Think about it, though. What do the miserable do when asked advice? Usually whatever will lead to the misery of the person asking. They're more interested in passing on their unhappiness and creating more like themselves than actually thinking about what might be best for the asking person in the long-term. Bad coaches pass on losing habits, but if you're one of their charges, how are you supposed to know the difference?

Also, look up "approach-avoidance" phenomena. The closer something is, the further away from it we want to be. The further it is, the closer we want to be to it. Human/instinctual behavior really seems to work at cross-purposes sometimes.
