Agreed. Sorry, friend, I think she has a healthy perspective on this for both your daughter and her co-parents. It might feel ass backwards to you in this moment, but a clean break is best so the healing can start.

Being “amicable” is a temporary situation… Yep. Get everything documented in the order, leaving nothing to trust / goodwill. In situations where legal docs / laws cannot protect your interests moving forward, take no risks. My lawyer b-slapped me into reality when I was ready to agree to terms that read “mother will make reasonable decisions about children’s extracurriculars and father will pay half” … this basically would have given her a blank check every month and zero protection for me if / …

I’ve gotten past most of the rage, but 1 year on, I’m right there with you on the disappointment in her, and absolute disbelief that after the many slaps in the face of my love and investment in her / us / kids before and during the divorce I still seem to love the bitch… fucking played. The version of myself who showed up at the altar 12 years ago looks like a real sucker to me in hindsight. She was taking candy from a baby and I now believe she knew what she was doing. Never again, my friend.

This hits for me and my experience in that great way that’s like damn, that constant nagging feeling that’s been kicking around in my brain for years but I haven’t been able to put my finger on it! Or maybe like that popcorn husk that’s been stuck in your tooth all day and you keep poking at it and poking at it, and your tongue is getting all irritated and raw and then suddenly it just slides out (gross… yes I know brushing or flossing is a better way but you know you’ve been there!) But YES! Ri…

My take without reading any other comments - you haven’t trusted her since the first time you were suspicious about her texting behavior. At least based on your recounting of that time several years + a lot of accrued baggage later… the way you’re reporting it to us now may be colored by the all of that stuff, but on the surface of it, it sounds like you’ve had a bad feeling > gathered evidence > confronted her > gotten defensive reactions > had your suspicions confirmed on some level … plus the…

D’oh! Sorry to pile on your profession, but having worked with both “family” lawyers and IP lawyers I can vouch for you. You are in an entirely different clan from the cannibals.

Yep - it’s such a weird feeling at first but then you realize you can leverage it to your advantage. The future is bright my friend!!

Appreciate everything about your post… but wanted to acknowledge / commiserate about the soul sucking, “cannibal” lawyers. These people are the absolute fucking worst!!! They have rigged the whole divorce game down to the last detail so they are the only “winners”. Operating in a culture that all but makes divorce inevitable for a large part of the population, I don’t know how they can look themselves in the mirror. Cannibals. My new favorite nickname for my firm and opposing. Apologies for the …

Reflecting on my first comment on this thread where I ranted about not feeling the urge to get out there with random women… the one time I have invested effort was at a destination wedding, but it wasn’t what you might think - not a random drunk hookup with a bridesmaid…. On 2-3 occasions as I was going about my business, I found myself engaged in interesting, face value conversations with an attractive member of the hotel staff. I honestly didn’t think anything of it, we had some common work an…

Great question and very much aligns with my discomfort at finding similar feelings to what OP described… I’ve come to the conclusion that the answer is - No. We aren’t broken for future relationships. We are more discerning and aware of when and what we want from them… we are no longer attracted like dogs to anything with a hole and a heartbeat, we now instinctually want the things from women / friends / work / life / experiences that are healthy and fulfilling for us… we have evolved! OP - don’…

I’m jumping in without reading any other comments so apologies if this is a repeat - congratulations my man, it sounds like you have attained enlightenment! Skipping comment about your ex’s behavior because yeah who the hell knows what her game is. I’ve been experiencing similar since my separation and pending divorce (about 8 months in). I’ve found there is so much emphasis or assumption that dating / fucking / partnering up with a new woman / etc. is a natural next step… very early in the proc…

Please go back and do it now. Is there such a thing? I’ve been putting off shopping for representation but this has me motivated.

Ah - didn’t realize you’re a year on from divorce. I completely support this approach. Glad you recognize your kid’s awareness and ability to parse things. Trust in that, don’t sink to her level, do you and be confident that the kids will see everything for what it is. Speaking from experience as a child of divorce, if they don’t get the nuance now, they will later and for me at least, my 20s, 30s, 40s have been when the relationship with my parents have really mattered… loaded comment I’m sure,…
