That's strange. I have a happy, well adjusted couple in my closest circle that has been polyamorous throughout their very happy 13 year relationship. I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment that probably most people going down this road do it for the wrong reasons. But what I am saying is that it's very difficult to generalize for the whole of the population. And I have my friends to prove that point. 🙏

That's a pretty black/white statement.

No doubt, and I'm sure your experience will be a strength in the future. Our wounds really are, if they get the opportunity to heal up. And they WILL, if the conditions you offer your body are right. <3 Good luck on your path!

I literally don't know how many times I've watched that masterpiece, and how many friends, family members and clients I've pointed her way. A truly transformative work of art, that stand-up is, in my opinion.

Haha well, all I can recommend is: heal your own wounds before you start practicing. Many programs require you seeking therapy for yourself as a part of the education. Mine didn't, didn't even mention it, so I went into the job oblivious to my own blind spots. I paid dearly for it.

I use Hannah Gadsby's Nanette as a vettng strategy. If you can't sit through that without opening your mouth and start to defensively mansplain, I don't need you in my life.

This is so common that we ourselves make fun of it. It's fx. a light hearted conversation starter when new therapists stay working at my place, in our lunch breaks. "So, who were you trying to save?" (Another spoiler alert: most cases it's ... Guess who? The father).

Are you sure this was a licensed therapist? EDIT: And I'm sorry this happened to you!! I don't mean to make little of your experience at all! This just doesn't sound like a person that's gone through years and years of education and training.

I agree with that sentiment. We are a bit like jeans, sometimes you gotta try a few on before you find the right fit. However, why people got into the profession is not a question I'd necessarily recommend as it's really doesn't give you any helpful information. (And spoiler alert: the answer is always similar. Most do it because we - or someone close to us (usually growing up) needed fixing and we were taught their feelings were our responsibility and we went above and beyond trying to fix. Tha…

After working as a flight attendant I stay clear of the glorified bus drivers that are pilots. Ugh.

Nope. That's gonna hit like a ton of bricks some time later in life... When and if she's ever ready to see it. I hope it won't be too late, for both her and her children.

"I thought I was doing enough by doing things around the house but that wasn't the type of love she needed and I coudn't hear her teling me that over and over until it was too late." "I better make sure people know about that time I put my dish in the sink instead of leaving it on the sofa table to balance out the fact that I treated my wife as a free maid." Fixed it for you, dude. And honestly, this is what gets me EVERY. TIME: You know that orange neon worker vest and neon yellow cones that ai…

I don't get the joke either. Is she pointing at something special? The video ends shortly after she points. Can someone explain?

Research shows that you can inherit your ancentor's trauma. It's all in what's called epigenetics, which basically means that your life experience governs which genes are active and which genes are not. A traumatic experience can change our gene expression, which is then inherited by our child. Rachel Yehuda has been doing very interesting research on Holocaust survivors and their children, in this respect, if you want to check it out.
