They were paid more than the men's team but would have been paid even more if they had taken the deal the men did when they were offered it. They took their choice but didn't like the outcome.

in fact it just finished its stockpile of Soviet tanks, and will be using its newely developped ones soon That's not at all how a competent military does things, military equipment isn't like vegetables on a small child's plate, you don't have to finish all your T55's before you can deploy your T14's, you send the best you've got as soon as you can for the sake of winning as quickly as possible with as few casualties as possible.

You may have noticed that the Democrats had President, House and Senate under their control since the Supreme Court declared the male only Selective Service registration requirement unconstitutional and yet they didn't abolish it. Just as I remind folks that the right is no friend to men by default I'll remind you that the left is no friend to men by default.

Women do have less access/confidence with to more finite ways of dying too- and less experience /access to more violent(and faster) methods of death. When you take individual methods separately men still succeed more in compliting a suicide, whether it be by poisoning, hanging, firearm, jumping off something high.

From section 4 (Causing Sexual Activity without Consent) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003; (4)A person guilty of an offence under this section, if the activity caused involved— (a)penetration of B’s anus or vagina, (b)penetration of B’s mouth with a person’s penis, (c)penetration of a person’s anus or vagina with a part of B’s body or by B with anything else, or (d)penetration of a person’s mouth with B’s penis, is liable, on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for life. 38 of the United States have rape laws similarly gendered to the UK. As the Causing Sexual Activity without Consent charge covers a wider array of transgressions than rape there are two sections to the punishments, the one that covers what would be analogous to rape isnthe same subject to life when found guilty on indictment as rape.

I've participated in the actual UK Parliament petitions (the one's the Government is legally required to respond to if they hit certain thresholds) and will continue to do so but the fact remains that, legally, it is not the lack of an indicible crime preventing prosecution in the cases in the article, it may well be a lack of competence from the CPS...

I presume you mean other than the burden of Selective Service being born only by men? The messaging around homosexuality being unacceptable is always aimed at male homosexuals, the messaging around immigration is always focused on "fighting aged men" when they want to whip up some fear.

It so very much is, the right is only your friend if you fit into their straight jacket of protector/provider so that they can exploit you for every ounce of effort for the mearest crumb of recompense. If you don't fit in they'll throw you to the wolves.
/r/MensRights16/01/26 04:58 PM

The rape law is bad, but there is at least the legally equal crime of Causing Sexual Activity without Consent which carries the same punishments. The rape thing now is mostly there as a statistics fudge. Also worth noting rape laws are similarly gendered across the western world not just in English ans Scottish law.

Aye, that's the federal level, and it's a start, but most rape falls under states' jurisdictions which is not overridden by the federal definition. The federal definition doesn't, if that's the wording, cover forced envelopment.

25% of 10% is 2.5%, that's one of the sources of the between 2 and 10 percent figure my friend, it also doesn't disprove that a rape happened only that it got pinned on the wrong guy if it did. DNA only proves that sex happened between two particular people, it can make no comment on the consensuality of that sex.
/r/MensRights15/11/25 10:15 AM
67

The simple answer is we don't know. Between 2 and 10 percent of rape allegations are proven true in a legal sense, between 2 and 10 percent are proven false that leaves between 80 and 96 percent where there is no definitive answer. Any study is going to rely on self reporting, which for something like this is going to be unreliable. It's not a satisfying answer but it's really the only one that's truthful.

My turn: do you think female circumcision should be a choice or should it remain outright banned?
/r/MensRights11/11/25 06:11 PM

In western countries infant female genital mutilation is a crime, often adult female genital mutilation is also a crime, in some jurisdictions even things like piercings are mandatorialy reportable. Infant male genital mutilation is legal everywhere, anyone who tries to ban it is called racist/antisemitic/islamophobic and the practice is even encouraged outside of religious contexts in the western hegemon.

In the West, since the end of the Second World War at least, the prevailing political landscape has been centre-left, particularly in Europe. Probably because the extreme left power fought alongside us in the bloodiest war in history against the extreme right power and the nuclear weapons prevented the sequel against said extreme left power, hence accusations of fascism carry more weight socially than accusations of communism.

