Yeah, thats the exact problem here. Courts wont have a very easy time. If the law is kept it needs to be concretized and refined more over the years.

Thats good. Props to Hillary Clinton for that position. But i still have the impression that different parties of the political left in Europe (or the the political left in general) have more mixed feelings about that. There are certainly opportunists who understand that a military or militia is necessary to some extend but dont want women to participate in that contradicting somewhat the progressive ideal of equality in that case. The political right picks this up and sells it as double standar…

Just to be clear: I am not in favor of mandatory conscription for women. If war happens women will have a bad time too. There so no winner or loser in that case. But the post was about legislative „discrimination“ against men. It can be debatable if it can be considered discrimination but you are out of the working live for 6 months (or 9 months if you are a pacifist). Its pretty equal to pregnancy of women but a woman can at least choose most of the time to get pregnant if the sex is consensual…

Technically true. But you have to do either basically military training for 6 months usually after you finished school or make 9 months of social work like in medical care centers. Currently it is discussed to make it longer.

I live in Austria. Should be civilized enough. We have mandatory military service for men only. So if a situation occurs where soldiers have to fight for whatever reason (not only war but also helping during climate crisis events like flooding) men and women who volunteered have to be ready. Also being forced to carry a child does not happen here.
