OYS 16 Stats: 28, 5’7”, 184 lbs (down 5lbs from last week) Reading: Making Men by Chuck Holt, Bigger Leaner Stronger by Michael Matthews Lifts: Bench 225x4, OHP (smith) 80lbs per side x 6, squat 275x3, deadlift 385x3, weighted pull ups 70x4, DB incline press 95x6 Diet: Much better this week, scheduled cheat meal for Sunday evening and otherwise hit my calories every day (1970). Not expecting to drop 5 lbs every week but I’m happy about the progress. I’m aiming for about 200g protein a day which …

I took this situation more as a dose of reality than getting upset about his opinion. I don’t think he was wrong, but as I’ve thought about your first comment I agree that it doesn’t really matter. And you’re 100 percent right that this pretty much directly led to sex.

I feel this then starts to open some bandwidth for me to look at other MRP personal growth areas. Lift, STFU and sidebar can be done simultaneously. You don’t get shredded and then all of a sudden you’re allowed to stop lifting and you can focus solely on “other areas.” I have not read/internalised properly NMMNG On the other hand, this is 101 stuff. I would finish NMMNG before moving onto other readings. Hell, read it twice.

OYS 15 Reading this week: Wild At Heart by John Eldridge, dealing with anger Corrected stats: Last week zen told me I had around 20lbs to lose and I thought maybe that was an overestimation until I stepped on the scale Wednesday morning. Fuck me, I was 190. I hadn’t stepped on the scale prior to my last OYS and I just assumed I was still 185. This morning, 189. Still short though (5’7”). Physical: I was on fire at the start of the week, hitting my cals (1970) and my lifts all improved a little b…

looking for a reaction This is definitely part of the problem, reaction (validation?) seeking instead of being self-amusing. I appreciate the feedback.

other lifts I only posted the lifts from the past week, 1RMs for the others are Squat 315, DL 385, OHP 135. you do not know what you want yet. Totally agree, and this is the biggest part of my drunk captain-ness. I think the purpose behind that mantra is to teach myself not to be pressured into doing what other people want me to do, which is a huge part of how I’ve made decisions during my adult life (and therefore why I don’t even know what I want).

OYS 14 Stats: 28, 5’7”, ~185lbs, pic Readings last week: Mystery method (53%), what power does she have over you? Last week’s lifts: Bench 235x2, DB incline press 90x6, pull ups (body weight only)x14, some ancillary work. Physical: Started tracking calories and macros for the first time. Going for 1970 calories a day for body recomp (lose the belly fat) before going for a bulk. Macros are split as 50% protein, 30% carbs, 20% fat. Never really tracked macros before so I’m going off of internet br…

OYS 13 Stats 28, 5’7”, 185lbs Lifts: Bench 225x2, DL 385x1, squat 315, OHP 135x1 Recent reading: Mystery Method (35%), Shit test encyclopedia from TRP sidebar Physical: I’ve grown frustrated at my lack of progress in my strength/physique and it has to be because of diet. This is also an opportunity to exercise some frame, since 90 percent of the garbage I eat is when my wife puts it in front of me (slice of cake after dinner, “let’s share this brownie,” etc.). I don’t know what my BF is and I do…

Don’t want to/anxious is exactly what I mean. Force myself to get more comfortable in approaches and conversation/game rather quickly than force an awkward interaction. However, I appreciate the call out on the language I used because you are absolutely right.

OYS 12 Recent Lifts - DB bench 90lbsx5, weighted dips 55x7, no other new PRs. Bench 225x2, Squat 315, DL 365, OHP 125x3 Reading - Re-read NMMNG twice the last two weeks and went through Rian’s NMMNG videos again. I clearly had not internalized the concepts after the first run through. Read the old TRP post about DARE not DEER Purpose/mission - I got very solid feedback on my last post about finding this and losing the FOMO/jealousy over what other people around me do post-military. I’m still fig…

OYS 11 Age: 27 5’7” 185lbs. BF unsure. This is my first OYS in 9 months. Not here to DEER or make excuses about it, I should have been here all along and I know I should have made more progress. Lifts: Bench 225x2, Squat 315x1, Weighted Pull-Ups w/90lbsx5, OHP 125x3 Read: NMMNG, WISNIFG, TWOTSM, Rational Male blogs, most MRP posts throughout 2021, Depressed and Anxious Wives by Horns. Reading: Re-reading NMMNG. Background: Against the advice of many, especially here, I went through with getting …

OYS #10 27, 5’7”, 182lbs, 15% BF (navy) Health: The first thing new is that I’ve cut a ton of carbs from my diet, minimal sugar, and finally I’m starting to cut some bodyfat. I stayed around 16 percent during all 9 of my previous OYS posts. I’m one of those guys that gains weight in my face, and I’ve hated my own face since December (my heaviest being 190lbs). Im looking forward to see my cheeks slimming. I was being a fat little bitch and prioritizing food that tastes good over what will make m…

You already know the answer. You’re looking for someone to reassure you that you can save your marriage, which you can, IF you do the work. If you’ve been “lurking” for long enough you know this to be true. Sidebar.

