People that praise JD Vance or his policy in my space find themselves ejected from it. Forcefully, if necessary. Which fascists you tolerate in your space is your business. The number I tolerate in mine is zero.

It’s weird how Reddit misappropriated “conservative”. That word is literally just a synonym for “alt right people I don’t like” now. The venn diagram for "Alt-right people" and "alt-right people i don't like" is a circle. Sure I don’t think LeftWingMaleAdvocates is gonna be a conservative talking space anytime soon but it’s good to be open. I am open. I am open to pineapple on pizza, people that like crocs, people that think cilantro tastes like soap. However, I am not open to people who advocat…

Suspect all you like. There is a reason that this is Left Wing Male Advocates. Conservatives are welcome; conservative rhetoric is not. And MAGA rhetoric can die in a fire. So if you want to talk about Vance's palatable lies, you can expect to be called upon to address the toxic truth. An administration that actively seeks to hire people who say, "I was racist before it was cool" doesn't get to have "These guys care about men." Conservatives that come into this space need to do so understanding …

I made no comment on the average MRA on the right. I spoke to Tate, Vance, and those who acknowledge, condone, or accept their ideologies, or who make space for those views in the discussion. Hate has no place in advocacy or activism. And while conservative MRA's shouldn't be irrefutable thrown under the bus, they absolutely should be challenged. Right now, the biggest threat to all movements for equality and fairness is the very real efforts of the fate right to transform the US into an autocra…

Nah this was the same thing people said about Andrew Tate and MRA. I don’t think one bad apple will spoil the bunch the bunch. You know what you have when 5 good apples accept one bad apple? 6 bad apples. Because a good apple that welcomes a bad apple isn't a good apple, as they are tolerant of toxicity. It scares me that people on Reddit seem utterly incapable of putting emotions aside on these things. This isn't an emotional response. It is the paradox of tolerance. For a society to be toleran…

No. They don't. Their message isn't "men need a voice too." It's "Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work." (That is a direct quote from Darren Beattie, Trump's appointee for the State department's public diplomacy.) They're not about equality, or making space. Allowing their rhetoric into male advocacy makes it everything it's accused of being. They are not making space. Their blatant racism and sexism is just comparatively tolerant of people who are white and men, beca…

No. Just no. J.D. Vance is little more than a mouthpiece for Curtis Yarvin and the Tech bros in the process of giving rise to a a fascist state. If you want to give him credit for saying something nice, there are more than a few right wing pro male groups that are proud to claim him. You'll probably need a red hat to fit in, though. He speaks about the evils of Education, despite being a Yale graduate. He regurgitates, almost word for word, Yarvin ideologies for anti-democratic autocracy. He adv…

That's true of most positive qualities. People try to take advantage of others.

The closest I've got is a presumption that maybe you're better at fixing things, but it's not really beneficial since it doesn't come with any extra respect and just an expectation to do more work. Being perceived as being better at something can be marketed, whether in salary discussions or additional opportunities given.

I see positive masculinity a bit different. For example, I believe a great example of positive masculinity is: a single dad who is devoted to and takes care of his children. That's healthy. It's worthy of praise from anyone. And it ties into a traditional masculine gender role of taking care of others and being a provider. I agree that not all praise is given for the right reason, and that often, praise is a tool of manipulation and control. But sometimes, good job really is just acknowledging h…

It should have been abundantly clear why his post is problematic Nobody here has claimed that there aren't problematic views in that post. Nobody. Not you. Not me. Nobody. You're tilting at windmills with this one, man. even if we think this is a person trying to change. One thing can be bad and another thing can be good. Two things can be true at the same time. I have a feeling you wouldn’t be insinuating that there’s something wrong with my character if I had a problem with someone saying racist things about black people just because the person said they are in therapy I would say that if you look at opponents who are trying to work their way to allies, and you shit on them, all you'll ever have is opponents. One can acknowledge a problem, and also acknowledge the work that is being done to fix it. Two things can be true. He's beginning in his journey…

I acknowledged that his views are a problem? Listen, I am going to say one thing, and leave it at that. If you can look at a person who has a problem, and is on a journey, doing the work to overcome it... if you can see that person, and you refuse to acknowledge the work, but only look at the problem? That says far more about your character than it does theirs. Be well.

