I don't recommend a swingers place for your first time, it's pretty depressing for a single guy who doesn't know anyone. There's usually a cap on numbers, it's more expensive and depending on the night you may not get anywhere. Kink spaces will depend on what's allowed in them, but if you don't already have some inclinations towards kink (which you'll know by the porn you're drawn to) it's probably better to pass up for now. /r/r4r may help you meet people, along with local variants.

Challenge the views as they come up. Keep some paper and a pen handy and write down the thought or statement as it comes to you. Then, write a challenge to it. eg. "Only tall men get girlfriends" "If this were true, no medium or short men would be in relationships, yet I know <man who is short> has been with his partner for <x> years. I see the medium height man at number 35 lives with his wife and children." Over time the challenging statements will sink in and become automatic. This is a techn…

I totally agree with this. Women are as flawed and diverse as men

I want to pass on things I learned in therapy and help people recognise where they're falling into negative thinking loops, and/or fallacies. I got engaged with this area of the internet because, even though I've no formal training, I want to stop people resorting to violence and worse as a result of feeling they have no where to go. Personally I have a background in scientific thinking and troubleshooting through university and my professional career. I've made a lot of mistakes in love, includ…

A tactic is to dismantle the phrases/sentiments and find evidence against them. Examples: if dogs were loved unconditionally there wouldn't be so many abandoned dogs if children were loved unconditionally, so many wouldn't be rejected for <trait, actions parents dislike/hate> Are most love novels written by men? If so, is this because women had a difficult time getting published? What about levels of education at the time? In addition to the above, I think that the vast majority of men, women, c…

Personally I wait a while with new partners before being alone with them in a private space as a matter of safety. The only way I'd go into someone's apartment as a first meet is if I had a bunch of their personal information to give to a third party I was checking in with - I don't check in, they call the police. Realistically and understandably most people aren't prepared to do that, so public spaces only for the first few dates. You certainly should have on your profile that you're not lookin…

Lets pass a purely scientific rigorous eye over this article and see how it stands up to the scientific gold standard; peer reviewed and replicated papers. Quotes are from the article This is an article in a blog. It has not undergone peer review, and has not been replicated according to scientific rigour. It is an opinion piece with some statistics to back it up. It is likely those statistics have been cherry picked to prove a point. Digging deeper... This article draws heavily on the GSS. I'm …

100% agree, i've been following the replication crisis since the 2015 paper came out and i've stressed this point many times here. Not in this/all threads though. and you continue to cite sources you know aren't great science. Minor correction: The data is from 2007 and 2017 but still fair point. Studies need to be replicated in varied samples, still this is the best samples we can use to make educated guesses. Yup you're right I misread there. However you aren't presenting the information on th…

I'm going to pick you up on the studies you're citing because not all of them are great science, and then also how you're presenting the information. Firstly, we should be aware that many psychological and sociological studies are not reproduced at all, whereas all studies in all science fields should be repeated and should produce the same result. This got to the point that a special study was set up to replicate 100 studies published in 3 journals, with 97% of those 100 studies having statisti…

I can assure you that women and men love men of different shapes, sizes and economic backgrounds. Think about your parents, grand parents, their friends. Those you work with.

If the rhetoric was true, men who were not tall, or not muscular, or not rich would never be loved or have sex. Looking around at society says that this is not the case. These non-buff, short or medium height, poor or good financed men in committed relationships are not one offs, there are a lot of them. Even if it were, staying muscular or rich is not a given for life. Disease, misfortune and disability can happen to anyone at any time. Many studies about psychology and sociology fall short of …

Just want to point out that "higher risk" in the linked article is a bit misleading although true. Some of the higher risks are doubled, but that risk is still less than 0.05%

Caveat: I'm not a medical professional. I'm speaking from my own experiences of mental health problems. A lot of the kind of problems you may face are going to depend on how you feel about being single. If you're very happy being single, don't feel lonely (i.e. have adequate friendships etc), and have an active, healthy lifestyle you shouldn't have much in the way of adverse effects - meaning a baseline of whatever the genetic and environmental maladies have concocted for you will come your way.…

There is some evidence that early humans lived in small groups where they were serial monogamists (Behave by Robert Sapolsky). Kids were raised in this group but the father of a child may be different between siblings. We've no way of knowing if these groups saw this as an injustice or betrayal; it may have been acceptable and the norm. It's worth remembering there are a lot of ways different relationship structures work around the world, and monogamy is just one of them. Many of these structure…

To me it's only a problem if there's not a reasonable explanation for it. Being a student is a perfectly good reason to live with family. As is the local housing market being very expensive compared to wages, having care responsibility for a family member, getting their lives together after a big breakup. All in all, there's good reasons to be living with family at all ages of life, but nothing beats the freedom and privacy of having your own place.

Well done for maintaining boundaries and sticking to your decision. I really don't get people who treat servers that way, let alone those also in the service industry.
