There is definitely a term issue, I agree on that but I do not think "toxic masculinity" was created because they did not know the right terms. In today where everyone is either a victim or an oppressor, the term frames men as an oppressive force on women and on other men.

The term is simply made up. In this context, I believe motive and behavioral expression are important. There is nothing masculine about emotional repression. "Men don't cry" is usually said, with positive intent, to teach young boys resistance and emotional strength. Strength to persevere and lead others through difficult times.
