I ain't saying Gillard had a good system for ministry (as you explained, far from it), and Abbott has appointed SOME women into some positions based on what we assume is merit. As much as you can say "All these ministers were chosen based on their merit", I can equally say that all these women being appointed to be assistants to ministers are not for experience, but to appease the public by giving more, non-key, positions to women. I'm not angry about Abbott being PM per say (a tad angry, but then again I was also angry that Rudd thought right before an election was a good time to throw the Labour party into turmoil), I'm more angry that he's barely into the job and he's already managed to minimize things that nations with high standards of living put first (that being education, research, resources and energy, climate change etc) and put in a border protection minister. As an Australian with very little shits given to any sort of activism (woooo, lazy!) the fact that Tony Abbott only elected one woman to cabinet is fucking pathetic.