What I like about Trump is that he doesn't depend on appeasement. Ah, OK, you have the usual selective memory thing. I mean he's spent the last 2 years saying the US shouldn't be getting involved with Ukraine and even at points that Ukraine should just give in and let Putin have what he wants, sounds very appeasement like to.me...

Appeasement doesn't prevent wars, it just makes them later, longer and bloodier than they need to be, even if it is sometimes needed to rearm. Putting an isolationist Putin shill in the Whitehouse will not prevent war in Europe, it won't end the war in Ukraine either because the Ukranians will fight on even if occupied and it's likely that Putin will not be satiated just with Ukraine under occupation, he's already made noises in the direction of wanting to rebuild the Russian empire.

By the sounds of what's written there the Swiss have caught up to the Brits in that now a man can be a victim of another man but that could be ambiguity in translation. The problem with the UK law is not that a man can't be a victim, legally, of rape but that a woman cannot, legally, be the perpetrator of rape (unless as an accomplice). They did invent the new crime of, "causing a person to engage in sex without concent" to cover female rapists for reasons best known to our legislative body...

The reason they call it sex without concent is because that's the name of the offence she's been charged with, "causing someone to have sex without concent" because, in English, Scottish (and many many others besides) law the crime of "rape" requires the perpetrator to have a penis. Multiple petitions to Parliament through the official channel on this have been hand waved away.

Similar to xenophobia then, the difference being that one is acceptable in Western society and the other is not. This means that while Gynocentrism comes from social adaptations, rather than conscious choice, we do not have to accept that it cannot be removed from society.

The suffragists fought for votes for everyone, the common man (who didn't have the vote either) as well as women. The suffragettes only fought for votes for women. The suffragists were nothing to do with the beginnings of feminism as they were egalitarian, the suffragettes were and still are, the poster girls for Feminism.

You are not a victim of her hate, you are the object of it as part of a group, unless you personally know that this woman has done something specifically to you, in which case snide comments on line is less effective than talking to the relevant authorities. Alternatively keep doing what you're doing, the number of misandrists will, at best, remain where it is, and you can remain happy in your self perceived lack of responsibility for any of it.

I think others have mostly covered it but I'll add the very basics, you need to remember that the person opposite you is a living, breathing, human being with wants and needs and emotions and scars and fears and dreams and all of those other types of things you have. It's really easy to forget this, especially if that person is in an out-group you have defined and this goes doubly for online where each human becomes just ascii code on a screen.

It's a (quiet) topic of discussion in the less exposed to prying eyes areas of the academy, and not just in the social sciences. Negative results, results that don't fit the hoped for outcome, "get chosen not to be published" is the phrase I've heard used and it's holding back progress.

That a discussion about Russia invading Ukraine is a place to discuss whatever slights you feel NATO has made against Russia (or others). It is, or at the very least looks very much to be, whataboutism designed to deflect the conversation away from the topic at hand.
/r/MensRights23/03/22 06:40 AM

I do agree that NATO has made Russia feel threatened quite a few times NATO doesn't have their hands clean either That's without looking at Rol9x's comments
/r/MensRights23/03/22 06:37 AM

The whataboutism of trying to claim NATO is just as bad. You're trying to both sides are wrong a conflict because the wronged party is on friendly terms with an organisation you don't like.

The long established term, used by many in the MRM is incorrect and you have absolute authority on what language we can use and on who is, and is not, legitimately an MRA? Nah, hard pass, don't come here and try to tone police, we have much more important things to do than acquiesce to you.
/r/MensRights21/03/22 02:04 PM

You seem to belive that is means ought. It doesn't. As far as society is concerned men are disposable, it's indisputable otherwise the 70% of violent crime that men and boys make up the victims of would not be overtly ignored, we wouldn't be the one expected to, by law, fight the wars, we wouldn't see the expectation to confront the violent customer always thrust upon the newrest man, we wouldn't see the expectation on men to risk life and limb to save women and children in emergency situations.…

