Yeah, I think I'd mostly agree with that statement.

I started doing chores when I was about eight. I helped cook and clean. I also learned how to fix little things around the house. I had to shovel the sidewalks in winter and mow the lawn in summer. Although I am Canadian, not American... Maybe that's why.

The trials for this started in 2016 to see if it could help keep women safer. Men won't get fined for parking in those spots, but they are encouraged to leave them for women. https://www.news.com.au/national/western-australia/perth-carpark-trials-female-friendly-parking-zones/news-story/e8e1d21668ed056ce92f75f5aba43e74

That is one of the dumbest things I've heard. I'll be honest, I don't agree with everything posted here, but that's just idiotic. Good lord.

My understanding on “mansplaining” isn’t that it silenced women. It’s to represent the idea that men try to explain things to women when they are not trained in that area and know less on the topic. Things like menstrual cycles or childbirth. It would be like if a man (who is not a doctor or has any training of any kind) tried to tell a woman how to correctly use a tampon without her asking for advice. Chances are she knows what she’s doing and does not need help from anyone. That’s not to say t…

It seems like all they were saying is that women ATTEMPT suicide more often than men. Men die by suicide more often, but women attempt it more often.

“Rape culture” may have originally been coined to describe men’s prisons, but definitions of words can evolve. Rape culture is an accurate description of quite a lot of what goes on in North American society. I can say this with absolute confidence. Rape is not that rare in western society. The majority of females I know have been sexually assaulted to some degree. So many women in my life have been raped. Literally raped. I also don’t know if I can agree with your statement that rapists are pro…

I don’t think “the patriarchy is suppressing me.” But I also know that sitting cross-legged is not very comfortable for me, either. But I do it because I don’t want to be in other people’s personal space. I also would rather have my leg touching someone’s bag than their leg. I didn’t mean to offend anyone, I’m just trying to give another opinion. It’s not the end of the world, I’m just letting letting you know how I feel, and how a lot of other people I know feel.

It does suck to have a guy sit next to you on the train and sit with his legs spread so I have to move away in order to not awkwardly touch a stranger’s leg. Especially when he’s taking up more than his fair share of room. It’s really uncomfortable. And unnecessary. Yes, maybe women should just say something, but that’s uncomfortable, too. And hard to do. And I don’t understand the talk about seeing a woman’s crotch if she sits that way. I doubt they’d do it in a skirt, so it’s not like you’d be…

That is part of the reason I’m here, is to learn more about other points of view and do my best to not be biased. I’m still learning and I am totally open to learning and understanding all sides of all of this. There’s so much information and statistics and opinions and stories, it’s hard to keep up with all of it. But I hope this is a way to help me become a little more knowledgeable. And I do appreciate your advice and point of view, so thank you.

There is definitely a lot of baggage (and eye rolling) involved in being a feminist. It is nice to see that not everyone just assumes that feminists are crappy people who don’t care about anyone but themselves.

I do have a problem with blaming everything on “the patriarchy.” Sure, that’s part of it, but there are so many other important contributing factors that a lot of people tend to ignore.

Wow, thank you for sharing. I am interested in the future of feminism. I guess it doesn’t really matter what the people who achieve actual equality call themselves, as long as it happens. And when that happens, I don’t think the hysterical sycophantic hypocrites will go away but maybe they will be quieter about it and have less (or no) power. We can hope.

I think that’s a good way to look at it. I wish it wasn’t a continuum and everyone who considers themselves a feminist would be an egalitarian.

Thanks for your opinion. I think maybe that’s part of the reason I try to be vocal about being a feminist and doing my best to behave as a person who believes in equality for all genders. I want to show people that feminists can be true egalitarians. I can’t say I’m perfect at it, but I try! I haven’t seen it, but another user recommended it to me, so I am going to watch it!

It is a gendered term, but it’s also a pretty powerful word. And I do truly believe in equality for both genders, and I try to act in a way that upholds these beliefs. Maybe we do need a different word, but this is the one I’m sticking with for now.

Yeah, I wonder about that. But I’m going to keep hoping...

Hopefully the future has a better definition for feminism. Thanks for sharing!

That appears to be a popular definition! Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately, that is what a lot of feminists believe. Maybe one day that will change. Thanks for sharing your definition!

Thank you for your response! I sometimes struggle with using the word “feminist,” but I try to use it because I consider myself one of the “good” feminists and truly do believe in gender equality across the board, not putting women above men. So maybe the more people who practice and believe in true gender equality and call themselves feminists, the less “bad” the word will become. I hope that made sense...

Nah, it’s not. I just know that there are a lot of different definitions of feminism. I know what I think it is, but I’d like to know what other people think it is.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
