I don't think you should seek friends, do activities you enjoy and the consequence of that will be meeting new people you can connect with. Try finding things that you may enjoy that involve group work. If you don't know what you enjoy then it is high time you try everything that is out there until something gives you that natural spark you get when things are flowing nicely.

Then reading might not be the issue, not good with words? Try talking slower and pausing when you need to. Formulate your sentences before saying them.

If you don't read literature often, then start with easier books. Anything on this list that could suit you. I began reading books two months ago and I can tell you that it has helped me not only with spoken English, but also with general culture. It's actually even great to talk to a girl about a handful of books she hadn't read because then she starts feeling the depth you have.

I wouldn't consider a specific place... there are opportunities everywhere if you are willing to try things and keep your eyes open. Just last week I spotted a girl with a huge smile giving out pamphlets in front of my campus. It was a no-brainer to go and see what she was all about. I always think in terms of capitalizing my opportunities. You win some you lose some.

I also find texting awkward. Thankfully, if you meet her a few times the resistance dissapears and casual texting becomes normal. I don't like texting by any means, but it's part of the mobile phone revolution and if you don't try at least a little bit you will be part of the people who can't adapt to change. See it as an ally.
