Hmm. Wouldn't that set a legal precedent against bodily autonomy? How could we protest circumcision, then?

But only MRAs are fighting for that flap of skin that can become a vagina, Janet. Feminists prefer transwomen use intestine, despite the obvious risks. ? Can you catch me up on this?

If you look into the mensrights movement, you can find people who pretty much directly advocate rape, people who are fine with spousal abuse, stuff like that, which is way more extreme than what some 'evil feminists' say. The Red Pill =/= Mens Rights.

Does it bother anybody else when people labels themselves with things like socially-liberal atheist humanist? Why don't you just say you are a liberal? Isn't that enough on the issue? Because if you ask 10 people on the street what "liberal" means you're bound to get 11 different answers. Politispeak is muddled as fuck. Your religious views don't matter in this aspect. Agreed. I think the label humanist is just a person's way of saying they aren't a bad person, which is often followed by asshole…

Every single one of us who regularly participates here has looked around enough to know that "deeply held misogyny" is fair descriptor for a lot of the "individuals" in the "manosphere." Well sure, but that's absolutely not universal. And you'll never see someone say the word "manosphere" & a positive adjective in the same sentence. Cognitive biases everywhere.

As far as this subreddit's opinion, there's always someone who pops out of the woodwork to defend the practise on some level. Always ends up with negative karma, but makes me wonder what's wrong with the world nonetheless. Not just here, almost everywhere. It's like some twisted, communal form of Stockholm Syndrome.

Yes, but only if the entries are backed up by more than hearsay. That is, there is proof she was lying and not just a lack of proof for her claim. We don't want to create a fear of false false rape accuser accusations. Too meta for me, and that would make us hypocrites.

Politically speaking, the 'right' and 'left' parties are so vaguely defined as to be meaningless. The bundling of political ideas into a strict binary is one of the stupidest choices ever made.

Are you really asking me to prove that countries with weak central governments that inevitably fall into civil war do worse than countries that have central governments strong enough to prevent this? 'Worse' along what axis? Also, that's a straw man. I'm arguing that once a society adopts certain ideals (like, for example, the Somalian custom of 'xeer'), then it would be greatly improved by the removal of the state. Or that the united states is more productive and advanced than if it was just 50…

Adam Smith That's an appeal to authority. I don't give a shit who said it, all I care about is the argument. Your make-believe Libertardian world would burn down to the ground after the first financial catastrophe, natural disaster, or war. Firstly, do you think that being mean to people you disagree with is going to make them amiable to your position? Secondly, [citation needed].
/r/MensRights07/10/14 02:37 AM
1

You seem to be infected with the Libertardian notion that central government does nothing useful. Did I claim that? No. Just because I think that central government is inefficient and easily-corruptible doesn't mean I think it has never done anything good, ever. As for your view on Somalia? From The Journal of Comparative Economics 35 (2007), pages 692-695 In 1960 British Somaliland and Italian Somalia gained independence from their colonizers and joined together to form the Republic of Somalia.…
/r/MensRights07/10/14 02:37 AM

Your point is? All I hear you complaining about is how awful Somalia is, but not the conclusion I should draw based on the conditions in Somalia. Lemme guess, it's your knockdown argument for why anarchy will never work?

2

The United Nations would happen to disagree with you on that as of August 20th, 2012... But either way, that's just evidence. So far you've made both claims and shown evidence, but you haven't actually given me a legible argument to address. What claim are you trying to support by talking about Somalia?

No, but I know many magnate school's can't. What do you think it is about the 'magnate schools' which makes them inferior to public schooling? Do you have any studies to back you up? I can always tell who was home schooled once they hit a college level course. Do you just assume or do you check?

/r/MensRights06/10/14 02:10 PM

Not exactly in principle, but for example, the massive spike in education spending for little reward (that is, raise in testing proficiency compared to other countries) in America has convinced me the last thing we need is more government spending in education. That's not even considering the ethics of how these government projects are funded.

Don't move the fucking goalposts. You wanted me to prove that 50% of the healthcare in the US was paid through taxes. I did. As for the high price of US healthcare? The hospitals are run privately... still run by selfish suits looking to extort the desperate. You're just wrong. As the wiki page for US healthcare says directly, in the first paragraph: 62% of the hospitals are non-profit, 20% are government owned, 18% are for-profit. Have you ever heard of Medicaid? How about Medicare? Or the Affordable Care Act (AKA 'Obamacare')? Fuck, just take a look at the wikipedia page for US Healthcare: 60–65% of healthcare provision and spending comes from programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, the Children's Health Insurance Program, and the Veterans Health Administration. These are all public programs.

Where does the money to pay these groups come from? The citizens who pay the taxes. Why does the money have to be stolen by the government and then routed into monopolistic public services? Why not privatize these services and allow the people to directly pay the service providers they want service from?

Like paying taxes so we can -- you know -- do stuff that requires more than 3 people at a time? I hope you're being facetious. Ah yes, I read that Paglia article. And I would have to say, Salon, that 'evil' is a more useful lens than 'rape culture'. You seem to be under the impression that if you can just write the perfect laws, create the perfect culture, than you can eliminate violence. But you really can't change human nature (by which I mean the tendency of abuse to repeat itself and the rare mental disturbances known as psychopathy and sociopathy) just by rewriting the social order amongst adults.

