Peaceful. There is no better word for it. Once you realise how many things you are doing, consciously or unconsciously to appease women you won't believe the relief you get when you stop. Happiness comes from within you, not from the people you're tied to. Don't make the mistake of thinking that you need to be in a relationship to be happy. We don't have enough information to give good advice because the world is more complicated than can be summarised in a Reddit post. However if the only thing keeping you really is your child, and that child is nearly an adult, then once he turns 18 there's no custody or restrictions to be had.

Either pick something broad to leave the door open to specialise (not too broad that you're too far from being useful) something like construction or electrical work. Something where you can decide what you want to do later. If you want to go specific then make sure you pick something in demand with the skills you can get yourself, otherwise you'll be sat around all day.
