So China is actually doing pretty good still compared to more firmly established capitalist societies. Whoops, thats sexist. I meant to say "women". This is rather pointless. The reason why women are under represented in scientific pursuits is because a research career is not compatible with family aspirations. You can take a year maternity leave in a company much more easily than at university, where's regardless of whether you are being paid, you must keep up with the latest research and publish.