Glad we cleared that up I think Karen Straughan put it best in response to a feminist who thinks the many blatant sexists among feminists aren't real feminists: So what you're saying is that you, a commenter using a username on an internet forum are the true feminist, and the feminists actually responsible for changing the laws, writing the academic theory, teaching the courses, influencing the public policies, and the massive, well-fu…

I'm going to guess here, based on the comments they left on one of my comments, that they think explaining how (and even accepting as fact the existstance of) society's absolutely callus disregard of the fate of men and boys is perpetuating that as the right thing to do. They have failed to understand that to combat a problem first you must accept that it is a problem and second you must determine the root cause of it. The same psychology that means men's issues are not taken seriously, men are disposable to society largely because society is the product of evolutionary forces that predate birth control, medicine and even monogamy. Short answer: best as I can tell, millions of years of evolution take longer than the few decades we've had where we've bent the world sufficiently to our will to negate them to undo. This is not just true of male disposablity but things like the urge to over indulge in fatty, sugary foods, or the urge to frequent copulation (most of us now live in abundance and with low childhood mortality). Voting, i.e. having a say in the leadership that determines the future of your nation, is the ultimate responsibility and privilege of citizenship therefore, if the nation is in such dire existential peril that mass mobilisation of its citizenry under arms is needed then it should fall to those who can vote and if that needs a draft then it should be a draft of the electoral roll.

The feminist narrative is what you believed, that all men had the vote prior to 1918 and no women did, the dirty secret is threefold in that 1) only a minority of men had the vote, 2) shock horror, even some women already had the vote and 3) the universal franchise was won not by the suffragettes (they probably actually delayed it by their terrorism) or by the suffergeists (who were the ones making the progress undermined by the suffragettes) but by the sacrifice of over 800,000 men killed or mi…

Not quite, by saying too young you implied that there was an age those men could have got to, under the status quo, that would have seen them attain the vote. That isn't true, the required level of wealth at that point gave the vote to only 20% of the male population.

Old enough to be compelled to die, but too young poor to vote. The dirty little secret of the feminist narrative of the Representation of the People Act 1918 is that as well as granting the vote for the first time to 8 million women it also granted the vote for the first time to 5 million men. The vast majority of the men killed in WW1 in the British army had no vote in and so no voice in the Parliament that had passed the conscription laws that compelled many of them to be there.

Currently the US Military is less than 1% of the population, during the Vietnam War it was just under 2%, during the Korean War it was over 2% and for WWII it was close to 9%. If it kicks off big there will be a significant expansion.

Depends how you define backwards, advocating to force the traditional roles I would argue is backwards but I'd also argue that advocating to force people to not take the traditional roles even if they want them is backwards too. Forwards is advocating do as you please, don't force that decision onto anyone else.

I've edited my quote to match your edit. As for how it got like this, politics is a professional sport these days, but you still have to be from the right social class to get anywhere in it. The media, or at least the mainstream of it, is in that same social class too. It's not quite as hereditary as the old aristocracy, though you can almsot guarantee that major politicians children will end up in politics or media, it's more ideological/educational than that.

Indeed, but replacing one bullshit list of expectations of "how to be a man" with another list of bullshit expectations of "how to be a man" is no progress, is it, we should be fighting to have no normalisation (or everything normalised which is effectively the same thing).

In your opinion, should each individual man be free to live as he wishes (and each individual woman as she wishes), even if that is in the traditionalist paradigm so long as 1) they don't force others to live a certain way and 2) the way they live doesn't cause harm to others directly (or sufficiently directly that they could forsee the harm)?

How can this be? I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I don't understand. How is it that we've seen what we consider to be right-wing leadership "in power" and aggressively doing a lot of things the left-wing don't like, and yet the left-wing have the loudest voices and are able to force individuals, groups, organisations, and companies into behaving the way they want and changing the cultural narrative? Reasonably simple; the democratic act is conducted in secret, away from prying and judgeme…

What I’m genuinely questioning is why any male would accept and go along with a narrative that hurts our kind and paints us as devils. They do it because then they can frame themselves as "better", better than the horrible men "back then". Then they can frame themselves as "better" than the horri…

Point of technicality on 1) beyond reasonable doubt and preponderance of evidence are completely different standards. I think you misascribe the motivation of those in the MRM who stand up for traditional masculinity. Yes, indeed my point was entirely built upon the assumed importance of men to the steel industry. My point is, to put it in even simpler terms, in order to do this you would have to convince the people in charge to pour £billions into a completely avoidable rebuild of the global steel industry all to prove a politically unpopular truth and run the risk of one of the other big steel conglomerates breaks ranks and becomes the global monopoly in one move.

