It actually is a huge burden on my mind. Look at these comments.

Literally all I do 24/7 by myself. You don’t need to recommend me anymore help than I’m actually getting right now.

I don’t think any of that is healthy.

Well this becomes a more interesting question: should people post all their red flags within the first few dates? Maybe it’s me hoping that I’m a better man underneath than what society says I am.

So you value the reason they’re divorced more than the fact they’ve been in therapy. Great. I don’t need confirmation and reminders of my past. That’s not why I’m dating. People that invite the discussion of therapy shouldn’t be as judgmental themselves.

No, but what you’re truly asking about is something they have been working on. If you’re not open to discussing what flaws your SO has been working on, then why are you asking it? For example: a woman I matched with last week said “therapy taught me I shouldn’t set myself on fire to make everyone else warm”. I responded “therapy taught me I should love myself before loving someone else”. She said “gosh I don’t think we’re a good fit” and unmatched. Literally same statement but different response…

I think the question becomes how do we know people’s tolerance for past mistakes and can we even forgive them if they’re shown a different light. Would you breakup with someone after 5-10 years together if they revealed they used to physically assault their ex? Even if they have done absolutely but show they’re the kindest, selfless, gentle human you’ve ever known? I think these hypotheticals get interesting based on people’s past. It’s a really tough thing to dive into and it reveals a lot abou…

The discussions on where we’re gonna eat tonight contributed to 90% of our heated arguments. (I’m sorry the self deprecating humor comes out every now and then).

I actually agree with this sentiment. But I also think inviting someone to be vulnerable with you suggests you might be a bit more understanding of the complexities and their character. It’s more shocking that a man raised his voice in divorce than if a woman did. I wouldn’t think a woman having raising her voice and being divorced and getting therapy is an immediate red flag.

I don’t trauma dump, I just say “oh hey I do that as well”. I think it’s totally fair for them to judge that, and if I ever get lucky to get into a serious relationship with someone again, I’d immediately establish a couples therapist to go through things on a monthly basis or more frequently. I tried doing that in the last month of my marriage but it was too little too late. I… I honestly carry this burden around all the time. People will claim she was the victim of the abuse and it is true, bu…

If you believe people are born evil, there’s no real need to keep discussing with you.

Yeah that makes a lot more sense.

You summarized everything I wanted to say. Revealing vulnerability and regrets to someone that invites those topics I feel shouldn’t be a trap but it feels that way at times.

I also subscribe to the belief some things can’t be fixed from therapy alone. But my issue is why invite that topic to begin with if you’re mostly not going to like their answer. For example, my ex wife refused therapy for her past trauma. She was verbally abused by her Mom and aunt and saw her Dad abuse her Mom physically. Long before the divorce I suggested she get help with that but she felt other things made her happier. She just kept defusing things. So when I had issues with her always goi…

You don’t think abuse is a cycle that manifests from childhood? It’s not like I woke up one day and said “I wanna have a big argument about finances and yell at my wife”. There are things that slowly trickle and boil over a period of years. My wife was extremely patient, forgiving, and even unfortunately even submissive. “No we can’t afford $500 weekend vacations every weekend. I pay your student loans that way!” Things that feel justified in screaming because you feel unheard is how this comes …

Again…. where did I leave that scenario out in that sentence.

I think it’s the hypocrisy of inviting to discuss it and then immediately shutting it down when they reveal what they were in it for. It’s not so much that the past shouldn’t catch up to you. Hardly. You want a person that is emotionally stable and is working on themselves when showing a prompt “looking for a man in therapy”. And quite honestly, maybe I’m probably not their cup of tea. But very few people actually get therapy (let alone afford it) when things are mostly great. Some don’t even se…

Literally was just that lonely. Got to saw my ex with her new bf (they moved in within 2 months of the separation) as happy as ever and I’m still working towards my happy ending.

But you literally just confirmed that assertion with your second statement. If the therapy being sought for makes you too uncomfortable, probably best not to invite conversation about it early on and save both our times.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/10/25 06:38 PM

Absolutely. In fact I had this come up several months ago when dating someone that said they suffered from BPD. They said they were in therapy but continued to act totally manic throughout our dates and the other times they were threatening suicide. They never commited to anything really.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/10/25 06:34 PM

I think that’s what worries me the most. It’d be like if I was born without legs. It just limits the dating pool so substantially that you’re just viewed so differently.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/10/25 06:29 PM

I think it boils down to if there is a belief people can change. If you believe therapy can change people then revealing the past doesn’t matter. If they are like you, who think some things can never truly be fixed by therapy, then it’s just a red flag that needs to be considered.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/10/25 06:26 PM

Yes, I see your point…

That’s kinda what makes this more depressing. I have extreme guilt over what happened and continue to believe something good can come out of therapy with the amount I’ve poured into it. I think people really aren’t as forgiving. Honestly my male and older female friends around me were all like “YEAH FUCK HER! YOU DESERVE BETTER”! I was literally the problem the entire time and it disgusts me looking back on who I am.

