Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.Your suggestion begins with the premise of inequality. That the one spouse is somehow unequal in their ability to secure work, even if out of work for a while. The requirement that the receiving spouse must be maintained in the lifestyle they were sued to during the marriage is pure fantasy and malevolent. What if the quality of life of the paying party is continually lower to maintain that lifestyle. If both spouses are capable of working then the court should ensure that they do. If one spouse… | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:26 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.I like this move to a fairer, more rational system. My wife deliberately chose not to work such that her income could be considered as effectively zero for purposes of support calculations. She had worked for charities, on boards, planned events, none of this was considered work apparently. I am expected to continue alimony, it has been as high as $110K per year (and I am not a multi-millionaire not even remotely close). This has impoverished me, I am 55, I do earn pretty well as CEO of startups… | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:21 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.Not a bad point - but in my case, I had four jobs including my own consulting firm. Our kids had got older, and I asked my wife if she now might begin to explore working 1 day a week and getting more education, easing back slowly over several years. She refused to consider any kind of work, and demanded I provide for her for the rest of her life. The current system allows for and encourages this behavior. I have paid for everything for my ex wife for 30 years and still have 8 years to go. This s… | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:17 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.Agreed. There's no basis for alimony. | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:12 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.Complete and utter nonsense. I looked after our four children in every sense. That's part of the bargain of being in a relationship, give and take. With now totally equal access to same paying jobs, why is it women still do not make it to top CEO jobs? Because its damned hard, stressful and physical, and a lot harder than looking after four children at once. | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:11 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.A stay at home spouse isn't working 24/7 in any reality...that's an absurd assertion. The vast majority of stay at home spouses receive great help on food prep, cleaning, childcare from their spouses these days. Being in the home with children is called 'parenting'. Its what you make a decision to do when you have unprotected sex. | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:09 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.Your understanding of alimony is really quite naïve. The courts do not make a rational assessment of both parties having responsibilities. In many cases alimony (even without children to care for) can be for life or a decade or more, not a 'few years' to allows the other party to secure education and a career/job. You are assuming a rationality and fairness - alimony isn't that, it is intended to punish men for being men and being providers. | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:07 AM
Can someone explain to me how Alimony is fair, just or needed in this day and age.You are correct. Alimony isn't fair. It isn't intended to be fair, it is intended to punish you as a man. It's purpose is wealth transfer form men to women (not children, women). It's driven by radical feminism that has allowed gender ideology to permeate our Family Law courts. Two people make a baby, two people therefore have a responsibility for the welfare of that child. Perhaps that won't be an equal contribution, but it should be 'a; contribution. Family Law globally allows for mothers/wome… | /r/MensRights | 29/12/22 06:03 AM
