I don't think you've made a single comment that wasn't a partial or total non sequitur.

Philosophy training is about learning to comprehend arguments simple and complex, semantically and structurally. It gives you the means of knowing that an argument is bad, and why an argument is bad. And my sex life is none of your concern, weirdo.

To believe that all ideas are somehow both justifiable and defensible shows both a lack of social experience and a fear of being wrong. "All ideas"? Who the hell said that? I certainly didn't. You're just saying that you're right, because you said so. I didn't say that either. You're just seeing whatever you want to see, aren't you? You know, it's just polite to try to understand what your conversation partner has actually said before responding. It would certainly save us a lot of time.

someone who thinks they're right, 100% of the time. Who says I think that? I think logic and facts make people right or wrong. You think the fact that a string of words comes out of your mouth makes you right. For instance: It must hurt to hear that your glorious PETA actually kills more animals than they save, huh? I haven't said a word about PETA despite your provocations. But it's "my glorious PETA," is it? Your willingness to believe whatever you damn well please is impressive. That PETA sid…

You really can't shake this "I know you are but what am I?" thing, can you? You call it arrogant to reason, and I call it arrogant to reject reason. I'm happy to hang my hat on that difference.

Oh really? I'm wrong that these jokers don't know enough about millions of individuals to tar them with inane characterizations of their states of minds? I think the hive-mind internet posse buzzing around this thread has warped your perspective.

Again, you astound with such stupidity. Justifiability and defensibility are standards that two people who disagree can both meet. I think at this point you should just go audit a Phil 101 class at your local community college.

Playing amateur psychologist? Nope—I'm simply observing. I am literally staring at a thread in which an individual constantly calls someone else "arrogant" while exhibiting legitimate, gross arrogance at every turn. That doesn't require a professional degree to see.

Yours might be the most severe case of projection I've ever come across on the internet, and that's saying something. Somehow, remarkably, you still haven't addressed any of the substantive points made on this thread. I know—you think I'm arrogant and also, somehow, both a dick and a pussy.

That's your argument? I'm not omniscient, therefor I should not post? Well neither are you. So by your own logic: stop posting. God you're stupid. My argument isn't about "omniscience;" it isn't even about certainty over any single point. It's about saying justifiable things and offering defensible arguments—standards you are clearly totally incapable of meeting. Because it's true. SJW's don't care about others, they only care about themselves and their looks. All the outrage and all the angry p…

I'm sorry, is that your incredibly unjustified and roundabout way of admitting that you have, in fact, been completely off-base at every turn of this thread? Oh, and you know what's arrogant? Not being able to acknowledge it when you're just plain wrong. Also, it's pretty damn arrogant to believe in some simplistic idea about why presumably millions of people you obviously know nothing about ("SJWs") do what they do.
/r/MensRights10/02/14 12:55 AM
-15

Fine, would you be happier if he said "most SJWs"? No, I wouldn't be fine with that minor hedge, for virtually the same obvious reason. Stop arguing over semantics, its stupid and contributes little to nothing in a discussion. It's funny how you conflate "arguing over semantics" with arguing about a fact of the matter. And what exactly do you think your comment contributed to the discussion? Your words so far have contained absolutely nothing of benefit. Plenty of harm, though: they make the res…

Just like every single SJW. The only thing they care about when talking about rape, is how they'll be viewed in their circle of SJW's. They don't actually care about the victim. The victim exists to make them look good when they claim to care. You have no idea what drives "every single SJW"—first and foremost because there is no one thing that does. I seriously wonder how you can post that before something in your brain tells you that the whole thought is inane and indefensible.

Companies do illegal things all the time as long as it benefits them and they think think there's little chance of being prosecuted. But I just don't see the incentive, let alone an actual tendency, for a company's managers to pay less to women qua women. For one thing, they'd be asking for a terrible morale problem, since employees talk to each other, which would cost the company dearly. For another, the sexism that does exist doesn't necessarily produce harmful outcomes for women; it often ben…

I'm sure MRAs will be there to remind her that all social ills can be traced by to fatherless children. What a bizarre presumption. Advocating letting boys be boys has nothing to do with the genders of the parents or the presence of a father, and that still wouldn't be a prescription for "all social ills." Just bizarre.

The first thing to do when genuinely trying to understand someone else's words is to read the words themselves and not to introduce your own assumptions about what they mean. As I said in another comment, In fact, I said she has done something that calls into deep question her abilities as a thinker more generally, and I also posed the question as to why the MRM gets into bed with quacked-out voices. She's actually done a lot of things that invite deep skepticism about her mental competence. Som…

It would be a fallacy if I said her argument relevant to MRM is wrong because her reasoning in other areas is crap. In fact, I said she has done something that calls into deep question her abilities as a thinker more generally, and I also posed the question as to why the MRM gets into bed with quacked-out voices: I understand the extreme right's flirtations with the MRM, but it's the flirtation back that I don't get. My point is that she's crazy. She can call herself a Democrat all she likes. Doesn't change the fact that her stated positions align much more closely with the right. It's not a weakness of my position that she's addled; it's the whole point. Again, I'm not saying she's a mole. I'm saying she's cuckoo.