This message is flawed and unfortunate, as well. Telling men that they should care about gender inequality because of how much it hurts them, centralizes men and their well-being in a movement built by women for our survival in a world that degrades and dehumanizes us daily. This is problematic for the same reason telling white people that they should end racism because racism “holds us all back as a society, so eradicating it will help you, too,” is problematic. The article won't load for me, but what evidence is there to assume that he was mentally ill. Killing someone doesn't make you mentally ill or mean you were ill before. That seems to be the new cop out for crimes... "I'm mental disturbeded". I hate hearing that. If you can suppress or lack empathy to the point that you will blithely kill people, that is absolutely mentally disturbed (born or aquired) in comparison to the rest of humanity. That doesn't mean it has to be a cop-out from consequence…

The kid was a fucking sociopath We don't know what mental disturbance caused him to commit these heinous crimes and take his own life, aside from the fact that he was clearly ill. If he was still a kid when it happened, it sounds like there might have been a slim chance at rehabilitation. But I'm no expert.

Hm. When I first read it I was upset because I thought she was showing skewed priorities, using evidence of people dying to complain about a wage gap- but looking back now after reading your perspective it seems a little more ambiguous. I shouldn't have knee-jerk posted it here, at least not without asking OP if I was reading too much into her (his?) statement.
/r/MensRights14/09/14 05:09 PM

I believe research has shown that women and men have brains that work differently in terms of information processing- but not on a large enough scale to be the bottom line on gender roles. It is largely cultural too.

Honestly, TwoXchromosomes can be toxic, but it's more full of unquestioned double standards than literal, explicit hate speech. They're not just soft on feminism- they'll let anything slide until it hits the media and makes a stink.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 08:00 AM

Unfortunately it is a label- I've met feminists who believe that 'egalitarian' is just shorthand for 'mra in disguise'. Every word has connotations. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it's bad.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 05:14 AM
4

Indeed. When people ask me whether I'm a feminist/MRA, I just tell them I believe in equal rights for people of both (all?) genders. It usually works better than a 'yes' or a 'no' because obviously everyone has a different notion of what it means to be a feminist or MRA.

If you're not going to bother doing persuasion properly then you might as well give up then and there... If you're exhausted, don't play the game. I'd rather present no argument then present a half-assed one, because neither are going to change anyone's mind and one is far easier than the other.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 04:41 AM

I try to cover those responses before hand (an inb4 kind of thing). Covering responses which haven't been made is strawmanning. I'm always open to be shown how I am wrong... I can't help feel as though the debate has already been lost by the other side, and we're just waiting for the law to catch up to whats right. Declaring yourself to be in the objective moral right is not something an open minded person would do.
/r/MensRights07/09/14 04:32 AM

Feminism is about gender equality! That's why whenever someone mentions an inequality which disadvantages men, I can just write it off because they're just an MRA! On a more serious note, it seems like everyone is talking past each other, not listening. It's also super annoying how people can waffle between using the word 'Feminism/MRA' to either mean a movement, or to talk about the ideology of the movement. Maximum equivocation potential.

Calling it a "good" without further contextualization is part of the problem. There are many things that might be "good" or "should" happen if taken out of context. Part of the context in this case is that young males were forced into military service and as a kind of consolation received the vote, whereas women demanded the same rewards/privileges (the vote) without the same risks/responsibilities (the draft). Well, really, it was an exchange of taxation and representation, wasn't it? Not repre…

Complaining about an enemy (whether they deserve it or not) is always easier than trying to fix a problem with inertia that would continue without the enemy. Plus it's more fun!

The problem is that criticizing the 1st wave is seen as a criticism of the good that they accomplished (right to vote, etc.).

I just upvoted. You were asking a question, and there is no shame in ignorance or curiosity :)

I've never heard anyone say that before, but that's fucked up.

This is gonna sound trite... but not all women are like that. Most of the ones I've met certainly aren't, but that's just my anecdote.

I read about the history of feminism going all the way back to the white feather campaign and realized that everything good I'd been told about feminism was a lie. According to records from day one feminists were out for personal gain with no regard for equality or fairness. Let's be fair here, in that age women were disadvantaged. I'd say that even from the beginning feminism was poisoned by spite, but there were still feminists back then who were trying to advocate for true equality.

Dead people cannot feel any more pleasure and happiness either. Death is a cessation of everything. And nice job moving the goal posts. First 'rape is worse than death', but you couldn't defend that, so you switched tack to 'people who have been tortured for weeks, months, or years is worse than death'. The fact that you think being content with living is an artifact of the developed world is also pants-on-head retarded. By your logic, every developing nation or person under the poverty line sho…

:>tfw I'm subscribed to /r/feminism Sorry for trying to point out a 'No True Scotsman' when I see one. Without a good definition for 'serious feminist', that's what it sounds like.

No, that's just giving examples of 'serious feminists'. And for that matter, what is a 'fake feminist'?

I'd like to think any alien(s) advanced enough to travel to us would either give no shits about what we have to say because they didn't care about us at all, or would be interested in the words of more than one person because they did care about us, as a whole. I'd also like to think any advanced aliens would understand the idea of fact-checking, but we're not exactly a good example of rationality in a civilized species, are we? Either way, it's unlikely to happen in our lifetimes. Better to wor…

I'm quite intrigued by this site but skeptical that it will be any more objective than Wikipedia. Exclusivity, of any kind, breeds bias and close-mindedness. I'll check this site out anyway though.
