the happiness of the wife was the biggest predictor of relationship success. Don't give anyone cause for the devisive "happy wife, happy life" trope. "Happy spouse, happy house" all the way. Women end marriages after only a couple short years if they're unhappy. For men it was over ten years, and they were "mutual" at that point. Wow! I haven't seen this study before. That's eye-opening.

I've posted several times on here before that I used to be a feminist. Any decent person who hears about "what women go through" and the shocking statistic against them (wage gap, rape culture, etc) would be one, I thought. I felt awful that men were the bad guys. Then I met the woman who would unwittingly red-pill me through her unprecedented compassion she showed towards men. I didn't really think about it, but something definitely shifted. Shortly afterwards, I had my epiphany. I think I was …

I bloody love this sub. Y'all make me well up often. Thank you. It has been a long time, but this was one of the countless things I appreciated about my RP woman* who red-pilled me. Sometimes I'll stumble onto an old email she sent me, or will randomly remember something she said to me or did for me, and I will still feel a big dose of love seep into my bones. I haven't felt loved like that before or since, nor had I seen that kind of impartial compassion towards men demographically. Being admir…

The Honey Badgers are a group of women who campaign for men's rights. OP found a comment suggesting that their name was proposed by this legendary woman who also fights for men's issues.

The individuals and groups of women who actively seek to improve themselves and gender relations are heroic. Regardless of gender, it is the sign of utmost integrity and character. As for what women could do better, as a whole, there have been a couple of shared traits in many of them that I have noticed when counselling men and couples, and they are all inter-related: women's automatic in-group bias, which leads to the gaping empathy gap and indifference towards men and their experiences. "Wome…

One of my favourite excerpts from The Introvert's Way by Sophia Dembling: My husband and I didn't know a soul in the room. So we started looking at the... art... hanging... on... the... walls... until we were by the front door and, zoom, outta there. High-fiving occurred. Now "Let's look at the art" is one of our code phrases for "Let's get the hell out of here." We have a few codes like that, mostly developed in the party trenches.

I know exactly the kind of mother you're talking about, and I'm having a very similar battle with mine. I can't type out a detailed post right now, but I'll quickly link you to this famous book and even this tangentially-related article. I can't find my resources on emotional abuse right now, but that's definitely the term you need to type into a search engine and read into.

That sounds perfect! I hope it's relaxing and cathartic for all of you. Incidentally, there was a nice article two days ago written by a man — also with a young family — about how gardening helped him to grieve for his parents. He touches on something quite poignantly: This hasn’t been principally an endorphin-fuelled recovery from grief either. Yes, the physical effort required to build a garden (for example, shifting ton after ton of earth by hand) has delivered endorphins – but it has been wa…

I've said this before and I'll say it again: People who experience such profound loss and grief are not any stronger than you are. We did not experience our loss because we possessed more strength than you, and you are not exempt from experiencing it yourself. People who experience such profound loss and grief go on living because they have to. As my sweet friend and I talked, I realized we shared many of those same experiences. People praising her for being strong. People commending her because…

I just remembered: far and away the main resource you can use is this chapter about "the lace curtain" from Warren Farrell's highly-recommended book, Women Can't Hear What Men Don't Say. It is all about how men and their issues are overlooked in society and media. If you're allowed to use non-Australian sources, might I suggest you emphasise the point that boys don't get gendered support from schooling age. My own theory is that the reason it's mainly men who succeed in business, economics, and …

I've got heaps of Aussie bookmarks, mate. Happy to help you out. (I haven't really cared about Australian news for the last few months, admittedly, so I don't really have anything recent.) This really hits home for me. I've had this philosophy for a couple of years, and I'm over the moon to see it pay off for someone I don't even know. Well done on finding your wellspring! But, my cup was finally full. I've spent a long time trying to fill the hole with other hobbies, but nothing did the trick. I felt like the only real sources of happiness were B and a few other people in my life, and that felt horrible to me because I just wanted to be joyful while alone - depending on someone e…

Beating them with their own weapons. Ha! I just re-watched his brilliant interview with Dave Rubin, and he uses that exact phrase. The justification is most crucial, though: "I'm perfectly happy to use their weapons against them — I wish I didn't have to." And, towards the end: "The only appropriate response to outrage culture is to be outrageous." A great strategic move indeed.

he's taking a different approach to most conservatives and it works better That's exactly it. I first saw him in an interview on a left-leaning British comedy/news show in 2012, when he was writing for the Catholic Herald. He was the stark opposite of what he is now: nervy, seemingly soft-spoken, unconvincing on his assertions and hesitant on his facts. As a result, his debate opponents didn't take him seriously, despite there being credence to what he was struggling to say. Somewhere along the …

