There's an expression that I like to use that I think fits here. It goes something like "you can't use reason to persuade somebody out of a position that reason didn't get them into."

http://scholar.harvard.edu/files/janastas/files/anastasopoulosgenderpenalty.pdf "Do female candidates face an electoral or financial gender penalty when running in House of Representative general elections? Results from the analyses above seem to suggest that the answer to this question is "no." Over the three decades of this study (1982-2012), there seems to be no evidence that female candidates nominated by chance faced disadvantages in terms of vote share or campaign funding. To the contrary,…

Exactly. Also, female candidates are as likely to win as male candidates, it's just that fewer women choose to run for office than men.

I don't think you get my point. The people who post in incel forums do not represent men in general, and are a small, fringy group of people, like the people over at femaledatingstrategy (before it was shut down).

Why would you check out an incel sub to form opinions about men in general? That's like forming opinions about women by visiting FDS.

I can understand why a guy might think something is up, because he's probably never been approached by a beautiful woman before. I think this will change, though, when women initiating things becomes more common.

How do couples decide what "the housework" is? I've had both male and female roommates, and there are definitely big differences in the way they clean. If cleaning issues with couples who live together aren't well negotiated and communicated, it wouldn't surprise me if men sincerely believe they're doing half the work and women sincerely believe they're doing 90% of it.

Well, reasonable people can disagree. People are going to call you a transphobe if you express these views, though.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/06/22 01:12 AM
1

It depends what you mean by that. It's one thing to not be attracted to an individual because you don't find them attractive because of some immutable characteristics like their bone structure or chromosomes or whatever. There's nothing wrong with that. It's another thing entirely to say that you could never be attracted to a person due to those characteristics. That's discriminatory.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/22 07:00 PM
1

If you're trying to make the argument that it IS okay to discriminate against people based on immutable characteristics, please go ahead and make that argument. Sexual orientation is immutable, but sexual preferences are not. Sexual preferences are fluid and change over time. And yeah, a person who says they could never be attracted to a trans person is transphobic, just like saying they could never be attracted to someone of a different race is racist. And, to bring it home, one could say that …

Ah. I don't know why they do that. To me, height is much closer to race, abilities, etc. It's just the body you're born with. ✌🏻
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/22 02:55 AM

Great! For a second there, it seemed like you were defending women who discriminate based on height.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/06/22 11:24 PM

People notice other immutable characteristics too, though, like race. And people who consider "wrong race" to be a deal breaker are generally considered to be racist assholes. It's probably best to not discriminate based on immutable characteristics like height and race.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/06/22 08:19 PM

And let's state the obvious: height is fixed and weight isn't.

Yes, I do. I've been looking for a relationship for 25+ years to no avail. I'm in my mid-forties now. I still want to get married and have kids, but it's not looking good. I can't generalize all the men on this sub. Some of them make good points and some are assholes. In general, though, they're right when they say that women seem to only be attracted to the top small percentage of men, and that many women seem to be fine just being alone rather than settle for a less than perfect man. I'll neve…

I'm not sure what you mean by "being attractive isn't paying," but I'll indulge what it is I think you're trying to say. If a person has to spend time/money/energy just to be seen as datable by whoever they're trying to date - that does absolutely count as "paying," especially if they're only putting in that time/money/energy to appease others. The effort that women put in to this is for themselves, because as I said men will accept women the way they already are. Normal women get 10x the intere…

Women generally don't accept men as they are. They won't have sex with a man unless he's spent a lot of time and effort (money) making himself suitable for her. He needs to spend time on his career and interests. He needs to spend time and effort on his appearance. He often needs to spend money to put himself in a position where he can ask a woman out on a date, and if he's successful, he is then expected to pay for the date. Generally speaking, women expect men to initiate dates, which means me…

The decline in religiosity is correlated with the ascension of other beliefs that basically fulfill the same needs as religion. So a philosophy like feminism helps its believers make sense of the world and find community. And so, it's already achieved what it's trying to achieve. It'll just keep going, to perpetuate itself. We'll see 5th wave feminism, 6th wave, 7th wave, etc. for the rest of our lives.

Get used to saying "we can agree to disagree" or something like that. Another good one is "we live in a pluralistic, liberal society, and tolerance of others is what makes it work."

So you read the above comment by AelfredRex, about how women are a plentiful commodity (4 billion of them!), and you saw me correcting that nonsensical idea with a little quick math and logic, and you decide that my comment is the one that needs a response? You're okay with women being called a commodity? Of course there are lots of women in the world. I'm not saying otherwise. Don't assume I disagree with the general point someone is making just because I chose to correct their stupid comment.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/04/22 02:37 AM
52

C'mon... At least half (probably much more) of that 4 billion number are women who are either already taken, underage, or seniors. And it's unrealistic to expect someone to try to date a woman who's a few hours drive away, let alone on the other side of the planet. To say that there are 4 billion datable women out there is ridiculous.

