I'm in PA. I think we have some of the most punitive child support laws here.

Yeah exactly. I know very little of that money is going to my kids. Well, maybe in more expensive vacations and nicer dinners out. But mainly their mom is using it for herself. Meanwhile I won't be able to afford a decent vacation for years and I had to stop saving for my kids' future/college.

Thanks. Yeah I've stopped expecting anything good or fair when it comes to the courts. But I'm still somewhat hopeful

I was dumb. Rectifying that situation but I thought I was doing what was best for the kids at the time to provide them with stability. I was wrong.

Yes solely based on overnights

Yep. I take solace in knowing it's just money and I have kept all of this away from the kids.

I knew it could be calculated via overnights but she assured me it wouldn't be filed in those mediation sessions. Should have gotten it in writing but the mediator turned out to be not the best. Not sure it would have stood up anyways.

I don't need her money and wouldn't normally go after it. But after all of this, yes, I'll be looking for every penny, lol.

Thanks. Yeah I'm going for it. It just pisses me off that we can come to agreement on a schedule that mainly works for her and then she can turn around years later and file for support. Changing custody messes up a good schedule where I am with my kids every day which I love. But I just can't afford to pay her almost 16k a year for no reason when I could be spending that money on the kids and actually saving. My lawyer estimated I'll be getting 200/month in support from her after I get 50/50. I'…

It's what I'm doing.. It's just that the courts are so backed up that I'm going to probably be paying support for the better part of the year. On top of lawyers fees, I'm nearly broke. It just bothers me that the courts take two seconds to figure out support and don't take anything outside of overnights into consideration. I get that support is needed in many cases but I also feel like a lot of guys like me try to be flexible with the schedule and get absolutely screwed. And it's taken advantage…

Therapy works if you're both committed and have a good therapist who isn't easily steamrolled. In my case, my ex wanted to use therapy to vindicate every negative thought she had towards me. When the therapist pointed out something she needed to work on, she got defensive and angry and he backed down

Ha. My lawyer is great, I'm glad I have him.

Exactly. I'm usually pretty good about this, even when it gets bad. Which has helped to diffuse things. If it goes that route again I'm going to bring it up with my lawyer. I've got all of the old texts saved and cataloged as well.

The using the kids as pawns for more money part feels pretty gross to me. There is zero reason for her to get support other than that she can.

Thank you for the kind words.

Yeah its the entitlement that astonishes me. Give her the schedule she wants, allow her to work uninterrupted (and not have to pay for after school care), I take them extra when needed, I pay for over half of their expenses. AND now I also get to pay hundreds a month in support.

Thank you. I still question what is best for the kids, oddly. But I know they don't consider my home their home because they spend so much less time here.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
