Same. Every time I think I've found a good one, he's the same emotionally avoidant, commitophobic guy, just in different packaging. Clearly I need to go back to the drawing board in figuring out what lesson I need to learn in order to identify them better :/

How women can be 100% reliant on a man is astounding. From a self-value standpoint at the very least! The divorce rate is through the roof and with dating apps, men are being dodgier than ever. I'm about to buy my own apartment for my dog and I and the future will be that either a potential long termer can move in with me (in which my apt will be heavily tied up in contracts, so that he can never take it from me), or I will move in with him, but I will rent out my place. AND I will always have m…

Ugh right?! I always swipe left on tradies (I have a joke with my housemate that if they don't have direct reports in a corporate world, I'm not interested). So I can confirm that the professionals are just as bad. Like it's actually astounding how much they love to lie, flake and just not put in any effort. I honestly rarely date Aussies for this reason and tend to go for the expats.

He broke up with me out of nowhere (even though I always put up with his criticism, anxiety and depression and bent over backwards for him) after meeting his extended family and friends overseas coz he 'realised he didn't want kids after all or to settle down' after living together for 8 months. I always forget that LVM move and focus on the stuff I miss.

It's funny that this was posted today. I wrote here worried that I met a guy through mutual friends, who I was worried that I wasn't 100% physically attracted to yet. And this post has made me realise that that's not it. I just don't feel that anxiety and butterflies that I normally feel when I'm overly keen on a guy. It's early days, but so far I've felt comfortable and safe with him, basically straight off the bat. An interesting change.

Yeah that’s how I feel with this guy. The conversation is great and he is in the same industry as me and is senior level (not easy to get there), which I find really attractive

That’s relieving! I would say there is some small spark, coz I’ve definitely been ‘complete no’ on a lot of guys in terms of physical attraction and I’m not ‘complete no’ on him, so I am definitely going to see where it goes. Also I get butterflies when a guy that I like kisses me, so if I feel something when he kisses me, I think that’s when I’ll know!

Totally hear you! My issue is my past attractions. My friend literally told me recently, 'you're attracted to guys who aren't good for you,' so I'm not sure if giving this guy a chance is 'settling' in my instance, as I think who I tend to be straight up attracted to are often emotionally unavailable LVM!

Omg it's the worst and I'm sure there is some psychiatric science behind it. It's why I'm seeing where things go with this guy. The immediate attraction/anxious obsession style I usually have has led to success a total of 0 times, so that's why I'm willing to see where this goes! Typically I'm 'immediate yes' or 'immediate no', so I at least TRY to explore when a guy sits somewhere in the middle.

That's so good to hear! I noticed that when I'm straight up attracted to a guy, I tend to ignore his red flags in favour of the chemistry. I feel a lot more level headed about this guy as I don't have the immediate, 'wanna jump his bones' feeling, so hopefully it develops. I know that when my Mum met my Dad, she was NOT attracted to him. They were friends for years before they got together, so there's hope!

Nah it was in California moving from New York

Definitely not. He was very aggressive with other sexual things that triggered me from when I was actually sexually assaulted, so I never spoke to him again after that night

Absolutely. Although I was living in New York at the time, I moved over to California for my ex (after having to go back home to Australia due to visa issues). So while I was technically 'living' in the country already, it took a lot to go to his side of the country and I didn't know anyone. He 100% did not appreciate it and would constantly gaslight me, emotionally abuse me and physically on 1 occasion. I finally saw the light of day after TWO YEARS in a shitty job for the visa sponsorship and …

Point 5: Break Up Out of Space. Words that could have been right out of my ex's mouth. Ouch.

Definitely agree. They’re also courteous and like to pay for the first date (from my experience anyway). Australian men nickel and dime you, which is ironic since the pay is so much better here 😬

Southern California and New York. Although I met my second ex when I moved back home to Australia. He was originally from Colorado

Me now that I don’t tolerate bs anymore. I couldn’t believe how many LVMs were loitering in my life and feeding off my former low self esteem.

Ugh I know!! I’ve had 2 serious relationships and both were with Americans. At least they opened doors for me and were overt about being interested.

I am from Australia and lived in the US for 3.5 years. I actually thought the Americans were a refreshing change from the Aussies. Can't believe how much Aussie men lie, flake and put in 0 effort. They make American men seem amazing :/

OMG what is with the ethically non monogamous bs as of late?!

Agree. My ex and I split for foundational reasons, but our first date was a proper dinner date and then we went to watch the lights show outside the Sydney Opera House. I'm always so afraid to ask for a proper date in fear that there is no chemistry. Should probably just not go on the date at all if they haven't at least piqued my interest in some way prior!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
