Refusing to succumb to suicidal urges isn't cowardly, even though it may feel like cowardice: it's brave. I've been there. Been there for a considerably long period of time. I know what that's like, and I finally feel like I WANT to live, which I thought was going to be impossible for me. I feel like we have so much in common. I'm not a guy, but I've always had a similar fixation on finding that one person, and feeling like it's never going to happen at 19, 20, 21 . . . it's devastating. The thi…

Ducks in a row sounds like a good idea. Career, spirituality (if you're into that), five-year plan, whatever. Sounds like you've had a pretty intense few years and its understandable that you feel burned out. A change of pace is probably just what's going to balance your life out right now and make you feel fully awake again.

Well you probably already know this but when it comes down to it, it's not the ridiculously loud, brainless guys that are attractive to most women. You don't even need to worry to compete with that. Even if they're not approaching you at the moment, people almost definitely see you being the quieter, more mysterious, observant guy at parties and wonder "What's that guy all about?" I'm an introvert myself, and so is my brother, and we've both experienced that the mysterious/introverted vibe actua…

I (a girl myself) have girl friends like that. The best thing, usually, is to just smile and say, "I was joking", or "just kidding", and they'll generally smile and laugh it off, even if they still don't actually get it. I figured this out after listening to how they talk to their friends/family, and realizing that their idea of humor is in fact to follow every joke with a "just kidding", like a label just so everybody's clear, and every statement is taken sincerely by them as literal unless pro…

I guess my thing is I'm a total romantic so I don't even think flirting with a different person every time I go out sounds like fun . . . it's obviously a matter of difference of personality. I'd rather be in love with one fantastic person than go around trying to pick up or get picked up by random people who I just sort of find attractive. For me finding "the one" is my idea of winning the whole game and being optimally happy. So yeah, I guess we're just different.

Next time try asking about a day a week later. As a woman I can tell you we appreciate that, because it shows consideration, plus it makes us really anticipate the date because there's waiting time for anticipation to build (a side note, I don't recommend texting often before the date, that's risky and kind of deflates the anticipation).

If you feel like it's just not your lucky year with women (and good grief, you're not even 21 yet, you have SO MUCH TIME so don't stress), spend this time working on other aspects of your life, like reading, if that's a thing you're into, hobbies, friends, whatever works and you feel like is a good use of your time - it will totally make you more attractive to women, you'll find, when the dry spell inevitably comes to a close. Patience is tough but it pays if you calculate the value of your time…

I wouldn't force it, or stress about it. It happened before without you trying, right? And the fact that it happens for you even occasionally is impressive. I think it indicates that even when you're not attracting an entire room's attention, you almost certainly have a great level of charisma about you on a consistent basis. On a goofy note, when I read your title, before reading the actual post, I thought, hm, how to get the entire room's undivided attention . . . oh, so many ideas! Set fire t…

As a woman I can tell you that there are absolutely guys we value as friends, not because we think they're unattractive, but because obviously not every man and every woman have sexual chemistry. I have guy friends I'm not attracted to physically (only because of chemistry, not because I couldn't see another woman going head-over-heels) but we have an intellectual connection that would be the same if we were two dudes, two girls, too aliens, whatever. Oh, and what about this one: my brother and …

Everybody has something no one else has. Your personality reflects itself in your physical appearance when you nurture your good, unique traits, and build your confidence in them. When you have confidence, you develop charisma, and the great thing about charisma is that you don't need to actively draw attention to yourself, just be engaged in your surroundings and the right attention will come to you. It takes practice and focus, and not giving up, but it works. I'm not a guy so I don't know abo…

As a woman, this is my guess about why the situation turned out like that: I'd bet she really wanted to be friends because she felt you two hit it off and have things in common, but it turns out she's also attracted to you and maybe she wasn't expecting it to be so strong. This is awkward and it happens. Sometimes people think they can ignore or "handle" their attractions to people when really it's more difficult than they think it's going to be. If this is the case, then you didn't do anything …

In person is always better. I'm a girl, I have girl friends, trust me, I know. It's so worth working up the courage to ask in person. Besides, if you're afraid to talk to her to ask her out, are you really confident enough yet in your conversational skills to go on a great date with a girl? Unless you also want the date to be comprised of text messaging back and forth that's probably not the best plan. I know risking rejection is the worst. I'm not a guy, so I've never asked a woman out, but I a…

That's a good problem to have. If you can think about changing specific behaviors - think before you act, "does this seem needy?", and you can work on your presentation until you don't come off as needy anymore, trial and error is necessary but it'll pay off, like with so many things in life - you're set. The feeling of loving being with a girl is not a bad thing, and from the insider's perspective (me being a woman), when presented well, in moderation, that vibe from a guy is totally attractive…

. . . I AM a woman. You can take my ideas or leave them, obviously, I just think that it's nicer having someone you know you get along with and have chemistry with by your side all the time, than to have the stress every single night you go out about finding a woman you might get along with, then chatting her up, and not losing her to some other guy . . . personal opinion, obviously.

Take this or leave it, but I think a) if you don't want a girl who's going to change her mind about you when she's sober, then find a way to meet girls that doesn't involve alcohol (it'a a little less easy than bars, but pays off), and b) the hookup culture is super tough on people, I see how it seems like it would be easier, no strings attached and all that, but honestly I think it's better to invest in finding a nice girl who really likes you, enough for it not to matter if another dude tries …

Your hard work and years of battling your issues, getting knocked down and getting back up (however half-heartedly at times) will pay off. It's a long road, but when you're at the end of it it's going to seem like it took no time at all. And let me tell you something I think I know for sure: We're ALL super screwed up inside. And yet people find love and social success and all that anyway. The contacts you make when you're young don't have to be the greatest contacts of your life, or even be suc…

This is easy for me to say and obviously harder in practice, but you've just got to keep trying. Also, pace yourself. If you feel like it would help, maybe just try warming up to talking to girls by going out of your way to be social and chat with any and everybody you see in your daily life, cashiers, teachers, classmates you're not interested in, whoever. That way, when you talk to a girl you won't have the nervous pressure of the newness of talking to a person period on top of the inevitable …
