Yess! People constantly abuse and humiliate others and then just say "well you should love yourself" Everyone is responsible for their own healing and growth, of course, but that doesn't take away other people's accountability for the damage done. Yeah she should love herself but also they should go f* themselves

Oh god my ex mother in law used to say that. And when we broke up, she called me asking me to talk to him, get some sense into his head because he was pushing his family away and not doing well in college. I don't remember my answer, but I remember feeling flatterned that she thought I was such a good influence etc etc. Now I see it for what it was.

Yeah I saw on AskWomen "You can ask your ex one question with a guaranteed truthful answer. What do you ask?" And you know what? There's not one thing I need to know, I know everything that matters. I just don't ever want to be associated with them ever again.

Well, in my case he mentioned that he wanted to buy me something. So I spent $40 on a gift that can be easily regifted just in case. I will only give it if he gives me a gift first. It's a new relationship so I don't really know for longer relationships, for I only had those pre-FDS and I would NOT recommend doing anything I did back then.

I was OnE oF tHe BoYzzzz they respected and appreciated my friendship! If I was cheated on it was obviously my own fault If I don't have sex right away how will I know if we are compatible?????? Yeah I starve myself so I look skinny but it's not like I CARE to look hot, I'm just so cool and I don't care! I'm just obliviously hot!

Wow this just unlocked a memory of my ex. I was nervous to travel with him and his family and worried about how I would do my hair (very very thick hair) because my hair dryer wasn't working. This wouldn't stop me from going or anything but I was worried about it. He threw a fit and it was a Whole Thing for the rest of our, fortunately, short relationship. What the f* and I mean he never complained about having his arm candy all dolled up all the time but I couldn't be seen "worrying about it".

I think I'm still in the process, but for me it was working towards my goals. Having a well kept home, working out, dedicating myself to my job and my studies, it just takes a lot of time! So I didn't have time to center my life around men.

Yes, I'm seeing someone now and I had a situation recently where my head was ringing an alarm but my gut - the physical gut- just felt.... calm. And the situation ended up alright, with my gut being right.

The perfect physique despite never going to the gym is so damaging! As a chubby teen I never got it how people were so skinny and why I wasn't, with led to ED and depression. And in the movies they are always eating pizza, drinking beers, having ice cream and caloric food in general. It is so confusing for young girls, always made me feel like there was something wrong with me that I couldn't do those things and be a size 0.

I grew up in a tradicional setting, both parents present etc and I was comparing my issues with a friend that was raised by a single mom. Guess what, we have similar issues and father-related traumas. My father being in the house instead of out like hers made nothing better, it was actually damaging.

" I still feel like if a short, obese dude who didn't shave and had facial problems didn't want me, no HVM will." I feel this and understand how it must have felt. But let's reframe it? He KNEW he was an obese dude who didn't shave and had facial problems. He wanted to knock your confidence down so you didn't acknowledge you were much better than him and deserved much better than him. The only boyfriend who would call me fat was...... fat. And hairy. I think the pickme culture of creating a never ending competition between women is what makes us think that female friendships suck. If you are friends with pickmes it really WILL suck, you can never trust them, they will throw you under the bus anytime they feel like it, you will be lied to, treated badly and have your secrets exposed. But a good female friendship with HVW?? It's just the best. You will be valued, plan fun activities together, receive and give respectful advices without overwhe…

This reminds me of a time my friend was texting this guy from tinder, they arranged a date for the next day (saturday). He proceeds to talk to her saturday pretending that didn't happen, he even asked her what her weekend plans were. WHUUUT Her and pre-FDS I were baffled and really confused to why would he do that, or how she should respond. Now I know this is straight up disrespect and a move to make us insecure and eager for their attention.

Even at the peak of my pickme days I was just so annoyed when I was telling a guy that I was looking for an internship and he was trying to define me "oh you look like you prefer in this and this area, that you couldn't handle this and that" like hm excuse me? We've met 15 minutes ago?

The big plans part is what really makes me angry - to this day I have difficulty trusting when people say they have plans with me and they actually go through with it. I always think it's some kind of future faking and lovebombing :/ (working on that on therapy!)

I remember questioning an ex-fling once, he was telling me his ex had cheated but it was with a girl so it was okay. I asked if he was watching, if he enjoyed it and he told me he wasn't even there. This is the first book by her that I read, and it's actually painful how pickmeisha the character is. I haven't finished but I think your opinion is right, she is just *so different*, so much smarter and into politics and beautiful but doesn't know it and whatever. Oh please. But I'm actually finding it interesting to see "from the outside" something similar to what I used to be. It's embarassing but I'm finding it helpful to remind me to not EVER be like that again.

