Analogies are unnecessary because human reproduction is a unique situation. A cake is a cake, and a baby is a baby. I'm not saying it's fair - I can see how it is unfair. But as I said in my first comment, this is how human biology is set up. This is our reality - only women can gestate, and therefore, women have control over what happens during that process. Legal systems generally acknowledge this reality by allowing women to solely decide on matters of abortion, etc., without the man's input.…

Why? They had help getting pregnant - and that counts for something. Also, men have always been able to walk away from their children. Even today, a man paying child support doesn't even come close to what a single mother has to do for that child on a day-to-day basis. And many men don't even pay the full amount of child support that is requested.

Who was raped? The gf changed her mind... which happens to both men and women when facing an unplanned pregnancy. Men and women who are avowedly child-free change their minds all the time when they face impending parenthood. If anything, this is a cautionary tale - not a case of rape. You're watering down the horror of rape by calling this that.

What does that have to do with the topic at hand? The fact is that men cannot gestate (at least for now, who knows where science will take us in the future?). Therefore, women are largely in control of whether they continue a pregnancy. Short of forcing a woman to abort a baby she wants to carry to term by any means (which is illegal), what are men to do but take all precautions not to have a child if they don't want one? He should have gotten a vasectomy if he didn't ever want children. The fact is that human biology means that women carry babies in their bodies and therefore naturally have control over that compared to men.

I read this change as a positive thing because the default was allowing abusive parents access to their children. Under this presumption that children automatically benefit from having both parents in their lives, abusive parents were put in an easier position to have contact with their kids leading the abuse continuing. In cases where abuse is happening from one parent (father or mother), doesn’t this protect children?