Well, yes. If I see someone training for the Olympics, i don't expect them to break world records. Similarly, if i see someone working to correct a problem, I take it as a given that they actually have that problem. And he stated that he needs therapy, with added words that made it clear he expected the reader to be coming to that conclusion... The reader would only come to that conclusion if the previous text were the reason. That previous text? Was the toxic views on men. Ain't saying the guy …

Why is this disappointing? Somebody with a sexist view has acknowledged and admitted that it's a problem, that they need to address it via therapy, and is actively working towards being better. I'll take that all day every day over someone half as bad that isn't open to acknowledging they may be wrong. The understanding that his views are prejudicial and work towards changing? For me, that's hope for a better world, one that is tolerant to the tolerant, and intolerant of intolerance.

Then he talked about how historically white women have falsely accused black men of sexual assault which led to their lynchings. In fairness, it was pretty much always the white men actually doing the lynching, so it's hard to say they didn't at least play a role in that particular injustice.

It happens, yes. That said, I believe a lot of the time people claim it happens is projection. For example, if a guy speaks about a societal problem that affects men, and the response is, "well, what do you expect women to do about it," or "that's not women's job to fix," or some variation of that defensive energy.

Demonstrating a bias based on gender to that gender or in the presence of members of that gender can certainly qualify as sex based discrimination and sex based harassment. Nothing else is needed. If I had a boss, someone in a position of power over me, that said that to me or in earshot of me, that would forever make the workplace feel hostile.

I understand that, believe me. But it's in a company's best interest to squash down allegations of sexism before they get slammed with a hostile work environment claim. I'm not saying OP must go to HR, but it would be worth it for him to know his options. It's in a company's best interest to make problems go away, as quickly and quietly as possible. That is often not addressing the problem, but instead the complainant. This is true, but I don't think OP mentioned anything related to SA. Unless i…

Also, I'm concerned about what your boss said. If she's making openly discriminatory comments about men, do you have a HR department to mention this to? Even if you choose to not do anything about it, I really think they need to know one of their employees is sexist. A couple points - HR is not your friend. HR is not there to advocate for the worker. HR is there to limit company liability. If they determine the simplest and safest solution is finding a pretext to let the worker go, they will. An…

If someone is broadly hostile to a group, and excludes one person, it's the "i'm not racist, I have a black friend" phenomena. Zootopia did a pretty good job of describing why "you're one of the good ones" isn't a compliment. If you have told her that you're uncomfortable with her broadly denigrating an identity you're a part of, and she hasn't respected that, you need to either decide if it's something you can let go, or if she is someone you can let go. Nobody can make that decision for you, b…

Asking for and getting a raise isn't abusing privilege. Advise your coworker that you have no control over her pay, and if she feels unfairly compensated, to discuss it with her employer. Literally the most you can do is highlight the disparity by discussing your pay with coworkers, which is a federally protected right. That way, she is fully aware of the unfair treatment she's receiving, and from whom.

Dude. Did you see her face? Yes. He bloodied her nose. He beat the shit out of her, especially when he was on top of her. Not enough to stop her from coming right back the instant the attack let up. She remained aware, present, and capable of reacting to changes in the fight. The fact that she is desperately trying to save face in front of her classmates with her pathetic, harmless attempts to fight back at he very end doesn't change that. That's one interpretation. /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/10/22 08:05 PM

In a fair world, there likely would be. But even there, how much is needed to "demonstrate" that you can do it can vary based on impressions. If a teacher sees someone as less intelligent, they may require every single step, whereas someone else who is viewed to be a better student might get the benefit of the doubt if a step is skipped. Teachers have a lot of authority within their classroom. And they are human, which means they are subject to biases.

