There is a lot about detachment from outcome, and stoic like thinking in Hindu and yoga philosophy. In fact, one of the central teachings in the Hindu holy book, the Bhagvad Gita, is this: You have the right to work only but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive. Nor let your attachment be to inaction. I am an atheist myself, but I find real solace in this kind of thinking.
