I'd ask you to think about what you're asking people to commit to here, and what the repercussions would be. If someone has an abortion, or if someone were to forfeit parenthood either in the case that parenting contracts became a thing or when parents decide to put a child up for adoption, I don't think most of them are just stopping because it's no longer 'fun' or 'inspiring'. There are many circumstances in people's lives which would make that the best option for the child. Whether that's men…

It's really not on you and I didn't mean to imply that, but I very much appreciate your effort. I could see the reason in banning mention of this if it were being used to argue against a woman's right to choose, but I'd hope that would be a rare case only posted by trolls. It seems absolutely bizarre to ban all discussion of men's right to choose on the pro-choice board. I guess everyone's just looking out for No1. That's quite depressing about welfare in the US… I hope people are becoming bette…

My bad, I should have researched more first. I'm surprised I've never seen a single solitary article in the press about it or heard it mentioned in political debate. Are there any organisations specifically campaigning for this one policy?

Please, have a word with our sisters 😅😂 After I posted this I found the term "legal parental surrender" but so far my preferred terms are now yours, "universal reproductive rights", and "Parenting by consent". To be fair I think a lot of the resistance to the idea comes from the US where as well as the longstanding issues with abortion access and now rights, there seems to be no social safety net (speaking from the UK without full knowledge) and I would agree it's a policy better suited to most …

To put it better, I think either parent should have the option to turn down both rights and responsibility over a child. In the case of aborting a foetus, it's commonly understood that a person has their own reasons for needing to abort, whether that's due to the foetus being a product of rape, being for whatever reason unable to support a child, or as a lifestyle choice like putting career first. I think it's understood that someone who so strongly does not want to be a parent would not make a …

There are many intersectional feminists who do believe that feminism helps men, and when it's truly intersectional I agree it should. By fostering equality and rejecting gender expectations/stereotypes I would hope that the gap in social privileges between genders would be reduced (i.e. men not all viewed as a threat, sentencing equality, men allowed to show emotion). In both MRA and feminism there are lots of people who've been dissatisfied with their experience with the other gender, and hold …

Wow, Hermesmann v. Seyer is madness. I wonder whether calling the right to withdraw responsibility for a child "Parenting by consent" and applying it to everyone would make it a more popular idea with women. There are probably plenty of women who would prefer not to be tied to their abuser by child support for the next 18 years.

Well despite being the land of the free abortion access isn't great in the US, so it might not be the best place to start. Probably better to start in a country with greater social protections, childcare etc. After I posted this I found the term Legal Paternal Surrender, but I like Parenting by Consent as it might be more likely to appeal to women, when you consider that giving everyone the same right would prevent a rape victim paying child support to their abuser.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