Phrases like "kill all men" and "men are trash" are stated by otherwise progressive people. The only way that works with a progressive worldview is if those men are worth less, or worthy of killing. Rationalizing a group as subhuman will turn the most liberal minded person into someone who supports positively evil acts. That's often what happens within left circles with regards to feminism.

The danger of viewing a group of people as less worthy of consideration, or of viewing the harm caused to another group as justified? Even if you are highly progressive on most fronts, you can justify all of the worst conservative fear based -isms when it comes to that group. Please realize that here you are talking about the proportion of people (not quite, because you are not talking about proportions of people exaclty, but more or less) that, having had an accident, were drunk. You are not talking about the proportion of people that, while "being impaired", had an accident. Incorrect. It’s not a perfect analogy, I was making a specific and limited point by providing a counter example A poorly contrived counter example that doesn't even attempt to address the fundamental premise of the entire position. Sure. And yet, creating a situation where someone is dependent on you for life and then ignoring the fact that you are literally responsible for their dependency is still a valid example of being responsible for that life and its end. Those laws certainly show the difficulty of programming AI with human ethics. And the robot civil war was essentially "where does the line get drawn when two rights intersect". False Equivalence. I use drunk driving as an example because the actual chance of being in an accident while drunk driving is not very high. We suffer 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles driven to motor vehicle crashes. Last statistic was 0.31 of those deaths are related to driving impaired. It's vanishingly rare. Compared to this, consent to sex is far, far more likely. Like, the difference makes it look like playing russian roulette with 5 of 6 chambers full different. And yet, the extent to how…

There are lots of people out there, who, in a very real sense, depend on me, or you, or somebody relinquishing an organ because theirs failed. They are fully sapient, adult humans who will die if we do not give them one of our lungs. Did your intentional actions place that person fully dependent on you specifically for their life? No? Then it isn't the same. Your example is analogous to a situation where a fetus occurred during sex without consent. Since the entire premise of the point I am maki…

I don't know if I buy it. There are plenty of things that can be seen as "consequences" where consent is still totally a factor. You use alcoholic impairment as an example, but impairment per se doesn't give another human carte blanche access to your body. That is certainly true. But if you, while impaired, do something that harms others (or cause others dependent upon you to suffer harm) you are certainly responsible for that harm. For example: your babysitter gets plastered, and passes out. Wh…

But people can be hurt when stabbed, so I am 100% anti stabbing other people, because that if is nothing more than unicorn farts and leprechaun wishes. How does this work with a fetus? You didn't put it there. You can equally say that it never chose to be there, but that's irrelevant to the other point. The adults which consented to sex consented to the direct actions which caused the fetus to be. Informed Consent to an act is acceptance of risks in that act. Someone with HIV has sex with you without telling you? Crime. You couldn't accept the risks. If they inform you first? Not a crime, even if you contract. You gave informed consent, which m…

Under a preposterous and flawed model that assumes a clump of cells that has never been able to regulate its life processes has human rights, and that does a lot of mental gymnastics to justify depriving it of the rights that were just afforded it (wrongly), sure. But under a reasonable model that assumes fetuses don't yet have rights, and that actions have consequences, then no. Pro-choice, 100%.

So if you ride a bike, and scuff your knee, and a human being died when you put a bandaid on that knee, then I would say that their right to life trumps your right to a band aid. If you didn't have a band aid, and you broke into your neighbor's house to get one, I would say their right to keep what they own trumps your right to a band aid. The limits to which we can mitigate consequences based on our choices is based on where our efforts to mitigate them begin to deprive others of their rights.

