Are there any studies that you're aware of that discover what would deter young adults? I'm not aware of any. I wonder if a. We could run that study and b. If people would have the stomach to follow through on policy based on findings. I know that in certain communities, like black communities, perpetrators are overwhelmingly young males. What do you think if the most egregious crimes carried more weight? For example, if a 13 year old steals a stick of gum, we don't try them as an adult, but if they perforate a homeless man, we do? I guess your point (please clarify if I'm wrong here) is that the justice system as it exists should deal with the perpetrators, and that you wouldn't change or do anything different from what the existing justice system would do. That precedent should dictate how the perpetrators are dealt with. Am I off on that?
