Dont start small talk with the intention of picking them up. A simple "How has your day been?" can go a long way. Once you get her talking, keep the conversation relevant to what she said (your thoughts don't matter ATM).

I think the first one has more subtle implications, I'm definitely adding it to my "must-use" directory. I feel like if you used the second one, she'd come back with something like "Waiting in my bed for me..." And then I'd pretty much be completely destroyed.
