Thanks man. I really do, the tough part is working out if someone is worth caring about.

Yep. We're at a significant amount of time where I'm wondering if things will improve (though they seem to be things surrounding basic principles, not fuckups that are easily dealt with). But not so far along that cutting my losses would be some kind of life altering disaster. I'm adult enough though to genuinely understand that would suck though, god, I only have a taste of it. I've no idea how I'd be able to deal with a loss of assets and whatnot.

Actually in her case I'm not, it's just that what she affords easily, I have to put a lot of time and effort into just to be on a par that she basically sets. Examples: Going on holiday? to me, this means months of saving. To her it just means squirelling away some allowance money and maybe, at best picking up a part time job she'll complain about. Want a weekend away? To me it means time off work (lost money) as well as the money spent on whatever the activities are. She's actually good at payi…

This is the other half of my rant, really. Girls who know I'm in a relationship, and are often in them themselves. It just makes me rethink things. I mean my own relationship obviously isn't dreamy anymore but theirs appear to be going well. And they still have their girlfriends cheating on them.

Thanks dude. This is where I'm at right now and I can feel the few rational synapses in my brain saying 'get the fuck out and stop throwing more effort into this than you've already wasted'

Yeah, for someone who has suggested polyamory she's incredibly jealous. I've got female friends and colleagues who she's stalking via social media because I've said things about admiring their work ethic, things like that. Not even saying anything to do with attractiveness. It just smacks of immaturity.

Think about it real long and hard dude. You'll find that that relationship is not the place to be for you. No relationship is. You're right, and thanks for the kind words. Yes, the sex is great but definitely not worth the terrible things she's able to say easily.

"Especially when I know that if/when she cheated on me, that guy would be treated so much better than me and get all the passion " This is something I'm suss about in my relationship. I'm there for the support, the hard work, the many down times that she's had, even though her life is much easier than my own. She still has brought up wanting to sleep with other people in the future, for both of us. I don't want that, and of course it's a source of tension when it is actually a reason to walk awa…

re: the good old days -- previous relationships seemed much warmer than this. As in, I've had much more supportive and kinder relationships than this one and still ended them for good reasons. What's different here is some kind of abuse cycle that has sharpened me to the point of seeing relationships so awfully. The terrible comments within the relationship, and the lack of fidelity in the examples outside of it are working in tandem to shit on any previous notions of romanticism I held.

I'm actually the kind of dude who strives to defend something until the last, but the penny has certainly dropped. My friends are all saying the same thing. How many signs do I need, etc. and getting less and less guarded about saying so. It's really sunk in, not just a relationship advice moment but something far beyond that, a decision to be very, very careful about who I associate with and why.

Thanks dude. This is all very reasonable and pretty much where I'm at.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