To put it slightly facetiously the first time the power blacks out in the middle of Eastenders or Corrination Street the other women will string them up unaided! More seriously, the wouldn't be able to do it, all political power ultimately derives from the ability to apply force to impose ones will, can you honestly imagine the men of the police or the armed forces actually imposing this? Even if they got a working exception in order to do it.

The problem there is that it would be men who would have to clear up the inevitable mess and it would take us years to catch back up to where we were. Honestly, it doesn't come down to power dynamics for anyone who has a healthy psyche. Women are always going to hace the veto on a pregnancy so long as abortion is legal and they have to carry the foetus to term because it's they who have to take the risks there. That sucks if you want a child and your partner doesn't but it's just the reality of the current state of technology. Where there can be argued that there is an unfairness is that if the man doesn't want to be a father but the woman doe…

Many, if not most, jurisdictions don't count that as rape though, legally. They'll charge with a different offence, in the UK (where the study is from) the exact offence is causing sexual activity without concent for example.
/r/MensRights17/01/21 10:51 AM

The original point still stands though, why have a separate offence when the offence of rape could be made gender equal. Similar logic to the argument that Civil Partnerships were not job done for homosexual marriage rights even if they conferred they exact same benefits and responsibilities.

Last time I was tagged into a response it was definitely "covered by a charge of sexual assault which carries the same maximum sentence."

Absolutely no better in the USA, sentencing gap is similar, female teachers are still reported as "having sex with" the boys they rape, indeed some even get child support from the boys they rape. The Duluth model hails from Duluth Minnesota, the police shoot men at an alarming rate, the circumcision rate is frankly ridiculous and you have to sign on to the selective service by law. I'd argue it's worse there than in the UK.

My own self I considered my position to be both an MRA and a Femimist to begin with until I read enough to convince me of 1) the lie of the intentions behind and history of the feminist movement and 2) that my actual position would be best described as MRA and WRA as these are descriptive enough that…

When most of a set of something will react badly to a given stimulus it is probably wise to not give that stimulus to any of that set even if some won't have the bad reaction. To illustrate with a less controversial example most yellow and black striped insects will sting you if you threaten them so never threaten a yellow and black striped insect if you don't want to get stung because although hoverflies exist its it's more likely you're mucking about with a wasp or a bee.

That's why we, as men, need to be there for each other as friends and relatives and this is why the elimination of male spaces over the last 40 or so years is so insidious. Did men break down in tears in the men's bar or the working men's club, I don't know, they were all shut down before I was allowed in, but I'll bet not and I'd hypothesise that its because things didn't get to that point, why, because the camaraderie was their to deal with it before it got that far. So, with the lack of a mal…

In the UK perhaps their most successful rewriting of history is around the Representation of the People Act 1918. They have managed to convince the majority that the act existed solely to give women the vote (it didn't) that all men already had the vote before the act (not even close, it was about 1/5 to 1/4 if I recall) and that it came about because of the actions of the Suffragettes (if anything they nearly sank the act), it was enacted because the aristocracy who basically still dictated the…

I think that's an overly harsh reading of the piece; it sounds like he transitioned for his own reasons not related to how he thought the world would treat him. Now that he has transitioned he sees how the world treats men differently than he thought it did pre-transition and has the guts to admit it and speak forthrightly about that, indeed even to advocate for men's rights in that area. Whether he would call himself an MRA I doubt some how, but definitely by definition he is one.

