Why wouldn't they assume that negging is purely about pointing out physical flaws after reading that article about a tactic called "negative-hitting"? The article that was linked to certainly does not sound like tactics for playful banter and building comfort, and apparently some people think that these are viable tactics, regardless of whether or not you do. You may not believe that negging is about lowering someone's self-confidence, and that is fantastic. But if you google "negging" the first…

All right - if that's what you define a neg as then I don't have a problem with that specific definition, and I am by no means denying that women are also rude at times. It's no more acceptable from women than from men unprovoked. If a woman is being outright rude to you for no reason, then I don't really have a problem with being rude back.

Yes I have, but only with men I already know, never someone I've just met. And quit talking to me as if I don't know what flirting is - I may have different ideas about it but you don't have to talk down to me.

I don't know where you got the "They should spend the night complimenting me on my appearance so I can ditch them later" message from at all, and quite frankly any person, man or woman, who intentionally leads someone on like that is an ass not worth anyone's time. Where did you get that message from the posts? I will agree with you that in most cases someone very attractive can get away with saying things that other people can't necessarily (Neil Patrick Harris isn't the best example here, beca…

I don't understand how negging is supposed to be flirting - that just makes no sense to me. It reads like manipulation.

Granted, the whole PUA thing isn't something I do or something I pay attention to, so I have no idea how accepted or prevalent negs are among people who subscribe to that idea. So I'm going to say what I think based on what I know so far, and if I'm making assumptions that are incorrect please let me know. In my view, negging is still a terrible thing to do, regardless of skill level, if the point of doing so is to make a person feel insecure and vulnerable. From what I can see of it, it's inten…

Well, from an XX perspective, I'm with many of the girls in the thread - if someone used any of those tactics listed in the article I'd wonder why they hadn't learned manners as children. Light teasing I like fine, and I'll usually start it with someone. However, teasing strangers about their physical appearance or personality, especially when it is intended to make someone feel insecure, is incredibly rude. I'd get up and leave after calling them out. I would never use them on anybody either.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
