For me, it took counseling, time, self work, and reflection before I was ready to get out there and meet other folks. The first time I went on a date after my ex left I felt like a cheater…. My sub conscious hadn’t caught up to reality yet. Counseling helped. I remember one phrase that he gave me. “You’re thinking about relationships like a car you’re both in driving down the highway. While you’re driving down the highway, the engine has a problem so you pull over. You think what you need to do …

I’m sorry this happened and played out the way it did for you dude. It’s been a year, she’s not coming back. And even if she was… she left you for a year… you don’t need someone like that in your life. You’re a lawyer, you’re getting fit, and you’re still pretty young. First, get in therapy and put some work in, THEN, get out there in the world and start dating. I had a hard time getting over my ex until I got myself back out there.

It’s normal to feel guilty when you hurt someone’s feelings. It doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice, it means you have empathy for them and how they feel. You shouldn’t second guess the decision. If it was bad enough for you to leave it’s better to end it than carry it on and have the relationship become more toxic. You’re in purgatory right now, the divorce isn’t finalized. Get the divorce finished, and start fresh. Move on. Let her do the same.

Bro, you’ve been telegraphing for a year. Either you’re working on the relationship or you end it. You don’t sit in it for a year not doing anything… get up and do the paperwork, or fix the relationship, but if you keep dragging this out she’s gonna find something to ruin you in court. Saying that you’re basically roommates is a cop-out. You didn’t file, you threatened to file, and she probably isn’t taking you seriously because you aren’t acting serious. Make up your mind.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