In that case, the woman’s bodily autonomy is the same as the fetus. Not quite. If the fetus is a human, with rights, then the fetus is in a position where it is wholly dependent on another person (the woman) for life. The fetus is in that position through no fault of its own. The fetus is in that position due to the consensual choices made by the woman. Therefore, the woman's choice, made via informed consent, rendered a human fully dependent on her for life. In this case, the woman is responsib…

There’s a distinction that needs to be made. Choosing to have an abortion is taking responsibility for a consequence. If the fetus has no rights, sure. If it does, it's putting a human into the position of being wholly dependent on you, and then paying for your choice with their life. That doesn't strike me as taking responsibility. It strikes me as forcing someone else to pay the price for the consequences of your actions. Choosing to tell someone you don’t want a child and have no intention of…

In my view, not bringing a child into the world when you can't properly raise one is a "responsible" action to the "consequence" of being pregnant. In my view, if the fetus is a human being with rights, then it is a human being with rights that, without that human beings consent, was placed in a position where it is wholly dependent on others for life, based on choices that others made. Therefore, those others are responsible for the dependency they created by those choices. It is no more respon…

Being pregnant is a consequence. Sure, no disagreement there. Going through with the pregnancy, giving birth, and keeping the child is a choice, one where both individuals should have a choice in. I suppose "enduring a consequence" is a choice. Just like paying to replace a window that you break while golfing is a choice. That said, it's a choice of whether or not to accept responsibility for the consequences of an earlier choice. Do you believe that people should be free from consequences for c…

If you chose to drink to the point of being over the legal limit, and then someone forced you to drive at gunpoint, would you still be charged with drunk driving? You consented to getting drunk but you weren’t consenting to drive, which means you should still have a valid defence. This is correct. There were two actions required for the consequence to manifest. Consent for both actions would be required in order to be responsible for consequences. The “having a child” consent works the same way.…

There are a lot of reasons to assume that sex does not always lead to pregnancy. And yet, it is a known potential and reasonable consequence of the act of sex. The second act assumes a lack of consent to do the thing that resulted in the risk. If carried to the pregnancy example, that's referring to rape. Birth control is a thing, and most people use it. Most people also assume the morning after pill and the so called "abortion pill" are valid backups in case their primary form of contraception …

Yeah, but the consent model has its own problems. Consent applies to choices, not consequences. My consent matters when I choose to, for example, engage in sex, get high, drink, or nearly any other activity I choose to do. If I do one of those acts, consenting, and a consequence happens, it doesn't absolve me of the responsibility for a consequence. If I drink and drive, and hit someone, there is no defense for "yes, I chose to drink and drive, but not to get into an accident, so I shouldn't be …

You've raised good points, but there are weak points in this argument. Well most people work on average just under 40 hours a week. And after 40 hours you get paid overtime, which can be 2.5 times your regular pay. If we are going by the federal stamdard for "full time", it makes sense to go by the federal standard for overtime. A stronger position is using the 1 5 times for the federal overtime provisions. First, a conservative estimate shows that even under the worst case scenarios (for your a…

Then she needs to learn the REALITY of what the average boy or man experiences and how very different it is from the exclamations of feminist rhetoric Easy, friend. She's here. She's asking for help. She's starting down that path. There's nothing to be gained from the strong rhetoric. You're not wrong that her current beliefs are tied up in past trauma; trauma is best handled gently…

So, this might be a very strange post and if it is inappropriate please tell me. I had an abusive father and grandfathers and this was followed, you know, in the all too cliche way by some abusive partners. The abuse I experienced was verbal, physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual. I retreated largely from the world and eventually found myself in radical feminist circles and, well, let me add some more context and I'll finish this thought. I feel this. I heard a saying a while back. Hurt…

