Maybe my view is just a product of my current situation. In college, unfortunately, things like work ethic, self-discipline, and delayed gratification are definitely not common or even respectable things. I often find that the sense of feeling like an outlier comes most strongly when I dedicate myself to my schoolwork. Well sure, I would never be rude or standoffish to somebody, but I'm talking more about the mindset behind the actions. Seeing the good in people instead of the bad is the difference between enthusiastic love and loathing courtesy, IMHO.

Does anyone else have trouble dealing with this? As an engineering student I find myself having to decline a lot of invitations because of work. Seems like the only solution is just to work harder and make more free time.