We'd see men engaging in activities that they enjoy, instead of just going where the women are. Nightclubs would suffer. Groups of women would go fishing on the weekends to get phone numbers.

Yes, I have read these, but I'm not a scientist. If there are similar studies that show separated twins that are completely different, I haven't found any online. It seems logical that there would be, on a planet of almost 8 billion people, but as you might imagine, it's a difficult subject to study. There aren't many identical twins separated at birth to study. From what I've read, though, scientists are often surprised and fascinated at how similar twins separated at birth are. If you can find…

I used to think "socialization" had a strong impact on how people develop. I still think it plays a part, but I think biology plays a much larger role. Anyone who's still open minded about the whole "nature vs. nurture" debate should check out studies of identical twins separated at birth. It's fascinating to learn about how similar these twins are, despite growing up in completely different societies. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/twofold/202109/twins-separated-birth-growing-continent…

Look at the way men are portrayed in media. Every joke comes at the expense of the "stupid, toxic" man. Every dad on every sitcom is a bungling idiot (except the gay dads, who are portrayed as smart). The toxic philosophy of "punching up" justifies shitting on men for humor.

Partnership has it's benefits, especially for couples who truly love each other. Life gets pretty lonely for unmarried men. One by one, people get married and have kids, and no longer have any free time for their old friends. Before you know it, your life is very different from what it was when you were young. Very lonely. Making new friends as an older man is almost impossible. I see old retired couples vacationing and having fun together and think "that looks like a nice way to spend my senior…

Modern technology allows us to live curated lives that filter out discomfort, and people in general are moving apart from each other. We're seeing this not only between the sexes, but between all sorts of "groups." It's tearing society apart. The more time we spend in perfectly curated spaces like our phones, the more difficult it is to tolerate things that make us uncomfortable, and the more intolerable "other" people become. Young people tend to spend the more time on their phones than older p…

I think it's great, and we need to normalize the idea that It's sexist to assign gender roles in dating. I'm sure there are many men who would love to be approached and many women who would love to do the approaching. As a matter of principal this is the right thing to do, even though it might complicate someone's dating strategy.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/03/22 06:16 AM

Women get emotional support from friends and family, and aren't completely reliant on their boyfriend or husband. Men (straight men) only receive emotional support from their girlfriends or wives. Basically, men need women more than women need men, hence the whole "happy wife, happy life" thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/03/22 06:05 AM
2

Why is everyone acting as if it's not sexist to expect men to approach women? How are gender nonconforming men supposed to find love if women expect to be approached? Post "me too" shouldn't we want to to see more women taking on the role of approaching/initiating?

I think in general men need women more than women need men, which leads to the whole "happy wife, happy life" thing. Young men adopt this mindset when they're dating, and it just snowballs from there, and here we are.

If the feminists of Texas want to overturn that law, they're going to need to build a coalition of voters that includes egalitarians and others who don't call themselves feminists. And they're going to have a difficult time doing that if they insist on sanctimoniously bullying people who disagree with them.
/r/AntiFeminists19/02/22 12:27 AM

I hear what you're saying, and I'm not in complete disagreement. However, what's wrong with the word egalitarian? Egalitarian is, in my opinion, a better way to say you're for equality. Part of my problem with feminism is the framing and language. As a Jewish person, it sort of feels like feminists are saying "The Jewtriarchy is the problem - and Jewtriarchy hurts Jews, too - but don't worry, the solution is Christ." The language is pretty insulting from the get go. It's sort of like saying that…

I used to consider myself a feminist too, because I also believe in equality. It's likely that some feminists would consider me to be a feminist, too, even though I don't call myself one. Before I get into it, I should say that I sincerely love women, and I want to live in a world where women have just as much of an opportunity to thrive as men. I can only speak for myself here, and not for anyone else in this subreddit. I consider myself to be an egalitarian, because I believe in equality (alth…

Yeah, the whole domestic labor argument that 3rd wave feminists make is ridiculous. Men and women are different. We like different things. We clean differently. We plan parties differently. We're different. It's okay. We should work together to find a compromise that works for both sides, rather than center the argument around women's values and then criticize men for not holding those values. It's funny how many women preach tolerance and empathy until they're asked to tolerate and empathize wi…

It's untrue to state that men have been taught from birth that female traits are bad. This "professor" is making sweeping generalizations, and fails to see nuance. The premise of this question is problematic.

Imagine a world where women find themselves engaging in activities that they don't really enjoy, just to meet and possibly court single men. A world where men do the things they like, assuming that there will be plenty of women there who are competing with each other for the attention of the men. What would that look like? Groups of women wearing waders and flannel, pretending to enjoy fishing on the weekends...you know...to get phone numbers?

I think that's because Twitter has ruined everything. The loudest voices rise to the top because engagement is what the algorithm favors, and people engage most with outrageous, polarizing content. When you actually talk to people (especially older, less online people), it's clear their values aren't as "woke" as the Twitter mob.