It's actually an argument that supports that trans individuals don't just think they are a different gender than assigned at birth, but that they are, from a brain structure perspective, quite literally a man trapped in a woman's body (or vice versa). Forrest Valkai on YouTube has an excellent video debunking a lot of transphobia that argues biology (he's an evolutionary biologist, so his opinion on biology is rather more informed than the layperson). It seems SO and you share some tendencies of what you identified as inaccurate and unfair interpretation of actual statements made. I don't see how. To interpret "you're great here are two great qualities you have" as "as a woman, you have ONE AND ONLY ONE REDEEMING QUALITY AND THAT IS TO BE A PRETTY THING FOR US MEN" requires filling in a lot of blanks and contradicting some things actually said. This is a common one - female value being dependent upon how pretty others find her and her other attributes not mattering in finding a partner and trying to not have that internalized into her daughter. Your comment may have triggered a tender spot that has been hurt a lot throughout her life and is still tender, so even though your comment was very benign it still could have hurt. Why can't we just call that misandry? Relevant part of previous post. This is another reason it's a harmful phrase. I've already listed "toxic masculinity" as a toxic phrase. The remainder was addressing the article using the article's language. Maybe we should start talking about sexism in male terms, and then deflate misogyny with "toxic feminity". Depends. Do you want to make a pithy point, or do you want to make an effort to be effective?

The closest runner-up was the phrase "toxic masculinity," which refers to the parts of the male identity that are bad for men, boys and everyone else. No. This is another reason it's a harmful phrase. Toxic masculinity isn't a part of male identity. It is the toxic expectations placed upon men by society. What the author is describing is the aftereffects of years of men being exposed to toxic masculinity, by both men and women. And the term makes it really easy to c9nflate the two. Toxic masculi…

First, this is a legitimate highly important issue that is going to greatly impact women. It is going to draw a ton of attention and opposition, as it should. That is going to take up a lot of advocacy bandwidth. Nobody is entitled to lord over others. Believe me, as a prior victim of domestic violence, I am fully aware of that. But people don't need to be entitled to assault others to decide to do it anyway. People don't need the right to be violent to be violent anyway. And the reality is, inserting yourself into a domestic violence situation will very often escalate it and make it worse.

Yes, if three men were in danger, one woman would be in more danger. That doesn't change the fact that nobody should be expected to put themselves in harm's way for someone else. We can hold those that do in high regard, but we should not view this that don't to be deficient. Holding that expectation is unjust. One could say these things, if one wanted to minimize the harm that ending a life causes. It's not a rationalization I would agree with. From the article: In a capitalist system, many people don’t have time to see family and maintain existing friendships – let alone create and nurture new ones. It is difficult to make time to see people when you are, for example, working multiple jobs (often with irregular shift times), commuting, caring for children and family members, and doing basic tasks like cooking, going to the grocery store, and doing laundry, sometimes all at once. Social time often necessarily gets bumped to the bottom …

It's indeed an overall bias in favour of boys but if you gender-flipped these numbers, I rather think the public wouldn't think the disparity is large enough to treat it solely as a men's issue. Honestly, if you flipped it, it would still be considered solely a women's issue, if the treatment of homelessness is any indicator. It irritates me that they can "pick and choose" what is a gendered issue and what is not a gendered issue solely based on what is convenient to their worldview. Most people…

Oh, I agree. All I was commenting on is that 13% vs 18% is a larger difference than most people think. The numbers show that on a societal scale, there is an overall bias towards boys, it's not extreme, but it isn't even in the ballpark of the egregious violators, like homelessness and suicide. Those overwhelmingly impact men more, and women are focused with resources. I am not saying you don't have a point, but if they won't talk about men's issues on issues where men are 2 or 3 to 1 victims, t…

To speak on one issue, you stated that 12.8% vs 17.7% isn't a large difference. That represents a SP that is 38% larger than DP. In other words, for every 100 parents that prefer daughters, 138 prefer sons. It's not overwhelmingly large, but it is statistically significant.

My personal thoughts (and I am keeping this tightly focused on your situation): Evading child support is unfortunately more common than it should be, and you are more than right to judge someone negatively for not standing up for their obligations. This is especially true for families with money (my girlfriend is dealing with something similar, in a purple state, an ex is living off family money and not working to evade payments). That said, child support is between him, your other parent, and t…

I looked at more than a few of the poster's activities. They typically quoted specific reddit selections (such as "hate", or "brigading"), at least when advising others on how to report things. You stated you find it difficult to show the respect that is decency to a group of people. That is a comment which ignores basic human dignity owed to all people, in favor of reserving itnonly for those who have struggled enough to qualify as having the "human experience" in your eyes. I fail to see how I could interpret reserving decency for those who have suffered in another way.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/07/21 11:02 PM

