How does abstinence lead to more unwanted babies? If a couple are abstinent they will not produce a baby, so I have no idea what you mean. My point was that yes, I am aware that this is an awful situation for couples who were less than careful, but that once you really try to prevent it, it's not going to happen. Surely you are also responsible for making the baby? Wear a condom. Take a class on using them properly if you have to. They are very effective if you use them right. That PLUS pulling out PLUS asking her to go on the pill/get an IUD/ take plan b and statistically you're pretty much safe. If the leftover 0.1% scares you, either get a vasectomy or only do oral/anal/cuddling/mutual masturbation.

When I worked as a waitress I was paid £1/hour less than my male co-workers. Same age, similar experience, and we were all hired in the same month. Chemical castration without consent of the individual is a terrible idea. Worse ethically than forcing someone to pay money imo. Not to try and insult you - I agree that a perfect solution that will apply to every couple does not exist and probably won't for a long time. A 100% effective contraceptive for men that is reversible (vasectomies affect future fertility, obviously) is what will fix this imo.

Legally, there's no reason why spousal maintainance can't apply to the husband of the wife had a larger income. It's not an inherently sexist law, it just tends to be applied in a way that favours women. Wives tend to have smaller incomes because they take breaks from their careers to raise children (mothers are best for infants because breastfeeding, continuing with the mother caring for them is socialisation though and makes no difference to an older child).

Not OP, but the problem is that the two negative experiences are really hard to equate. Let's assume both getting an abortion is bad (painful, often expensive, social stigma, guilt) and paying child support is bad (expensive depending on income, no control post-sex). I understand why it's frustrating, but condoms aren't your only option. Why don't you get a vasectomy, to ensure your condoms won't be sabotaged etc.? Freeze a load of your sperm, get a vasectomy, don't have sex until your sperm count is shown to be 0, get it reversed if you change your mind later within a short time frame. You may think it extreme, painful and expensive, but so are abortions.

The mother's choice is whether or not to kill her foetus (which many believe is synonymous with 'baby'), the father's choice (if he is given a choice) is whether or not to give the woman money.
