I would flip my shit if this happened to me right now. We've been without heat and hot water for a week. Thankfully, we would never do this to each other and actually work as a team.

I wonder how that works... If the father were to raise the child, would the mom have to pay child support? She doesn't have to pay when the child is adopted.

NAL, but I will bet dollars to doughnuts that there will be no complaint filed at the arraignment (court date coming up in a few days) Everyone knows that according to the Duluth model, men are ALWAYS the abusers. I'm surprised you didn't get arrested for grabbing her neck.

I've been to that barbecue. It's not good.

Old fashioned? When you turn 30 and your crystal starts flashing red, it's time to report to carousel... Be strong, and you will be renewed.

Don't act all surprised when your doctor has you fill out a release of information (ROI) so they may keep your probation officer updated.

Doctor, therapy and medication sounds a lot like treatment. I'm also fairly certain that PIPEDA will not grant you the same rights when it comes to the doctor and your probation officer.

I'm not familiar with Canadian law, but it sounds like anything including mere accusations can be disclosed. Do you have to complete treatment classes in order for the charges to be dismissed at the end of probation?

Pretty sure OP is from Canada...

From my experience, probation is just an installment plan. You should also familiarize yourself with Claire's law.

I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of a life changing injury. Broke my back last year and had to have emergency spinal fusion surgery. Didn't have workman's comp for myself. I've been beyond broke to say the least, but still managed to uphold our arrangement where I send boxes of fresh seafood for our kids as my daughter is allergic to basically everything except salmon and halibut (according to the naturepath) it was hard this spring because I wasn't able to fish last year and had to rel…

Can confirm. All I wanted was a phone call.

You didn't go to trial, you took a plea deal. You have now been convicted of a violent crime that will have serious repercussions.

When my ex wife started throwing punches, they took ME to jail.

Everyone says congratulations to an expectant mother... Nobody even tries to pat dad on the head and say "good job" haha

It's a joke. They only enforce stipulations against the father while the mother is allowed to commit contempt of court with zero consequences. That has been my experience.

I guess I just missed the part where op said "I fucked up OMG I am so sorry honey. You were absolutely right about putting these plates in the oven. I know you liked them a lot and I should have listened to you when you said it was dicey putting them in there." Oh, it's because he didn't say that. We gotta own our own shit. Take accountably. Be the example.

Sounds like this all could have been avoided by simply purchasing a serving plate that was designed to go in the oven. The plates belong to both of you, but we all know that she picked them out because they made her feel happy. She had expressed doubt about putting them in the oven, but you knew better than her and ended up breaking one. There are quite a few items around our house that my gf cherishes, even little stuff that I think is silly like a couple of those overly large stainless coffee …

Really wish the law saw it that way... I was getting slapped in the face repeatedly while literally trapped in the corner of the kitchen, I figured a bear hug was the best move to make it stop. Guess who went to jail?

How? We just had a hearing. Judge was only concerned with financial responsibilities. I told her I asked for the hearing because our situation had drastically changed and justified a hearing. Judge said she didn't care about any of that, only how much money. Well how the hell are you going to figure out what I should pay BEFORE we establish things like custody and visitation?

It was a telephone hearing and I can't believe it was legal. I was like "your honor, how can we determine financial responsibility without addressing visitation and custody times?" I submitted my last three pay stubs which averaged $30/hr and 35 hour work weeks. Judge says "ok, well $30x40 equals $1200 weekly times 52 weeks means you make $62,400 yearly. I'm in the construction field so it's not always constant hours year round. This happened in the springtime when we've got projects and are qui…

Hmmm, they didn't check my taxes at any financial responsibility hearings... The judge just made up a number based on an hourly wage and it was 50% more than my highest income ever.

You know what, I sincerely apologize. I'm really salty about my ex moving to a different state despite the child support order stating that she can't move more than 60 miles away.

How are you paying your salary? If your business is taking off a CPA is worth every penny.

I think it really depends. If OP is suddenly claiming he makes 1/2 of what he did before for his W2 employer, but driving around in a new flashy car then it's probably not going to go over well. If he pays himself the same as he was making before or better, then it sounds reasonable. Again, it all comes down to protecting the corporate veil.

That's tough talk coming from someone who wants to move to a different country before their child is born to ensure the father won't be around.

Also, don't fall for any scams online getting the EIN number. It's available for free from the IRS website. Any URL that doesn't end in .gov is most likely a scam

Depends on how badly you've "pierced the corporate veil" If you haven't been keeping your business' finances separate from your own it will be difficult to swing in court. You need an EIN number from the IRS and a W2 for yourself as an employee. A company bank account allows you to issue yourself paychecks.

This is how they feel in Oregon as well... I was hit in the face with a cup of coffee and slapped repeatedly by my spouse right after we got married in the summer of 2012... While at my mother's house! The police arrived and I tried to play it off like nothing happened when the officer says "oh really? Because you've got handprints all over you." She was arrested but the district attorney dropped all charges. Fast forward to Christmas that year, I get screamed and yelled at for being tipsy and n…

And I'd bet good money that when the authorities arrive, you'll be the one going to jail as well. I've seen it before on more than one occasion.

Sorry I have been away from Reddit for a while. Check this out it was so crazy! So I have her talking to this fictitious guy... I'm trying to lay on the charm and win her over whist she thinks its someone else. What does she do? She calls me, her husband and says she wants to meet for lunch...