Isn’t it? I just admitted to something I did wrong and the profiles I match with are inviting those that are actively working on changing.

Nope you shouldn’t! Again, I alone needed the help.

Happens after a few dates when they ask what I’m in therapy for. I would never trauma dump like that but I do have to admit earlier either on the first or second date I was divorced.

That wasn’t me you’re responding to. She was legally entitled to half but a majority of everything was earned by me… but it’s not the point here.

It can be simultaneous trauma. I was actually really emotionally abusive to my wife. The problem was that her way of establishing boundaries ended almost an hour later with “let’s have sex” instead of “you need therapy and can’t speak to you until you commit to it”, and then me feeling the boundary doesn’t exist. I’m not the victim from her perspective or even a 3rd party perspective, but with the mental health challenges that I was going through, it felt like we were going through things that a…

Well I really like getting into shape and making my body look physically attractive. Again though I feel that comes from wanting to date attractive women. The only interest that I can think of that doesn’t have anything to do with women is video editing. I’ve gotten good at making AMVs but it’s not something I can showcase off to anyone and I certainly am not amazing at. However making these videos intrinsically make me happy and I know its better than 90% of the garbage people look up on YouTub…

I need some guide on how to do this then.
/r/askTRP19/06/18 06:40 PM

It’s probably that you have more muscle mass. The ideal scenario for me is to get where you are currently at and then cut again because having your abs stick out at 10-13% is having a lean and muscular build (which looks awesome btw bro). No there probably is some truth to that observation because I come off as more bubbly when I’m relaxed.

Cool I’ll start looking into this, thanks!

You’re the first person to have noticed my shoulders and it’s one of my biggest flaws right now. It takes a conscious effort to painfully adjust that. Outside of surgery, I don’t know much else besides seeing a chiropractor and working out. All the other advice was really helpful.
/r/askTRP19/06/18 04:37 PM
1

Dude it’s 10%. If there is anything that I know at all it’s my own measurements. It’s probably lack of muscle then. I’m doing a couple more weeks of cutting and then I will bulk up. What do you mean by nice guy?

Problem with that look is my widows peak pushes my hair out in opposite directions and growing it out leaves this ugly looking curl on both sides of my forehead. I can put all the gel I want into it but it won’t stay like that.

I want to look lean but if the average person says “you could use a little more muscle” then maybe I should start bulking again.
/r/askTRP19/06/18 01:34 AM

Well obviously but I don’t think I’ve leaned out enough in order to start bulking.

I’m comfortable being awkward and poking fun at myself in that type of situation but my intention isn’t to leave the women confused as hell lol.
/r/askTRP18/06/18 11:36 PM
1

Haha that definitely makes sense. I don’t use roids but do you think I’m at a point where I need to bulk?
/r/askTRP18/06/18 11:34 PM
1

I can work on the social stuff through practice. I just need to get some more confidence during the first few minutes I approach and talk with women. I get that I’m not jacked but should I be cutting or bulking now?
/r/askTRP18/06/18 11:32 PM
1

Lol I realize my shirt was meant for a larger size but I might be bulking up soon anyways. Thanks for the tips!

So just actively approach women more? But doesn’t that make me come off as needy?
/r/askTRP18/06/18 11:26 PM

You have to ease yourself into it. Hell even if you didn’t want to make that your new diet try doing one day a week where you eat close to 0 carbs. It has taken me 2-3 years to get used to my diet but it has worked and I still eat out on occasion.

Yeah I think that’s why I’ve given up trying to understand women lol

Lmao what? She didn’t want me the moment we got done. There is literally nothing more I could give her that she wanted, otherwise she would’ve asked for my number.
/r/askTRP23/05/18 01:59 AM

Oh... you know... waiting for the right opportunity. I went on a few dates and talked to a few girls. None of them worked out. Spent the last two years dieting and exercising to the extreme.
/r/askTRP23/05/18 01:55 AM
2

Lol well the question is more along the lines of “was this girl drunk enough to want to fuck me or could I have pulled this off if she wasn’t wasted”? I made no real first moves on her. She was asking me to dance and I just went along with it. Were my looks what did it or just the alcohol? Do I need alcohol to get a girl to sleep with me? It’s hard to take away stuff that I did “right” when I was just taken along for the ride.
/r/askTRP23/05/18 01:01 AM

I wasn’t exactly having all that fun tbh. Mainly cus she seemed annoyed with my lack of experience. Like even if I was a pro at it I don’t think I’d feel all that happy about something that would only happen once.
/r/askTRP22/05/18 11:26 PM
2

You’re probably right. It’s just something I feel is more desirable right now than what I just went through.
/r/askTRP22/05/18 11:23 PM

Odd because that’s all I see from other chicks my age. And these aren’t the ugly type either.
/r/askTRP22/05/18 10:57 PM

I want to be loved by someone who isn’t just a family member or friend. I sure as hell don’t want to be used for the sole purpose of getting off. Nobody on here seems to view LTRs as desirable but this is something I’ve never experienced and if it turns out that I dislike it then I’ll just go after short term flings.

Why do I need to take it as far as to sleep with them?
