In my opinion you will come off a bit creepy to girls if you ask them in a date straight away. This may not apply to all girls though(does anything?) . Also establishing a connection past the small and probably menial conversation you had with her re assures her that you are interested in seeing her again, in some form. If she tries to avoid you when you get close to her don't do it. Be smart and if you mis interpret her signs and she says no or stops you, it just shows her how much confidence you have.