What could possibly be used as evidence of a) the agreement and b) the deliberate misuse or none use of contraception months after the fact? Just because it is illegal to lie in court doesn't mean it won't happen, and then you have to prove it is a lie and it is an intentional one at that. Considering one of the big issues this sub discusses at the moment is false accusation you'd think you'd be aware that our system is vulnerable in that way, the only problem is that to fix such a vulnerability…

I wouldn't have quite such a hard line myself, sometimes it is more responsible not to bring in to the world another life that will be hungry and desperate. Tell me, are you one of these religious nutters who thinks suffering is good for the soul because I have some crime statistics that would challenge that.

It's gynocentric because it centres the consideration around excusing the actions of the woman involved without any consideration of the effect that it will have on the boy. The proof that it's primarily society excusing the female perpetrator rather than disregarding the male victim is twofold; firstly a similar lack of fuss is made when women groom and rape girls, secondly when a man grooms and rapes a boy it (rightly) very definitely does not get excused by society.

That would be sexual assault. Her Majesty's Government believes that, as this carries the same maximum sentence as rape's mandatory tariff, this is an acceptable state of affairs, at least based on the official response to the last petition to remove the gendered provisions from section one of the act. It is worth pointing out that this is the case with most rape laws across the world, worth checking your own local laws.

More than, given the level against women is an emergency but the level against men doesn't seem to warrant such terms. To play devil's advocate for a moment; we don't know the context here, we don't know what he's responding to, it's entirely possible that this is an admittedly less than eloquent exhalation of men in response to the usual denigration of the form, "what use is a man anyway". The intent behind his statement, which we would need to know in order to judge it fairly, could be observation (men do many good things and don't feel the need to make a fuss) or obligation (men must do many good things and m…

Presuming you're not actively doing to make them feel like they need to worry about not worrying you, there's nothing really you can do, you can't control somebody else's thoughts or feelings so just go about your business and try not to blame yourself for something that isn't your responsibility. I'd say something similar to a man asking for advice from the other end.

That system, to me, seems like collective justice which never ends well. Having an anti-authoritarian streak a mile wide that, and trying to deliberately force people (men or women) to bend to society's will in their own personal decisions (where those decisions don't directly harm anyone else) seems to me a bad idea. The only real addendum to that I would potentially add is that surely the objective is to get society to let men be rather than to enforce traditional masculinity. It's probable that the two Overton Windows have very little overlap, that's true, though I feel it's safe to presume that your actual Nazis (not saying that the Swedish party are, obviously, I don't have enough data to make that judgement) would be out past the edge on either side of the pond (though maybe not everywhere in the world).

In and of its self it's not, but there are those who would ban it purely because it's something done mainly by Jews and Muslims (over here in Europe) and not because of any moral argument about human rights. Not being overly familiar with Swedish politics I don't know if this party falls into that group but if a party falling in to that group gets a ban instituted I do fear that the campaign to overturn it will make hay turning this into an extreme far right vs everyone in the moderate middle is…

The question would be, what do you count as an outlier? Everybody dies of something whether it's suicide, genetic desease, cancer, accident, heart attack, etc. Which of those are legitimate deaths and which are outliers when defining the average lifespan?
/r/MensRights15/09/18 12:04 PM

Except that suicides do bring that life expectancy down, it's like when child mortality was a big thing in the west; life expectancy back then was 40 (or there abouts) not because people got to 40 and then died it was that lots of people died before they got to 5 years old and those who got past early childhood made it put to their 60s to drag their average up. Life expectancy is the average age at which people in a demographic die, regardless of cause, lower male life expectancy has many causes…

Not quite, the purpose of the CPS is to prosecute cases against the accused in accordance with the law, they are clearly failing at this and so the restructuring is valid. The organisation that has the purpose of impartially determining the guilt or innocence of the accused already exists, it's the Court (including the Judiciary and the juries in the trials they preside over) [legal technical language almost certainly wrong, stick your pedantry somewhere uncomfortable].

In that way it's a reaction to society focusing more on women's rights, sometimes to the detriment of men and focusing on women's issues large and small before even considering that men may need help. As with any movement there are a mix of moderates and extremists and sub-divisions focusing on different areas making a homogeneous definition nigh on impossible. …
