Now, hold on. There are other causes to this. What does it look like in females? Because of increases in funding in subsidized loans, universities have begun accepting more students. So, more students have enrolled. Assuming they had already only been taking the most likely students to graduate, anyone who enrolled because of an increase in funding was already less likely to graduate. Wasn't it pretty much based on his experience in WWI? We wouldn't just be rewriting a book - we'd be re-writing history. Also, look at it from a cinematagrophy perspective: given the culture he created (and lived/grew up in), women would not be willing or necessarily welcome to make the journey. If it were set today, it may be a problem, but it fits the artistic style of the movie.

This, like any act of "chivalry," is something that is commendable to do. However, this does certainly not mean every male has to give up his seat, pay for dinner, etc. at every opportunity. Just like a woman cleaning up after a man, making him dinner, etc. is a very nice thing to do, but not something she is obligated to do.

What these men did was incredibly heroic, but that doesn't obligate me to do the same thing. I'd like to say I'd do the same thing, but I would never know until I was put into that situation. Their actions are certainly morally praiseworthy but not morally obligatory.

I had a conversation with my girlfriend about the same thing. I really want to see that 77% study. Is it across all occupations? Or is it an average across all occupations? Why don't the laws already in place stop this? She of course saw my point and dropped her argument, although I conceded that if it were what they were trying to make it sound like, it would be a problem worth addressing.

I don't think men or women have that big of an advantage over each other. Men get to be considered more attractive with age; women are able to use their bodies as a source of income (I couldn't get away with those low cut tops looking for tips). Men get paid slightly more; society tells us men are to buy the drinks, dinners, movie tickets, etc.

Oh, stats. t-tests took some getting used to. The only horrible thing in two quarters of stats was ANOVAs. But the concept is easy enough to understand to understand how to work when reading studies. I feel like there are two basic groups of psych students. BS, those who understand math and, you know. Science. And the BAs, who want to major in something that makes them sound smart, but avoid classes that involve real science.

This is not true at all. Thirty years ago you would be correct, but with the advent of fMRI, CT and other brain-scanning apparatuses in the 80s, psychology has become just as testable, if not more so than physics and chemistry. Assuming you subscribe to the theory that increased blood flow equals increased activity in a given brain area, which makes chemical and biological sense but cannot be directly proven with a living brain.

Psychology has no reason or ability to be fouled by feminism. Perhaps you were right in the early 1900s, but since then psychology has moved from the realm of philosophy into the realm of science and testable hypotheses. If multiple researchers test a given hypothesis and find it to be true, then it appears to be true. That is how any science works. We won't like all of their findings, but that doesn't mean that it is fouled by feminism.

Psychology Today is not a respected scientific publication. It is not peer reviewed. It does not publish findings of researchers. It publishes only the inferences based on these findings. Rarely do you get to see the actual procedure or results in the magazine.

I don't think what teachers did when we were in elementary school, middle school, or high school was intentionally malicious or done with a long-term feminization goal. I think it contributes to the self-fulfilling prophecy of boys becoming what they're told they are and needs to be stopped, but that doesn't mean there's any intent other than getting a class to behave.

The problem with the BC thing is that it is required to be covered AT NO CHARGE. Why? Why not diabetic testing supplies and insulin? Why not cancer screenings? It's as if they picked a controversial issue so they could paint it as a women's rights issue to make the other side look bad. The Republicans are right as this issue, but instead of sticking to the topic, they're just trying to appease the religious right.

We had a discussion on this topic last week in psychology of gender. My perspective: Disney's writers are drawing on personal experiences to giver personality to their characters. Imagine twenty five to thirty years before each of these movies was made (when the writers would have been children). What was the role of women then? What are the roles of females in their newer movies?
