Education in practically every developed country seems like it's being turned into a McEducation where kids are taught a certain set of content without teaching actual critical thinking skills or problem solving. I was going to argue, but you actually kind of have a point. So then I'll concede that some of that burden should be on the spouse to give the other a fair amount of money- but there should be much more of an emphasis on it being very temporary. Seems like you hear* pretty often of someone having to give alimony for years, and that feels wrong to me. But this is all anecdotal, and I'd really like to see some statistics on the average length of time alimony is paid.

Isn't that what all of our social welfare programs are for? After a divorce, why does the other spouse have to be the one to take on this responsibility? We have unemployment benefits, disability, food stamps, and probably a slew of others that are state-specific. Why can a spouse (man or woman) not just apply for the ones applicable to their situation?

So you think someone who is divorced deserves the future earnings of the other spouse? That just doesn't make any sense unless in very specific contexts where the couple started a business together and only one is retaining ownership after the divorce is finalized. That is, by definition, a sense of entitlement
