2	Separated to divorce You can get a lawyer and use him/her for counsel but not for the actual divorce. An attorney will know your state's divorce laws and how best to leverage them. 2	Mediation Rundown/Advice Jumping in late here, but thank you for the post. My STBX and I have agreed to hire a mediator and no attorneys. We've already split most of the cash assets, and there are no kids. It's all a negotiation over alimony. This whole thing, for my STBX, is only about money and blame. 2 questions: Should I have an attorney in the background anyway? And do either of us have to sign anything that day?