I cannot put into words how much I disagree with this. The list of requirements to have the "human experience"? Is to be human. That's it. Because the human experience isn't owned by one person or one class, and it is no more right to gatekeep it than it is to tell other men what it means to be "a man". Treating others with the basic respect of decency doesn't say anything about who they are. It says something about who you are. It is the same reason that we don't engage in cruel punishment of e…

Both are valid uses of the word. If you typically use different words to eliminate ambiguity, that's great for people talking with you. That said, it's useful to understand the other usages, because not everyone will follow your usage. I dont necessarily think respect is deferential, though. Two people can respect each other as equals. I think it's more about lending weight and authority to their views or works. That authority doesn't need to exceed what you give yourself.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/07/21 08:28 PM

There are 2 main kinds of respect. The first is respecting someone as a person. This involves basic human decency, and remembering that the other individual is a real human with real feelings. The second is respecting someone as an authority. This generally means deferring to someone's judgement. An example would be accepting a doctor's statement that you have COVID. Obviously, the second kind is earned, and the first kind is not. Where we get into problems is phrases like, "if you don't respect…

Ok, so there is a pretty strong indication that Sweden, while it is diminishing the meaning of rape, it is not applying its definitions in a gender or race biased way, and is not enacting policy that minimizes an entire demographic's trauma. Thus, it's not "going the other way", as it's applying its overly broad definition without prejudice.
/r/PussyPassDenied27/06/21 04:38 PM

Yeah, the problem is that you're bringing apples into a discussion about citrus. I.E. you are ignoring why the UK's bias is so bad. Not just because it excludes some rapes. Because it denies and silences the trauma of an entire demographic.

Several issues with your "naming one". Above, the UK examples cite the crimes that are misclassified. Your Sweden bit? Is basically "it happens, trust me". But without the list of crimes that Sweden considers rape, we cannot determine if their misclassification is unduly biased against an individu…

And in other countries the definition might be to wide. Name one. I dont deal in "might be". I have a bonified example (the UK, a developed western nation) and can point out more than one example that was true until not that long ago (the FBI in the US). If there are countries where the definition of rape is so wide as to include non rape cases in their rape numbers (as opposed to the UK, which lists many valid rapes as not rape), you can surely provide an example.
/r/PussyPassDenied27/06/21 04:04 PM

If, by law, women cannot rape men, then statistics that rely on rape convictions will exclude all those "made to penetrate" crimes as rape. And this is exactly why statistics show that women are overwhelmingly the victims of rape. Because the people recording these acts use definitions of rape that exclude women by definition. That kind of dishonesty in statistics that form the basis for future laws? Should be criminal.
/r/PussyPassDenied27/06/21 03:51 PM

What should be a crime, but isn't? The inevitable statistic that 90% of all rape victims are women, and the other 10% is made up of men being raped by men. Which is then used to justify other gender biased rape laws.

I think those are two separate issues where one impacts the other. I consider abortion rights to not be a men's issue because I have 2 standards for calling something a "men's issue" or a "women's issue". For me, it must either 1) mostly harm that gender or 2) harm most of that gender. Abortion rights don't meet either benchmark for men. It does meet both for women. Thus, it's pretty clearly a women's issue. Family court discrimination meets condition 1 for men, so it's certainly a men's issue.

Yep, male disposability and things like the empathy gap aren't caused by society or the patriarchy. It literally predates the human species and exists everywhere in nature. Not everywhere. Some species take an opposite approach. Look at lions. At birth, litters are roughly equal. Once lions begin to grow, male lions tend to be driven off by the alpha lions. This leads to a pride that is mostly female, with few males. In such an environment, the bulk of the risky jobs are taken on by females.