I think your feelings regarding #1 are valid, his message is basically that you're worth the effort only if fuckable, but as a person and a friend you're not. It's insulting and I understand why it would upset you. I think the lesson on this one is that 99,9999% of men are not friend material. And #2 ah well, OLD am i right? Looking for a needle in the haystack

Hmmm you're not wrong, I see your point, but I didn't feel the "ick" you know? I think she just told me as a curiosity and conversation starter, we hadn't spoken in a while and then she asked me how I was etc... But I see what you mean because she does know that I am heterosexual. The rest of the conversation was not sexual at all but I'll keep that in mind in future conversations.

We don't think about it because we simply don't judge every man that crosses our path on their looks. If we're not interested, there's no reason to do so. To this day it baffles me that man are unable to see a woman anywhere near their visual range and not evaluate if they think she's hot.

"I saw my boss in a forever relationship with his gf of over 10 years. He referred to her as his wife but later on laughed openly when one of the guys asked if he was married." I work with someone just like that and it's disgusting. She makes his meals every single day (and he obviously complains about it). It's just so sad. He is proud to have cheated on every single girlfriend he ever had (but not this one he says, I'm sure it's true!!!) and to never having wore a condom in his life.

Thank you! I have been a mechanical engineer since 2018. That's exactly the point, everytime I failed a class I knew exactly what went wrong. There was a specific class that I decided to give myself a break and not take it the next semester, because I didn't feel mentally ready. When I took it 2 semesters later, I aced it :)

Also, from an engineer's POV, never trust a person when they say it's too hard and it's okay to fail a class 3 times. I failed a couple classes (all of them just once) but honestly, it's not THAT hard and it's completely doable, men make it look harder so they'll have an excuse to be mediocre.

Spend more time with your friends, occupy your time and mind. Start a new tv show, a book, anything that helps distracting your anxious mind. Are you happy with your daily routine? Maybe start cooking more, exercising more, decorate a room... Basically any project that will improve your life and take time. Cry it out! Watch stupid romantic clichés until you feel you got it out of your system.

Adding to that: A HVM that wants you won't put himself in the position of losing you. AKA If he wanted to, he would. He would text, he would call, he would make you feel special, he would propose.

So this is my take after therapy and months of FDS and it's not an easy one. Yes, most men suck (nOt AlL mEn lol) but I finally see that the common denominator was... me. I allowed them to treat me that way, I stayed, I had no boundaries and no self respect. It hurts and I have a hard time forgiving myself for being in those situations but the thing is: I KNEW they sucked, I had hard evidence of them sucking and zero evidence of them not-sucking. Once you are healed (I'm on my way) and you start…

For me it's that I don't need to understand "why" anymore. I'm breaking free from the habit of trying to understand "why" did he say this, "why" did he act like that, "why" does this bother me if it looks harmless.... If there ever is a reason for a man to do something, it hardly ever is a good one. It doesn't matter why it bothers me, if it does it's my gut telling me to let him GO.

I don't know about that because I don't listen to The Weeknd but I'm with Kelly Clarkson's "Catch my Breath" song stuck in my head and I actually think the lyrics are pretty FDS-y, as in a former pickme finally seeing the light and being set free

Yeah I agree because I KNOW when I was at pickme peak I would dress way too revealing. It was the clother + the attitude and I'm sure I smelled desperate. Now I dress as I want, sometimes more revealing sometimes less, but it doesn't have the male gaze desperation, it's just for me. I definitely believe it's different and it was a consequence of my changed intentions and self esteem. I believe that's what OP meant.

I had tried to break up with him before but he didn't "let me", promising he would change, etc. Then, one week later, I called him and he just said he was at a party (that he never told me about...) and hung up on me. That was IT for me, I sent a text saying it was over. He didn't believe me! I love reading and watching True Crime. Unfortunately there aren't many weapons I can carry in my country also, but I usually focus on the profile of the perpetrators - which guys to avoid and which behaviours to look out for. For example, if FDS existed back then, many of Ted Bundy's victims could have been safe because they would know that men don't ever ask women for help being genuine. There's always an ulterior motive and it's never a good one.

It must have been awful to go through that. Good for you for being able to end it even with pickmeisha mindset, I think the hardest part of my journey is knowing when to let people go and actually doing it - but I will let this one go, I can do it!

A few years back I read in the news that a homeless men had raped a girl that had given him food. He broke into her student house with another guy, raped her and when she asked why was he doing that if she helped him, he said "because you were so nice". The other guy couldn't rape her because police got there first, but he was there to do so. Since them I NEVER help homeless men.
