No, actually, affirmative action creates a level playing field for oppressed minorities by recognizing the oppression and giving the oppresed people an advantage over whites and males. As a lifeguard/swimming instructor who works with almost only women, I can defiantly vouch for this. We work mostly on our own, only really working together in the event of an accident, yet the women I work with have factions set out amongst themselves. These factions seem to serve no purpose but the women stick to them rigidly when at work.

As a Canadian, I feel like this hits us even harder than in the US because our doctors here have no incentive to do better work. They have to do the minimum requirements for each patient, but other than that they just want to see as many people as they can for the government paycheck.

This same situation is happening at the store I work at. It's been going pretty much exactly as your experience went, except that the rest of the staff are all good friends with the customer. Thankfully the managers all realize that the cashier is being paranoid though, and they refuse to accommodate her (which would just be banning the customer from the store).
