As someone who also went through a very 'butch' phase as a survival mechanism after being raped and abused, I want to reassure you that this is more common than you may think. I was able to slowly get back out of my shell, but it started with therapy and working on that innermost self I was trying to protect behind my masculine persona. I hope it doesn't appear rude to suggest you might benefit from therapy as well, as it did wonders for me. I am able to be all aspects of myself now, without fee…

Ask him if it's something he would continue doing in a relationship.

Excellent reply. To add to this, OP, I chose the wrong person. I got pregnant to an abusive man. I managed to escape the situation, but it took years, and my family are still helping me pay legal fees for family court. However, it wasn't the most important decision of my life. Having my daughter was. She is incredible and I have loved motherhood. However, single parenting is extremely hard and isolating. I believe in love, and I am humbled and grateful that I have since found a man I love and tr…

Same here with both of those! To add to that for me, I can be a flakey friend and I can allow my fluctuations of emotion to overshadow my interactions with loved ones. I am trying out scheduling catch up dates with friends well in advance so I don't forget, and I am trying to remain mindful about how much negativity I am holding onto, and let it go rather than inadvertantly dump it on the next person in my day. I also have a therapist. I bookmark many of these situations to bring to her instead …

As much as I disagree with your actions, you do you. My advice is to move out and hire a pet sitter. I am concerned about how your ex will react to this new information, given that he's cut a business trip short, wants to talk to you and keep the relationship, and was your age before you were born. He might be wonderful, but this is a perfect pressure cooker for a situation where you could be in real danger when he returns. I'm just playing statistics here. I would move out and get the pets care…

I find this post refreshing, and I agree with your assessment of the content he is consuming. I don't have much input except to suggest an honest, engaged, non-combative (on both sides) discussion with your boyfriend about the content. Discuss yoir hesitations like you have here, and your points, let him discuss his. Talk about it! If nothing else you will learn whether or not you can both improve your communication skills with each other, at best you can reach a deeper level of ubderstanding an…

Agreed. OP, feel free to change underwear styles and experiment with them within your comfort zone, but if you feel pressured you will end up resenting him. Have a conversation with him about styles and colour types he likes, see if you can find a middle ground. However, if he is that into lingerie, he can feel free to buy it for you. It isn't cheap. Also, perhaps a compromise can be reached where he decreases porn use.

I changed a lot to suit my ex is a past relationship. Nails, dyed my hair blonde, wore more revealing clothes than I was comfortable with,, and he was always dropping hints about the possibility of a boob job. I felt like I sold out a bit, to be honest. I didn't feel like myself. We broke up for other reasons. It's all about how it feels for you I suppose. My current partner has a more similar style to myself. I enjoy feeling like I can dress up for him, I don't feel objectified. I notice what t…

It seems like you are more interested in motherhood than finding someone that loves you and that you love. Which is okay, it's okay to have different priorities. However, you are trying to play a game with these men. It is manipulative. It is not authentic communication! I suggest you freeze your eggs so that you can stop panicking about missing out on motherhood. Then you can take a more relaxed and natural approach to finding someone you can fall in love with.

So, my mum wasn't a cool girl, and I don't know what a pick me is enough to use it. However, mum was raised to have a career, and her mother had a career and wasn't particularly interested in parenting, and deeply resented housekeeping. My mum got some of that anger too, even though her life desire was to be a stay at home mother. Luckily she was able to do that with us kids, but through her own mother's example, she is verbally and emotionally and mentally abusive towards my dad. Just like gran…

Maybe checkout r/pornfree They are a suppirt group for those actively fighting against their own porn addixtions, but seem kind and genuinely helpful towards partners seeking help and resources. I learnt there that there is a huge link between the excessive use of porn and erectile dysfunction. This might ease your mind that he has caused himself physiological and psychological damage, and that YOU are by no means the reason why he can't finish with you.

You are single, you aren't a single parent, you have life laid out in front of you! Pkease find something that gives you joy, any passion or inspiration... find work doing what you love, get yourself educated, have a good thorough think about where you want to be in five years, and work towards it. Your ex isn't it. Find some worth!

I don't think OP grasps the reality of what 'more sexual harassment' can entail

To answer the question, I think he was a predator. Apparently a serial predator. It seems he is grooming minors for peadophilic intentions. In my mind this makes him reprehensible, and I don't think anyone should care what is making him tick or trying to explain or justify his actions. I hope you continue to heal from this OP, I'm glad you understand that you are not at fault here.

OP is implying that there was a sexual relationship going on between them, and that she was groomed and gaslit by the teacher. That is what she has PTSD about.

Is there a wqy you could respectfully reach out to his friends or family members? Having his peers around might help him accept whqt is happening, and show him that he is accepted and valued by men around him

Agreed. For example, I (31F) have been dating a man (35M) for what, 2 or 3 months now? We met on the internet and we both have kids, so we are taking it suuuper slow. We meet once or twice a week, We've met each other's kids twice, and I am about to meet his friends for the second time. We go out for meals or activities, and we have only pecked each other on the lips as a goodbye. We know that we still know nothing about eachother, and there is enough nuance that there hasn't needed to be an off…

Keep the points about going to the gym, reading the book, learning etiquette, and getting a job. This is more that enough at one time. Hopefully being successful with these points will lead to some of the others... such as losing weight, finding friends and hobbies, being able to buy clothes that work well for you and getting confident with makeup. I would strike off all the points that require spending a lot of money up-front. Don't become fooled by industries that say you can buy a new persona…

Western society has come in leaps and bounds when it comes to accepting the diversity of appearance and not judging a book by it's cover. This applies to people or all races and sizes and shapes. In the nineties, jokes about fat/gay/'retarded'people were the norm. THE NORM! I'm glad this has changed. When it comes to facial beauty and physical attraction though... yeah you can't change people's brain chemistry in my opinion. People can treat everyone around them with kindness and respect, as the…

If it makes you feel better, you could be 31 and a single mother like me... lol! Honestly though, work on your life so that you don't need anyone, just want someone. I sincerely hope you find who you are looking for!

So, he said he would have preferred if you were a virgin when you met him, but he is happy with you? And you have slept with one person before him? As my mother would say, this is a 'chicken feed problem' AKA absolutely nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things. Work on your self esteem, and don't blame the relationship for your insecurities. Everything is going to be fine! hugs

Please research BPD. There are also reddit support groups for people with BPD loved ones and people with BPD parents. It is a serious mental health condition that primarily effects interpersonal relationships. I have experienced loving someone with this condition before, and I am mot exaggerating when I say it was traumatic. I qm seeing many red flags here, and I feel like once you leave, you may need some grounding time or some gentle counselling to become secure within yourself. I know how it …
