To some extent homophobia contributes to the problem. But, as I said, it seems like society is more accepting of gay men wearing what they want than straight men. There could be a lot of reasons for this but my intuition is that women feel less "threatened" by homosexual men exposing themselves than straight men. Here, "threatened" ostensibly means physically, but in reality means socially (i.e., in terms of socio-sexual power).

Paragraphs 3 and 4 of your response are spot on. As to the first 2, I was allowing for both conscious and subconscious suppression of men by other men. I believe that you are right that in most cases this oppression is subconscious on the part of the oppressors. But there are certainly some who oppress other men knowingly because they know that this is necessary for their own success and they are selfish individuals. In other words, male feminism is essentially about selfishness.
