Your response has nothing to do with the issue of patriarchy contributing to the issue of men's issues being downplayed. Female sexual liberation and men's issues being downplayed are 2 separate topics and while they may be intersectional, in this particular snapshot of the conversation, it is not. Frankly, it's also hard to take this opinion seriously when it is so ineloquently expressed. Feeling sorry for the women/woman who end up with you as a partner because they simply will just be ignoran…

This is getting into slightly different topic territory but I also think it's important to be strategic as an artist. It's not enough to just create art and hope to pay your bills, etc. I was part of an arts program for a year and their motto was "do the work" because that's what it takes to be successful. We have to incredibly calculated with how we approach our work. Most of the artists I know have put in time working full time to build a financial base for themselves so that they were able to…

Imo no, not a loser. For context, I'm actually an artist myself. Here is the thing though - I also work full time contracts in the tech industry because while I love art, the reality is, is that to attain my goals of financial autonomy - it was the fastest and most reliable way to do so. Do I always want to work full time in tech? No. Did it enable me to build a base of stability so that I can pursue my art with less uncertainty and not live in debt and paycheck to paycheck? Yes. There is a huge…

34 almost 35 childless and never married female here. I've dated a lot and had a string of terrible LTRs - one with a guy 14 years my senior and for lack of a better word....a loser (debt riddled, dead end job, no ambition, could not get a woman his own age and cheated on me with someone even younger then me) one with a truly terrible human (as in he should be in jail) and one that was toxic for both of us, even though we deeply loved one another. It took me so much time to understand myself bet…

When I was 19 I dated a guy who was 14 years older than me. We were together for 3 years and then he cheated on me with someone even younger than me (caught him in the act - as in I was at the same party where it happened). My pov - if you're going to cheat at least try to hide it (I'm actually ENM now so this is a non issue and I choose partners better now). Obviously I'll have a bias that coloured by my experiences, but I do have enough critical thinking skills to understand not all older men …

As any individual gets older, they've hopefully also developed a sense of self awareness with it. With self awareness often comes higher standards in all sense of applications. You hold yourself to a higher standard, your friends, your family, your romantic relations. I'm a better version of myself in my 30s who is more patient, thoughtful, etc and I have financial autonomy and I've developed a greater sense of health boundaries and how to communicate effectively. I spent my 20s dating men older…

Haha well I think people who actively think about topics like this don't think fetishization is cool. But a lot of people still do it and don't think much about it. And yes - as an Asian I can definitely confirm the challenge of dating. I've legitimately been told by non Asian men I've dated that "I'm not really that Asian", as if they would be the experts in what makes an Asian an Asian.

I don't think it's ever as simple as that. There could be many reasons why someone chooses to date within their own culture. It could be racially motivated, it could not be. I know a lot of people who date within their own culture not because they have racist attitudes to others outside of their culture, but they simply prefer the simplicity of dating someone who understands their cultural nuances better.

I'm not sure I consider preference for one race over another as immoral or racist, but certainly something that may be cause for unpacking as there may be unconscious (or sometimes very conscious) biases there. Context is key. Examples of neutral to questionable scenarios: Neutral - being attracted to a particular ethnicity because the physical traits typically displayed by that ethnicity are what you find attractive. Ie. Dark hair, olive skin tone, etc Questionable - being attracted to a partic…

It's not about women downplaying men's experience. That's society as a whole and it does suck. That's the problem with patriarchy. Be frustrated at patriarchy, not women.

How old are you? I feel like this is behaviour for people who are younger. By the time you're in your 30s, you have a much clearer sense of who you are, what you're looking for and the self awareness to not play games and go for/communicate what you want and have way healthier boundaries as well. My dating life in my 20s and into early 30s was way more dramatic until I started to do the work on myself and become a better version of myself. Dating can still be hard sometimes, but I'm openly commu…
