Yeah, I honestly think you can just walk up to him after class, tell him you like his contributions to discussion, and ask him if he'd like to hang out sometime. I can't speak for other guys, but I would find that level of confidence and assertiveness in a woman super attractive. It's so rare for women to ask out men that even if he'd never noticed you before, he'd probably just give you his number out of confusion (this has literally happened to me before). Easier said than done, of course, but…
