Don't worry about it too much. If it makes it easier for you to follow the conversation, look at their lips. Regarding hiking: JUST DO IT, MANG. It's no more dangerous than driving to mickey d's to get a burger, statistically speaking, and if it's something that you used to love to do, you will connect with it easier than a brand-spanking-new hobby. You've got to reconnect with it, and then it will be easier to get off the computer and out into nature. Get into mountain biking, hiking, climbing, surfing, something you can do that's outdoors-y and is doable alone (since you are in rebuild mode as far as a social circle goes). Surfing and mountain biking are dangerous to do alone I believe, so maybe not those, yet. But you get the idea.
