Iirc you can't file bankruptcy to get out of a specific debt, or maybe it's that some debts stick with you regardless of bankruptcy. Don't take my word for it, I've never really needed to pay attention to how bankruptcy works.

What threw me off was the quotations used for passive-aggressively emphasizing "friend." I interpreted it at first to mean "Friend," implying that they were in fact not simply "friends" at leading me to assume they were female. The post makes more sense reading it as You know, the kind of thing a friend would do. and now leads me to assume it's a male. Thinking on it the male assumption feels more natural because to make a female assumption you would have to jump to some conclusions.