Definitely, once my reading list has shortened. Milo is at the top of my list of people whose terrific content outweighs their disliked style. But I totally understand people who are the reverse. His university appearances can often be brash and overly provocative, like his writings, but I too would definitely attend if he visited an Australian campus. It's his TV appearances, where he has to behave, that I love best. When he speaks presentably and informatively, I'm just about hanging off his e…

Thanks for posting this. I love her honest introspection and humility. The author's experience is a beautiful one, though while I can easily see her point of view, my grief journey was almost the opposite of hers. I was hoping to find something a little more poignant in the comments, but the loudest ones were the non-empathetic and unaccountable "you're his wife, not his mother" ones. They were so similar to the comments of that "She divorced me because I left dishes by the sink" article that we…

Rosie Batty is a loon. I'm sorry about what happened to her, but it seems like she's too emotionally damaged by it to be effective in this sort of public role. I'm still trying to find a Youtube video I watched a while back where someone analysed Rosie Batty's appearances in the days and weeks after the tragedy involving her son and ex-husband. The phrase has been altered in the English Standard Version (ESV), not the King James (KJV). A few important points of note (all direct quotes from the article): The translation hinges on a single Hebrew preposition: ‘el. Virtually no other major translation takes this word to mean “contrary to,” as the ESV now does. many scholars agree that the ESV translation committee has made a startling choice Some evangelicals felt that Crossway was too quick to finalize a translation they saw as polemical…

Please do not associate your cinema with the kind of people who teach men how to violate women physically and emotionally. Not only is this guilt by association, but you are flagrantly accusing the people in the documentary of unconscionable crimes of character. The people possibly "violating women physically and emotionally" are the non-criminal men whose visas were unjustly cancelled, but in the interests of equality, you would also then have to harangue every business who associates with peop…

I was worried this would happen if the film premier was publicised. I don't offer women anything that I wouldn't offer a man. This has become my new policy in recent years. I was raised to be chivalrous, but I was put off by men being lectured for being so (like in stories on this very comments page). It's a game of Moral Roulette. While walking the dog recently, I helped a very appreciative elderly woman who was struggling to put her bins out. All of this stems from a culture that just doesn't put in the effort with boys as it does with girls — often consciously. Parents and teachers decide that girls are easier to manage and raise and will invest more into them, and this is applauded by many as some twisted form of reparation. So mothers are offended at being patronised? Like fathers are all the time in advertising? If the words “dad” and “mum” had been switched around, do you think anybody would have cared? I bet it would have been hailed as “empowering.” Very valid point. [A Toyota spokeswoman] also pointed out that the campaign had been going on for more than a year and hadn’t received any negative attention until this week. Yet suddenly, as soon as it became trendy, everyone was offended (or rather, a vocal minori…

By the sounds of things, the court didn't even give her a slap on the wrist or order her to stay away from minors. Anybody who persists in that behavior is a raving asshole and needs to be censured, not by law enforcement, but by their peers. No! That is the very difference between justice and vigilantism. Justice must always be about something or someone bigger than us (God, karma, a legislated legal system) that/who has a globally wider perspective than our single limited worldview, and when an individual takes matters into their own hands then that isn't justice at all. It takes a pretty heart-wrenching headline for a non-swearer to let out an audible "oh, FFS" when reading the headline at work, but this story did it. Instinctively, this move screams of the colonisation of male spaces (this response in particular) and the erasing of [men]. Your second paragraph completely undermines your first. From AloysiusC elsewhere on this page: The restrictions on men doing this which aren't there on women, is an example of male disposability. I'm not a fan of the 'double duty' sentiment. It implies that the single parent is able to completely fill the void left by the missing parent, and I think this is dangerously misleading for both parent and child. Single parents, as heroic as they are, do the duty of more than one parent but less than two. Satirical thread or not, single dads with daughters don't get enough credit for playing the role of mum.

"Why is this a men's rights issue?" Maddox sums it up perfectly: I don't like gender being used as a gimmick. This is perfect: they've created a movie beyond reproach. If anyone criticizes it, they're instantly sexist. Nevermind that the jokes fell flat, the Ecto-1 looks even more dated than the original, the premise is absurd and they rely on slap gags--nevermind all of that. If the movie fails--it's not their fault for making a bad movie, it's the fault of the patriarchy for being sexist. Ther…

I think all the comments here have all the information you need. I'll just quickly add that I once called myself a feminist but ran away from the movement when I learned just how much of it was based on falsehoods. I know there are a number of other former feminists on this sub. It is an insidious movement that politicises gender and genders politics, with a deeply flawed "two wrongs make a right" and "the ends justify the means" mindset. I wholeheartedly implore everyone to sit down and watch a…

In my opinion, neither patriarchy nor matriarchy really exist, and never existed. Human society is simply the result of cooperation of its two branches, male and female. If the two cooperate – each in their own way – things go smoothly and everyone benefits. If they don't, chaos ensues. So feminism is simply a tool for creating chaos, confusion, and misery. Bang on.