OYS #9 27, 5’7”, 190lbs, ~16%BF, engaged Fitness: Traveled all week for work, no gym access. Did push ups and ab workouts on the floor. Fiancée got COVID so I won’t be able to leave the house for a while. Sucks. But I’ll be excited to get back into the gym. I’ve been slacking off on diet which should be obvious from the fact that all 9 of my OYS posts have been ~16% BF. My goal is to get down to 12% in the next two months by cutting out the carb-dense bullshit out of the diet, staying limited to…

Am/was I insecure? Yes. Do I chase validation? Probably, yes. I don’t think I’ve ever admitted that to myself before so thanks for bringing that up.

Thank you for the feedback. I hear your warning, and the wedding is in mid April. I realize that this is not a lot of time to get the power dynamic completely under control. I won’t try to rationalize it, but I will say I’m doing the work I can now to try to set this up for success.

That’s a good question. There’s a long winded story behind it, but it’s her awful reaction to my honesty that I let myself become afraid of. I’ve been operating in her frame and caring way too much. Definitely some one-itis in there. Small example: her: “do you think [my friend’s girlfriend] is pretty?” Me: “yeah, sure” her: “well that’s fucking great maybe you should be with her then” followed by some other bullshit that typically* would result in a day-long argument (DEERing on my part the who…

OYS #8 27, 190lbs, ~16% BF, engaged. Health/Lifts - had a light week, except one day going for 1RM on squat. Still 335 (no change). Everything else was more of hypotrophy workouts instead of going for heavy sets of 3-5 which is my normal routine. I’m hoping the rest will give me an edge up on next week going for some new PRs. Relationship: I mentioned in a previous OYS that I always have a hard time dealing with shit tests when I’m away for work. This week I will be away again and I’m actually r…

OYS #7 26, fiancée 24, together 4 yrs. 5’7”, 190lbs. 16% BF (navy). Lifts: 1RMs — bench 225, DL 415, squat 335 Did some accessory work this week and then went on vacation without much gym access. Relationship: Lots of problem solving to do this passed week. Went on vacation and had flight cancellations, got screwed over with two different rental cars, and my fiancée took an ugly fall on the mountains while skiing that landed her in the ER (minor knee injury, she’s ok). It was an opportunity to p…

OYS #6 Stats: 27, 188lbs, 5’7”, ~16% BF Lifts of the week: Squat 305lbs x 3, close grip BP 205 x 5, DL 365 x 4, power clean 205 x 2 Relationships: I am going to shorten this story to the best of my ability but this particular situation has been developing for about two years. My fiancée and I both had a close relationship with our Jiu Jitsu instructor and he even “hired” me as an assistant for a few years (took away my gym fees and I taught afternoons). A few years ago we were training almost ev…

OYS #5 Health: Lifts this week: DL 315 x 10, close grip BP 225 x 1, squat 285 x 5, hex bar deadlift 385 x 3 Relationship: Seeing some results from fogging when I’m confronted. I don’t know what kind of test it is (shit vs comfort) and not that it really matters I guess in this context, but I was confronted about some BS from Instagram and why such and such girl follows me, why did I follow this girl, etc. This was always a big blind spot for me and right now I am all about no DEERing, no bullshi…

You’re definitely right that way too often I’ll act defensive over something that wasn’t intended to be offensive to me anyway. WISNIFG has been a huge help with this as of late, but I agree completely that being defensive is never a move that is in line with having your shit together. I appreciate the breakdown of what that question is really implying, and my mission here is to quit being a bitch (dependent on her reaction) and be more honest in situations like this.

This is solid advice, I appreciate it and agree with your first comment that I have been acting afraid of being honest and/or not being liked.

I appreciate the feedback, you’re right that I already knew there’s no “right” answer to beat bullshit questions like that. Definitely have been too concerned about the reaction I’ll get in return, which is lame. Thanks.

OYS #4 Stats: 26 years, 5’7”, 185lbs. BF I am unsure about because I’ve had a crap diet most of the week and my stomach is noticeably bigger (bloated) already. Recent lifts: BP: 205x5, front squat: 185x5, barbell row: 185x6, OHP: 135x2 I got the call last Tuesday morning to leave on short notice for the entire week. Been on the road the whole week, on planes constantly. Health - only got three workouts in this week due to constant flying/traveling and subsequently my diet was mostly dog shit. No…

OYS #3 26 years, 5’7”, 185lbs, ~16%BF I revisited a book I read in the summer called The Code by Jocko Willink, which gives you a self evaluation to do on yourself based on health, personal & professional development, character/leadership, relationships, and preparedness/safety. It’s basically a book for OYS, figured it’s worth sharing with this community. Health - Early in the week I injured my knee at Jiu Jitsu and didn’t get to train after that. Kept lifts to mostly upper body this week until…

Bench 225, Squat 335, DL 415, Snatch 155, C&J 205 - Started adding the CrossFit football workout programs into my strength training and I have a friend that I compete with. We met at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She is not from the United States but graduated college here. I separate from the military this year. I don’t necessarily disagree with anything you said, I’ve seen rough divorces happen in the military (and in general) as well. I appreciate the feedback so far.