I do think it's possible to go overboard with the (all) feminism is bad stuff. No. It isn't. All feminism is bad. It is a toxic ideology, comprised of either corrupt individuals who exercise power, or brainwashed victims (the people you describe as not knowing any better). Now, I won't say that all feminists are bad. But feminism? Yes, that is all bad.

I don't accept any men's issues sub as a men's issues sub unless it is considered a safe space for men. Menslib actively claims it isn't a safe space for men. It is actually a safe space for women, and the only men who are safe are the ones who agree with the women that all the problems are the result of men like them and if only all men would just do more, the world would be full of sunshine and rainbows and the perfect utopia that is a woman-led society.

There is no reason for prejudice and misandry. There may be explanations, but "reason" implies "justification", and regardless of what 0.000001% of a group did to you, that is not a justification for making generalizations about the other 99.999999%. The only acceptable stance to prejudice and discrimination based on factors beyond the victim's control is to condemn it, unequivocally, and without exception. Why she feels that way is not relevant to whether she is a misandrist. She is. Knowing wh…

The premise of the Patriarchy is as follows (and I am listing each part separately, because most arguments, including yours, fail to address all parts): It is said to be: 1) a system of power 2) created by men 3) for the purpose of benefitting men 4) as well as oppressing women. Now, nobody argues the first two. The incredibly small number of people who exercise the power to create systems of power are mostly men. And systems of power do exist. But 3 and 4 aren't accurate. They are the reframing…

Is that a justification to demand everyone bigger than you run away and scatter as you approach? Or that they put their hands up and step into street lights so you can see them? Or that they apologize that their very presence strikes fear into your heart? Or do you acknowledge that those other guys have the right to exist and live their lives, and don't owe you any special treatment? Considering the possibility is fine. Criminalizing 'existing while male' is not.

The reddit employee in question is actually a trans woman, so 'guy' may be a bit misgendery. That said, the main thrust of your point is valid, though I would question why do the hiring in the first place. This is not exactly unknown information; the individual in question was removed from two different political parties overseas for unethical conduct regarding her pedophilic family members.

That's because it isnt 'far right' logic. It is an appeal to fear. Both sides use appeals to fear. A lot. Whether that be the skittles argument, or the comment by Biden that Romney would put black people in chains, or the comments by the right that Biden's gonna take their guns. Fearmongering for votes is one of the most bipartisan things in politics, sadly. Both sides are fully capable of finding that ammunition. Neither needs to have it supplied to them.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/02/21 05:29 PM

You need to read the article. I did. Women are not actually „self selecting“ more. You misunderstand the point. When a group self selects for success, it limits its efforts to those things which have the highest chance of success. E.G. only applying when they meet all criteria, as opposed to applying when they meet 60%. By applying more often, according to the data presented, men are being less selective by applying more frequently, and for roles which are not necessarily the best match on paper…

The issue i have is that you choose which of the author's statistics you believe and which you don't based on what fits your narrative. You state that everything the author says is called into question, yet you don't question at all the 18% statistic. That is held beyond reproach. But when the author cites that typically, men have a lower threshold for how many job prerequisites they need to consider it worth applying to? Calling it "good news" and "uplifting" that women apply less yet get hired more is without question sexism from the author. Which makes everything else she wrote questionable, including what you reference in your comment. There are quite a few data points, enough that I cannot confidently attribute the discrepancy to sexism. In particular, they cited that women typically apply to jobs that they meet 100% of the requirements for, whereas men tend to apply once they hit 60% of the requirements. While I am not going to place a value judgement at which method is more effective for landing the job you want, it does mean there is, in average, a qualitative difference in resumes for the jobs applied for, one that cannot…

It is certainly open to interpretation, but I generally default to 'what is the takeaway'. If the takeaway is that the organization looks bad, I only use it if it's fair the organization look bad. I interpret it as 'was not associated at the time of the act', rather than 'was never associated'. At one point, I identified as a feminist. I am not a feminist at all now. If I got in trouble, and they said I was associated with NOW, it would be technically true, but misleading. It implies that what I did was condoned by that organization. It kinda doesn't. Feminism, as an ideal, in its current incarnation, is a misandrist belief system. If we ascribe feminism to have a commonly held belief in the Patriarchy, that is. Most feminists will tell you that Patriarchy is a system put in place by men, to benefit men, at the expense of women. Men are in control of this system, and have the power to change this system, but do not (ostensibly because it benefits men). However, it is also commonly acknowledged that many aspects of the Patria…

