It sucks that this is the right answer. It's time to grind. Forget about women and get money and improve yourself (speaking to OP).

If you're an avid comic reader, this won't shock you at all.

Generally, it isn't. There are probably a few exceptions. Stick to grappling martial arts or at least go to a place where they spar 100% a significant portion of the time. If the instructor doesn't spar, you're looking at a fraud more often than not.

You sound like someone who trains a "real" martial art and doesn't actually spar. If you are throwing air strikes to the groin and fighting multiple attackers, you might be in a mcdojo.

Ha! The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Exactly. That's why I got all annoying and pedantic. The reason you thought Sambo had heel hooks is brilliant marketing by one prominent individual in the grappling community.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs. The main difference as compared to BJJ is that you are allowed to reap the knee while doing ankle locks. Non-sambists don't realize that heel hooks and toe holds are illegal. So you will see sambists utilize the straight ankle lock and knee bar more often than a Jiu Jitsoka, but it's still not considered a Sambo style of fighting to attack submissions. They prefer the throws. /grappling nerd rant

Sambo doesn't emphasize leg locks. This is a pretty common misconception amongst American submission grapplers that don't train sambo.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
