Ah, yes, it was adjuncts I was thinking of. (At least where I went to school, Adjuncts didn't have tenure, but they were shared between local schools quite a lot).

Ordinarily, it should take no more than 10 years to get from the tenure track assistant to the tenured full professor. Something tells me this isn't her first outburst, and she's been taken off the tenure track for liability reasons exactly like this.

I have a friend who is a judge (retired), and he hates stupid laws like this. If there was reason to believe that this woman deserved a lesser sentencing (which TFA seems to imply), that was denied by the state law proscribing the minimum sentence. This puts the judge and the DA in a difficult position: either acquit the accused of all charges, absolving all punishment, or give the accused the entire sentence. There is no middle ground. Initially I did not think so until his partner said that she tried to hit him. As much as I dislike cops and tasers, you don't pick fights with them. That's not the way to de-escalate the tensions.
