalate it to commenting about her jacket or her scarf, or maybe there's an event going on or a holiday coming up or whatever. Observe and react. Look at the weather, is it nice? Look at all the students, such a busy time of year. Look at all the beautiful scenery, fall is such a gorgeous time of year. Look at something, respond to what you're looking at.

It all depends on how you say "Hi". Are you saying "Hi" with a force smile, a light wave and no change of direction. Or are you engaging them with your body eye contact and a prolonged "Hey" with something interesting to follow? One obviously works a lot better than the other.

Just say "Hi". It's literally that simple. If you're working off some elaborate script, that's called not being yourself, not being real, and women will sense that in an instant.