"Feminist," as any MRMer should know, isn't very specific. Paglia calls herself a "dissident feminist," so whatever clean disassociations you think can be made between that which is right-wing and that which is feminist would be unreliable even if they were real (which they aren't). Regarding where she actually falls on the spectrum, it seems foolish to attempt to make sense of crazy. But I can point out the crazy. From Wikipedia: Paglia characterizes herself as a Clinton Democrat and libertaria…

I'm not dismissing every specific thing she has to say. I'm pointing out that she's inclined to foolishness. Doesn't mean she doesn't get some things right. Edit: Actually, "inclined to foolishness" is too weak of a characterization, because she is inclined not only to disbelieve something that's plainly true—empirically demonstrated up the wazoo—but to cast those who do believe in said thing as mental incompetents themselves. She exhibits a special, aggressive form of detachment from reality.
/r/MensRights29/12/13 11:38 PM

Paglia characterizes a belief in global warming as "religious dogma." It's a quick way to reveal oneself as an incurious mental incompetent. I understand the extreme right's flirtations with the MRM, but it's the flirtation back that I don't get.

If you get offended, you're the weak one I'm sorry, but that's so ridiculous. That's a middle school, who-can-care-the-least standard of character and moral assessment and it's really, really stupid. Edit: added 2 words.

The solution isn't to toss out considerations of racism and sexism. The solution is to not be racist and not be sexist, and to call it out when it occurs, in whatever direction.

Well, the female/male percentage would be more interesting if percentage of female/male primary caregivers was taken into account. Granted, this does make the point that neither sex is inherently protective/non-abusive.

Where "feminism" ignores facts, or denies logic, it's wrong. When its ideals make arbitrary exceptions for one class over another, it's wrong. This was the disease it fought against in the first place, after all. So by upholding that, you're more of a "feminist" than those supposed gender loyalists. I used to be a card-carrying feminist because I had been fed quite a few falsehoods about where things really stand. Turns out the stats tell a very different story than the feminist narrative. On a …

I don't speak for the subreddit, but my experience is that the majority thrust here is towards egalitarianism. You might notice, for example, that OP doesn't seek to legitimize men degrading women. S/he simply seeks to point out that it goes the other way too. I also don't believe all feelings of degradation are created equal. "Heightism" is a prejudice, plain and simple. Looking at a woman in a normal way and her feeling degraded by that—sounds crazy, I know, but it happens—is not on the same l…

I have seen so much of it. My older brother is on the shorter side, and so maybe I'm more acutely aware of it. I've heard countless women say things like "I can't date a guy who's shorter than me," or, on the other hand, "I only date tall men." Of course, it goes beyond dating and romance issues, as these tweets show.

It's even worse—the determination of nurturing-ness is based on surveys of father and mother. Sorry, but humans generally haven't shown much of a knack for accurate self-reporting.
/r/MensRights11/09/13 02:08 AM

I agree that this "study," like so many small-sampled, self-reporting-based, artificially constrained pieces of pop-science tripe, is offensive on many levels—to reason, to morality, to science... ...just as the word "dehumanize," when used in this way, is offensive to reason and morality (at least). There's nothing inherently superior about humanity. "Inhuman" is not a pejorative. [Edited for clarity.]

It's not immediately clear what your first sentence is responding to. Are you trying to say that bias "absolutely is" a relative term despite it's clear dictionary definition? Your comment doesn't really dispute that there's a fact of the matter about bias anyway; it just states your belief that people have a hard time determining what it is. To which I merely shrug.
/r/MensRights05/08/13 10:50 PM

Oh do you now? That's an interesting bias to have against an individual who's given you no cause to believe as much. **Edited for precision.
/r/MensRights30/07/13 03:59 PM

Bias is not a relative term. My views about whether or not bias is present have nothing to do with whether or not bias is actually present. The fact of the matter is the fact of the matter.

I'm not sure I'm grasping your point. But hey, I'll make a third point regarding wtf's comment—there are degrees of trustworthiness. John Stossel is significantly more biased than most. He's so biased that he's proud of it.
/r/MensRights30/07/13 03:31 AM

That's a rather biased statement itself, don't you think? Edit/addition: Also, believing someone to be capable of reporting a given story without bias is different than believing someone to be capable of reporting every story they ever report without bias.

In my experience, most men do not use what I would call logic (in the formal sense—a.k.a. following the rules of formal logic—and not the colloquial sense—a.k.a. any semblance of stepwise reasoning). And not all women fail to use logic. I've encountered some. Part of this is because logic is hard, and most people, men and women, don't like doing things that are hard. Being good at logic requires practice and work. Maybe if I have time to post the rest of the thread here, I will. You'll see that …
