| 1 | Dear feminists, I've lost track of where we stand today. Are we still deriding men as evil overloads and need laws to help protect and empower women? Or are men falling behind (because of those laws)This seems like it would be better suited to /r/MensRants. It's obviously not geared toward actual discussion. | /r/MensRights | 21/04/13 03:37 PM |
| 2 | Should feminists be included on discussions of rape or ipv? You're right, it's up to both (or all) partners in a relationship to make sure everybody's on the same page. I'm not saying that reaffirming consent needs to be explicit, "Is it okay for me to do X now? Yes? Okay." That would definitely kill the mood. I meant giving the other person time to see and know what's happening so that there are no unpleasant surprises for anyone, and watching for any "back off" signals that arise. | /r/MensRights | 21/04/13 02:43 AM |
| 2 | Should feminists be included on discussions of rape or ipv?The issue is that some people are really awful at reading signals, "actions" can be extended to include things like how you dress or staying at a friend's apartment, and open communication is always better than just assuming something will be alright. In fact, good communication will make almost anything better. | /r/MensRights | 21/04/13 01:44 AM |
| -2 | Should feminists be included on discussions of rape or ipv?I think it's more useful to define true consent first. Not present when your partner's under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or unconscious, needs to be granted for each different act and constantly reaffirmed in general, and so on. | /r/MensRights | 20/04/13 02:29 AM |
| 2 | Should feminists be included on discussions of rape or ipv?I can't imagine someone who suggests that being taken seriously in r/feminism. It also contradicts what was said in OP's post, which is that most feminists and MRA's agree that rape is wrong regardless of sex. | /r/MensRights | 20/04/13 02:21 AM |
| 1 | Enliven project and why Laci Green can go fuck herselfThat video title is rather venomous. I quite like Laci Green. She can be crude, but overall I think her channel is a valuable resource to link people to for a number of issues. (Slut shaming, gender identity, what have you.) | /r/MensRights | 24/03/13 09:38 PM |
| 3 | TIL that in Maryland you can cheat on your husband and still be awarded alimony during a divorce.Yes, impartial. There's a formula used that's exactly the same no matter what the sex of the person who bring in most of the income is. The actual amount said person has to pay can be outrageous, though. You can also come to alternative agreements that are then approved by the government, but both parties have to agree to that. | /r/MensRights | 03/02/13 05:05 PM |
| 3 | TIL that in Maryland you can cheat on your husband and still be awarded alimony during a divorce.I agree that the situation in the original post is ridiculous. I was speaking in general terms in response to some of the comments here. | /r/MensRights | 03/02/13 04:53 PM |
| 5 | TIL that in Maryland you can cheat on your husband and still be awarded alimony during a divorce.Legally speaking, here at least, personal issues like affairs are completely irrelevant to paying spousal support and especially to paying child support. That goes for both men and women. The courts simply do not care. Personally, I like that. It's impartial. | /r/MensRights | 03/02/13 07:37 AM |
| 2 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupid"Is interracial marriage a bad idea?" That seems to be asking whether it's a bad idea for everyone, not just the person in question. | /r/MensRights | 03/01/13 12:34 AM |
| -1 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidYou are a racist. I was just saying that more context is necessary to keep their comment from appearing racist, which is the default when you state a controversial opinion like that. I thought we were having a reasonable conversation up until now, but I guess debate's not possible at the moment if you're resorting to wild comments like that. All the best! Maybe we'll find ourselves on opposite sides of another conversation sometime. (Or even the same side. :) ) | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 09:21 PM |
| 1 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidJust noticed your username. Are you author or the article/owner of the linked site? If so, I'll adjust my wording accordingly. Sorry for not noticing sooner. :) As I said, the argument that it generalizes men is pretty weak, since it seems it's written specifically to address people that already agree with the writer and have experienced something akin to what's described. The article most certainly generalizes women, which I don't consider any better. (Hurrah, gender equality.) It's a little di… | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 09:10 PM |
| -3 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidI'm criticizing the opinion itself, so again, where they state what they think is irrelevant to me. Context is certainly important. Perhaps the men in question are against interracial marriage because they believe that it will lead to a loss of culture, or they were misinformed about some aspect of it. That would be context. Their opinions still seems racist without that extra information into their views. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 08:54 PM |
| 3 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidI think being nice implies to kindness toward all sexes, and all people, not just women. You can include animals and being a friend to all living things in there as well, if you like. (Except mosquitoes. Screw mosquitoes.) It's for the sake of being a good person, not benefiting yourself. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 08:41 PM |
| 0 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidI suppose the argument that it generalizes men is weak. I was mostly referring to the fact that the author seems to believe that all men who support a woman emotionally are doing it to demonstrate their capabilities as a partner instead of doing it just because they like her and they're friends. And yes, I do believe that man and a woman can be friends without expecting more on either side. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 08:35 PM |
| -1 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidWhy does it matter what venue they use to communicate their opinion? They're indicating that they don't think people of different races should intermarry. The place they say that is irrelevant. If a person believes one thing, but lies about it publicly, then that doesn't change the nature of their true thoughts. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 08:22 PM |
| 1 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidThat entire article generalized both women and men, rather scathingly. Whenever I hear the complaint that "nice guys never get girls", I start to wonder how many people go through a life where none of their nice friends ever get girlfriends, no female they know is dating someone normal, and everyone they know has a terrible person as a father. That sounds like a pretty messed up world, but it doesn't match my own. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 05:19 PM |
| 7 | A tumblr dedicated to humiliating and demonizing self-described "nice guys" on OKCupidI would say that it only matters when the person is against other people having an interracial marriage. Somebody who's only attracted to their own race just has a preference. Somebody who is against other people having partners of a different background comes off as racist. | /r/MensRights | 02/01/13 05:02 PM |