Good grief, this might be the most deluded tripe I have ever read. This person's sense of justice has been twisted into something unrecognisable. I genuinely pity them. Thanks for the reply. A men's suit business that has a sale is marketed towards men only, but I've never seen or heard of a store banning women or children from the premises. If men's barber shops receives harsh criticism for refusing service to women time, time, and time again, then this is certainly a valid complaint. women are incapable of feeling any empathy for men [emphasis added] I agree that it's a massive and incorrect generalisation. I have had the pleasure of knowing some amazingly compassionate women. This clip shows how wide the empathy gap is. I've only been reading into men's issues for less than a year, but this was one of my biggest motivators. Yesterday, on the article of our Metropolitan Fire Brigade's 50% quota for female applicants, I said that I didn't think I'd ever been more ashamed of my state. Stories like this one aren't helping it. It's embarrassing and solves nothing, only adding to a needless and harmful "women yes, men no" rhetoric. oh there was. Greg_W_Allan posted one such response below. There was also a similar outcry when Annastacia Palaszczuk, the Premier of the neighbouring state of Queensland, called on domestic violence organisations to cater to male victims. The worst part is that those rebuttals appear on very popular media sites like Daily Life and Mamamia, which are visited by tens of thousands of women every day. (They'll often also find their way into the national news/newspaper sites, which are read by milli…

Going solely by the linked article, there is a staggering amount of incriminating circumstances against Ms Whitford: driving on a suspended and expired driver's license negligent driving FIVE minors in the car, one of whom was killed she knew the car had bald tyres she knew the car didn't have restraints for all five passengers (four of whom were children, remember, and therefore not liable) blood alcohol reading of 0.065, above the 0.05 Tasmanian legal limit (or a 0.00 limit for a learner/unlic…

Blood alcohol limit. The legal limit in almost all of Australia, including Tasmania where the crash occurred, is 0.05, so Whitford was over the limit as well as having traces of THC in her system.

Semi-related, one of the first "holy crap, I need to start paying attention to this subreddit" articles I read on here was this one from two months ago, about the UK's newly-appointed first female Scouts leader. She said that “the position of young girls and women is such at the moment that unless young boys understand what it’s like to be a young woman then you won’t get them to change their behaviour", which still gives me sickening feelings to this day. I really worry about what society is te…

I was just about to say the same thing about the military. I've read multiple reports and anecdotes on this.

Campaigns like this make me feel absolutely disgusted that I was sympathetic to feminism for so long. This is its true face.

Chris Gayle has denied allegations that he exposed himself to this woman and is now considering legal action. Fairfax Media "claimed that the West Indies manager Richie Richardson had subsequently sent a communique to all team members about the need to be more respectful to women at the World Cup". I honestly don't know what to believe. This could get really messy.

WOW. I've never heard this story before. Absolutely outrageous. THIS is sexual assault. Not what Chris Gayle did.

Nope. The money was donated to The McGrath Foundation, a breast cancer charity set up by retired cricketer Glenn McGrath in the name of his late wife.

She got the 94% figure from the stat that "94% of violence is committed by men", but has blatantly conflated that with the disproven assumption that all of the victims are women. There was a brilliant and highly-recommended article written the other day discussing this very tactic.

For what it's worth, I would have considered myself a feminist at this time last year, but after the rhetoric fell apart and I walked away from it, places like this showed me just how much I had got wrong. Every time I come here, I'm amazed at the stories and viewpoints I would have never heard because they are almost never discussed in mainstream media or social circles. I, like RyanAlready, have learned so much from places like this that I can now call out feminists in conversation with facts …

It's not that - it's that men in particular have so much to lose if they speak out against the popular rhetoric. Feminists concoct increasing stupid ways of discrediting men before they even say anything, or twisting their words after they've spoken. Someone asked Milo Yiannopoulos in his AMA how to fight feminism without without ruining your career prospects, and Milo's advice was for us to hold off on speaking up for the time being. "It's too soon. Let people like me clear the way first." Men'…

We've just entered bushfire season, mate. Right now, out-of-control fires are burning across the state where temperatures exceeded 41°C (107°F) this weekend. A strike by our amazing firefighters is the last thing we need, and I really hope it doesn't come to that.