I find it interesting that they use 'most crime is committed by men' (which is accurate and statistically backed), and then treat it as if it was 'most men commit crime' (which is not). Lies are often built upon partial truths. Have women been historically disadvantaged in some fundamental ways? Yes. Have men gotten a raw deal too? Yes. The issue wasn't supporting Amber Heard. It was condemning Johnny Depp. Providing support to those that claim they are victims isn't wrong. Crucifying the alleged assailant without evidence is. Yes, both are issues. But much like the reasoning for BLM, one is ignored and not valued by society. The stats show that, by most metrics, gender is a stronger indicator of being a victim than race. And it gets virtually no coverage, efforts, or campaigns. Of course, the racial components matter. But there are national riots and protests and a groundswell of support for that cause. The lives of men? Aren't. So that means that the real issue with unfairness in the criminal justice system is the b…

Then why stop at "blacks and men are super mega crimey crimerfaces", and look at the validity of that information, as well as the basis behind and disparities? Indeed it is multif…

Men commit a huge amount more crime and violent crime than women Have you asked yourself why? Or how accurate the statistics are? At nearly every level of the criminal justice system, men are treated more harshly. 60% harsher sentencing, all other things being equal. Because "this group commits more crime, they are crimey crimey criminalfaces" doesn't account that all a cop needs to get justification for an interaction is to follow someone for a few blocks. Behavior doesn't exist in a vacuum. So…

A lot of that increased crime can be traced to non racial factors. For example, poverty is one of the top indicators of crime, and there has been a lot of past unethical treatment designed around restricting the opportunities granted to minorities. A disproportionate number of black people live in extreme poverty. Many of the issues driving these factors are largely based on systemic disadvantages impacting these demographics.

I agree to a point. There isn't sufficient evidence to say with certainty that this death was motivated by race or gender. There is, however, a large amount of evidence that a massive amount of deaths at police hands are. 19 to 1 on gender odds. The odds of that being random coincidence on any one year is around 5 in 256. The odds of getting that approximate number consistently for the last decade? Starts to approach lottery winner odds. I am rather of the opinion that police treat everyone with less respect than they should. I just see, with respect to violence, arrests, incarceration, and sentencing, the criminal justice system fails some groups more than others. I am aware that black men are the most at risk group. They suffer from the double whammy of being in two risk groups. I just dont like that only one of those groups seems to matter. My issue is that PoC who are also men is inaccurate, as is men who are also PoC. Men of any color are at higher risk than women of any color. Based on all research I have done, the demographic of women that has the highest risk of police brutality is lower than the demographic of men that has the lowest (risk being measured by incidents per capita). There is a difference between service status, socioeconomic status, and gender. Gender is an inherent, immutable part of who you are. One cannot change gender with a decision. Caitlyn Jenner did not change gender to a woman. She was a woman. The only thing that changed is that she corrected the record. Service status is based on a choice. I wouldn't make this a left and right thing. The top sees men as a resource to exploit. It is not in the interest of the left or right leadership to promote male self worth, work-life balance, and the like because it makes the gender most exploitable for labor gains (men) less exploitable. This is because the leadership is on the top. The only difference between the leadership of the left and the leadership of the right is the means by which they attempt to exploit society.

I get not hating the player... but the game? The issue isn't that business owners are informing consumers enough to allow those consumers to make purchasing decisions on the basis of the gender of the owner, accurately assessing that advertising gender of the owner will boost sales... The issue is that society is such that consumers knowing the gender of a business owner does impact sales. It ain't about the business owner so much as the incentive that society gives the business owner.
